WARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GEELONG BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the current list management & trading situation at Geelong. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters & don't inflame arguments (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, then don't bother or you will be enjoying a holiday

He really wasn't worth a Future 1st though...our Future 1st was worth Collingwood's Pick 17 easily...could even have tried trading with GWS. Just insane that we would make that much of an effort to trade up when it wasn't the Geelong through and through kid.

Love Wells and trust him most of the time, but this one I just don't understand.

Obviously Wells didn’t rate Ollie as high as BigFooty scribes. Saw him up and close to make that call and said pass... Cheer up buddy

Our strategy of late reminds me of instant gratification.

Last couple of years, traded away early picks for players, then I've thought, right next year we will draft some kids......get cameron, Higgins, smith...oh okay, well next year we will draft some kids.......Geelong trades Rd1 2021 pick for Rd1 2020.

I'm not criticizing, all of this has fulfilled my need for instant gratification over the last few years. Will see what happens.

We never had a chance to pick him as collingwood wouldnt have traded down with us. They were adamant about trading into this draft not out of it.

people thinking Collingwood are fools for trading their first next year should quickly be reminded that they have young daicos coming through who will be a top 5 pick, so they will accumulate some 2nd rounders next year and be fine
Sure will, but were you lurking here and posted to the wrong board by accident? Welcome in any case

Not just a couple of years. We have been doing that since around 2012 when we went after mcintosh, caddy and rivers. Then clark, stanley, danger, smith, selwood, henderson, touhy, dalhaus, crameri, ablett, rohan etc.

Little known Victorian Max Holmes is poised to be one of the shocks of the top 25 after gaining interest from multiple AFL clubs.

Foxfooty.com.au understands Richmond (Pick 17), Melbourne (Pick 18 and 19), St Kilda (Pick 21) and Hawthorn (Pick 24) are among the clubs eyeing-off the dashing midfielder at the pointy end of the draft, despite the Melbourne Grammar product being virtually unseen on the football field.

The St Kilda supporter has played just a handful of AFL games in the last 24 months, with COVID-19 shutdown and a broken arm in 2019 restricting his output.

However, the 189cm running machine has caught the eye with the exponential output in recent times.

Holmes smashed the 20m sprint at the recent Victorian combine, running an elite time of 2.8s, also running a 6:25 on the 2km time trial. He is the son of Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Olympic 400-metre runner Lee Naylor.

DRAFT PROJECTION: Late-Rookie

That's what AFL draft central had him at - hence why barely any of us had heard of him...and we gave up a Future 1st in a stronger draft for him.

Don't care what anyone says, this is not a good move, and I can see a Lang, Thurlow, Smedts, scenario happening here. Other clubs might have been interested, but he's an athlete and a development player - not a footballer. That's why he should have gone later

We still have Cooper and SDK who haven't played yet

No one knows where anyone is going because no one, including recruiters, know anything about 50% of the draftees.

Trading future draft capital is a huge strategic error. Hope I'm wrong on this.
So we should choose players by lotto then? Sack wells Unless he knows how to cheat at lotto.

The guy we picked doesn't scream instant gratification to me. Seems like an attempt to pick the future athlete, just hope he can kick a football.

I wonder if we honestly thought someone else was going to take this kid before our next pick. I'm not one to get upset about selecting x or y player because the truth is the draft is a lottery but trading up to get a player we didn't need to trade up for is always frustrating.
