Dougs has been a rock in defence not only today, but all year for the Saints, what did we get for him?
Can you really get a defender at 200cm with that turn of foot and ball use ability?
They don’t grow on trees..

He's been good for St Kilda this year but is lazy when not involved in the play. He would create a big hole in Monty's defensive play. Not surprised Monty didn't want him in defence.

Everyone who thinks they can trade better than Davies and Cripps thinks they could have done a better deal than what we received for Howard and Ryder but at the end of trading we did alright overall.

At worst we picked up Dylan Williams as the extra pick from the trade.

We got Mitch Georgiades lol. Nobody will be regretting this in a few years time.
Dylan Williams.

Georgiades was for trading our 2020 First Round pick to Brisbane. Everyone melted that we were giving up a top 5 pick for pick 18. Now at worst case we gave up pick 16 in 2020 for pick 18 in 2019.

Trent McKenzie this year has been as good as Dougal was any year. He's been good for St. Kidla but he still had regular bags kicked on him while he was playing for us, even Eric bloody Hipwood gave him a bath. The potential of Dougal is much better than the reality of Dougal. He could still become one of the premiere KPD's in the competition but looking at how well our defense has gone this year without him here and the hype around Dylan Williams I'd say both clubs would be happy with the trade.

But in this year where we have a real chance at the flag, our only major weakness is lack of height in defence and that could have been filled by Dougal.

If we miss the flag because our undermanned defence can’t contain Brisbane’s tall men then it doesn’t matter how good of a player Georgadis becomes - our window is now

Apart from the fact Hipwood pulled Howard's pants down everytime he played on him. Don't think his footy IQ is that great, a reasonable see ball, punch ball defender with some nice pace at his size. I really don't think he was a significant loss.

Maybe but Hipwood kicked 0 this year against the saints

No we didn't, Georgiades was from the pick we got from Brisbane. Dylan Williams and the 2020 second rounder was from the Dougal pick.

Williams and a 2020 second rounder was a decent return in the end, but I'm sure we could've gotten that same return from trading the pick that got us Bergman. And I'm confident in saying I'd rather have Howard on our list than Bergman.

My main issue is that we put years of training and giving him our standards...which now the saints are reaping our rewards...and we don’t have a 200cm defender, I’m not crying but I think we should’ve kept him.

As much as it seems like it’s our window now, that wasn’t the case after the home and away last season.

I love Ryder but glad we traded him in order to play our youth, Dougal I wasn’t happy, but men smarter and far closer to the equation who get paid to make those decisions made the call. I think it’s fair to feel short changed but I think with our list management team, these decisions would be calculated with a holistic approach.

REH provided a link to Dwayne’s SEN interview with Rendell who gives not only a glowing appraisal of Cripps and co but a couple tit bits regarding the Howard trade.

No doubt mate, but it still doesn’t cover the 200cm + forwards we need to defend.
Look I’m not hating on anyone at all, but I think there was an oversight In this department

That's what I thought and liked your post but its not the case. Looking at the full trades at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_AFL_draft and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_AFL_draft

We started with picks
10 ( pick 9 then first GC concession pick pre Rd 1 makes it pick 10,) and
29 (then 18 more + 2nd additional GC priority pick at start of Rd 2),
(pick 50 ie 29+18+3 free agency compo picks = 50 traded away with Wingard) and
66 as part of 2018 Polec and Pittard trade with NM and
67 as part of 2018 Hombsch trade with GC but GC received from Adelaide and
68 our normal 4th round pick and
71 as part of 2018 Wingard trade with Hawks but hawks received from WB

We traded with St Kilda
Out 10 + Dougal + Paddy + 2020 Port Rd 4 pick
In.. 12 + 18 + 2020 Stk Rd 3 pick (at moment approx pick 50)

Then traded with Brisbane
Out 29 + 71 + 2020 Port Rd 1 pick
In.. 16 + 52 + 55 + 72

Live Draft day Trade
Out 22 + 2020 GWS Rd 4 ( got from crows for Frampton trade)
In.. 23 + 2020 Collingwood Rd 2 pick

Pick 12 from St K becomes Pick 14 after 2 NGA bids matched and get Bergman

Pick 16 from Brisbane becomes Pick 18 after 2 NGA bids matched and get Georgiades

Pick 18 from St K becomes pick 20 and end of day 1 at draft we trade that with Carlton and get picks 22 + 55 ( Pick 22 traded out for 23+ others on draft day to brisbane)

Pick 23 from Brisbane gets us Dylan Williams.

So the StK trade for Ryder and Howard
directly got us Bergman but we could have used pick 10 on him so effective trade was

directly got us Williams
indirectly helped us get pts to bid on Mead ie pick 55 last year
indirectly will help us with pts to bid on Jones and/or Schofield ie StK's 3rd round pick this year

Pick 50 = 273 pts but because of 197 pt discount for picks after 18, that effectively is worth pick 38 if we have to make a matching bid at Pick 38 = 465 pts

With Williams - didn’t we also get Collingwood’s second rounder - so Pick 27 this year if they lose tonight? Draft night swap...

And also a swap with Carlton that gave us points for Mead
