Are we seriously that bad!!

That game was an Absolute discrace but that was close to the best game I've seen Monfries play... He's going to be a star!

Davey showed a bit, but since when does Lloyd (or Lucas from outside 50) miss and where was Johns tonight?

ps. In my opinion Gus already is a star and Lance Whitnall is the fattest captain ever.

Just arrived home, been to a 21st, but I did catch the first 3/4 of the game before sinking some beers.
I was very disappointed with the loss, as I thought we did have the firepower to take Carlton to the cleaners.
But full credit to them, they had a less experienced side that stood up to the challenge and made us look very ********ing ordinary at times.
The Carlton midfield were very superior, winning the ball far too easily, and thats the main issue with our side. We apparently put a lot of effort into getting our skill level up to scratch over the pre season, but I reckon all the hard work got flushed down the ********house tonight. If you can't win the ball out of the middle, then the push in the back rule will really rear its head and hurt you bad(****************, rediculous rule if you ask me).
Its time for the Bombers to really hit back, regroup and aim to get some confidence back before round one.
I hope this loss hurts, because if it doesn't, them we are in for a very long year.
Get some confidence guys, don't be reactive to whats going on, if you see a chance to grab the ball, don't wait for someone else to get it, do it yourself!

Monfries was good wasn't he.

See no reason yet to believe we will make finals. I still say 10th-12th.

To answer the thread title, IMO, no.

Sheeds will work off last night and start to get the right mix of speed, skill and hopefully weed out the poor decision makers.

We'll kick straighter, get some decisions going our way, hopefully move it straighter down the ground and hopefully our confidence will grow.

JJ, McPhee and MJ would make us a little better, definately better than some players who performed last night.

Following on from 2 very poor years, was last night another nail in sheedy`s coffin ? Let`s face it we have "set" ourselves to win The Nab Cup the last two years and failed both times.

I personally couldn't give a ******** about the nab cup. I did find it abit interesting that during the week odonell came out and said we want to win it. If that's what is instore for the rest of the season, my prediction of a 10-13th placed finish looks abit shaky.

I think Jarrad Waite at CHB was a masterstroke - had a good battle with Lucas.

Not sure if a "masterstroke" is the right term, as he had been playing there through the pre season.

Did play very well though, and is a very good player, who would play well in a number of positions.

if mal didn't give away 3 dumb free kicks which resulted in 3 goals and if some of the essendon players kicking for goals was more cleaner it would have been a very different game indeed maybe essendon winning by 25 - 30 points.

Positives:

Davey - Those tackles were awesome. He will be a good player
Lovett - Loved him in the middle, used his paces and skills
Monfries - Much improved, wish he didnt try those banana kicks though.

Negatives:

Skill errors when we muck around with it KICK THE ********ING BALL!!
I dont want to see Peverill in the senior team this year. Too slow, can't kick.
Laycock in the ruck is a problem

Mark McVeigh's 9 pointer didn't help

Is that coz it reminds u of the Hawks game last year?

IMO, After last night's ripper he can kick as many bananas as he likes.

For those teeing of on Bradley

Keplers mistakes. I have watched the game a couple of times now and all i could find where the following.
A dropped mark that we gained possesion anyway.
A chip kick over a 50/50 contest on the wing/hf which Carlton ended up in possession.
Poor kick to Slats on the half volley which Slatts gained possesion of.
Tried to run through Houlihan, holding the ball.
Was caught after recieving a handball .He was already under pressure before recieving the ball and his handball hit Welsh who was also under pressure and lost possession.
Handballed to Jobe who then proceded to run hinself into to trouble and hanball it back to Bradley who got tackled forcing a poor hanball. Not sure if Bradley can be blamed for another player running himself into trouble
Poor long kick along the wing that was marked by Carlton.

Please feel free to point out anymore while i point out that several others made just as many or more;)

geez, some pessimism here. There were some good signs in the game. We played a sh|t first half but there was enough shown for some optimism, I would have thought

Not sure what game you were watching, but it pretty much looked like as it has been for the past 2 seasons. Give the opposition a handy lead, then play catch up for the rest of the game. Individual positive signs are there, but as a team... no improvement whatsoever.

Totally agree with that statement. Very disheartening performance.

You would think that we would come out breathing fire after only winning 3 games last year but that was one of the meekest displays of football I have seen.

No heart, no character and barely any skill.

Monfries our best player has not one, but two banana goals. Has he not learned from last years indescretion against the Hawks. Mcveigh discipline problemss.....

Looks as though it's business as usual this year.

Week 1 NAB Cup guys. You'll have some good wins. And some of the kids are good.

What were your thoughts on Kepler Bradley. He is becoming disappointing for mine. Seems to be a very weak player. Thought he would have showed more by now.

It wouldn't be based on tonight considering I don't even rate the pre-season comp as anything serious.

No, it's just a hunch. I reckon we both have better kids than them.

Ha! Ha! The preseason brings all the whackos out. What happened to wonder boy Gibbs.:)

Laycock and Bradley are no where near where they should be in my opinion. Laycock has more of an excuse then Bradley because of injury..

Bradley is like a midfielder in a kpp's body and it doesn't work.

it's the first game of the pre-season. Don't go slitting your wrists.
