Best available at the pointy end, no ifs or buts. Needs come later. You simply must nail that pick. As an example, Longmire debuted as a 16yo, kicked a club record of 14 in a game against richmond and won a coleman kicking 98 pretty early in his career.......does that mean we dont take Carey if he came up in the next draft? Dont forget in that era, we also had other young key forwards. Peter Mann, Mark Stevens

, Even Hewitt, Mark Hepburn a little earlier, not to mention Corey, Jase Mcartney started out as a forward at collingwood and played forward for us as well, even later on, even Leigh Brown kicked 6 from memory for us as a forward once Wayne departed.

We also had lists of 80 players across 3 teams. It was an Academy. IIRC We had Steve McCann and no one else when the robbery of the century took place. Hardly comparable to todays times with list sizes <40 where there are 14 midfielders running around like Auskick, not to mention having a 22 year old Larkey whose stats are on par with the two best young forwards in the game (despite being 23 months older than them).

I actually think Hollands is the best player available for us, which is why I want to take him. If we are looking for a workhorse forward then they are available in later rounds or better yet, take Baldwin with 30 (who from all reports is better than McDonald and Thilthorpe anyway or at least was until he did his knee)

Must admit had the same chilling thought. Not commenting on Perkins specifically but he backed himself and reached for Jarrad Grant

Reading Balmer's article, he says in the comments we've put work into Perkins but in the article itself links him to Hawthorn and * in terms of being a top ten bolter.

If we can walk out with one of that top two (and add Hollands even though I'm firmly a McDonald Man) and that last three then I'll be over the moon. McDonald and Perkins in particular would be stellar.

Saying that as long as we don't reach with 11 we'll be happy coming out of this draft regardless.

Do you take Balmers opinion seriously? Does he seriously not think any Tassie player will be recruited? Not even thinking a. Team will take a chance on Callow?

He works for Fox now and attends most of these events, he would be talking to recruiters.

I think the main basis of this opinion is his view that only 50-60 players are going to be selected this year.

So there is a chance no Tassie kid gets drafted.

There's clearly going to be a number of good mid prospects at 11 (most of Bruhn/Perkins/Henry/Macrae/Powell/Laurie/Carroll will be available you'd assume).

If Adelaide does take McDonald, can we pass up Hollands? I think there's less chance of Cox and Reid being there at 11 than Perkins tbh.

Our backline is the area I am least concerned about next year - just about the four first names on the sheet will be Tarrant, Corr, McDonald and McKay.
