His pace, his ability to get the ball quickly out of defence. Work with the others in transition. Clean hands. Seems to add a good layer to our backline.

Do you think he is big enough for AFL footy in the backline? He might be limited to half back or the small forward pockets. I guess a few who have gone alright at that height (he's 180cm) like Davis, Harbrow, N. Jetta.

Love in for Chugg on the poll is a bit mystifying... As with all our new recruits I hope he makes it, but right now he’s shown nothing and been in main training about 6-8 times. Clear standout from that group is Keane and Wilson is a sneaky chance as the most “talented”, IMO. It might have been touched on, but I also thought Noble was a rookie?

There you go! I suppose we weighed the salary savings v list spots and thought the value was in list spots.

Edit: on a side note Briskey is also worth discussing.

Not Offically yet as we have said nothing Offical but Sounds like he is Leaving an Impression at Training so IF he can get Thru then most likely we will Rookie Him

Being unofficial doesn’t rule him out of the discussion. For instance should we not discuss Buckley leaving until it’s official? There’s more chance of Briskey being signed than Buckley not, but I know a lot of Internet ink will be wasted on Buckley’s future before it’s made official. Personally he’s odds on especially now that Keane’s gone down and is level pegging with Chugg, Lynch and Ginnivan.

Well he is not on out Rookie List yet

I wasn’t disputing that. Rather that he should be in the discussion. You don’t believe so whereas others might and I’m happy to chat about his potential with them. You’re welcome to jump in once it’s made official, but the thread will likely be long gone by then which is why it’s worth discussing now, IMO.

Well going by the Training Reports he does sound like a Real Good Prospect and is making a Impact which what you want to Read

Noble would still be a rookie as far as I know. We elevated Madgen and Mihocek, but should have Chugg, Ginnivan, Keane and Noble, along with the two Cat. B Rookies in Tohill and Wilson.

I think the OP left Noble out of the discussion simply because he has already played a fair amount of senior games.

I think it's more about meeting AFL list requirements. There's a minimum of 36 on the main list. If Noble was still on the rookie list, we'd only have 35 on the main list (unless I've stuffed up the maths or rules). Obviously someone else could have been promoted or Chugg or Ginnivan could have been given a two year contract by being taken in the main draft. But it would have been the same net list result in terms of spots and salary savings.

Edit: Just read Daicos35s post. I'd never question him about such matters. Noble may not have been promoted, but someone needs to be (once again unless I've got the maths or rules wrong - unlike Daicos35, I'd doubt me on such matters. See I even got his name backwards)

Yes I know that. Hence the bolded part of my post.

Bit of a strange post, that one!!

We should have the necessary (minimum) 36 on the primary list now (with Noble still on the rookie list). We did promote Madgen and Mihocek (both of whom had spent 3 years on the R/L) as we were obliged to.

There should currently be 36 primary list players, 4 Cat. A Rookies and 2 Cat. B Rookies, with 2 (Cat. A) Rookie List spots able to be filled.

Yeah, you're right. The Collingwood website no longer seperates them into different categories - I stuffed up the Maths and was counting Lynch as a rookie, which brings it to 36, without Noble.

I find it hard to have an opinion without them getting some games under their belts. As such Keane is the easiest to discuss. I pretty much agree with Quicky that he has the game and attitude and is working in a position that’s easier to adapt to. I am very hopeful he becomes a player.

Wilson has been at the club for a little while and Tohill but they didn’t do much early days and don’t get much of a chance 2020 because of restrictions.

The two new boys , especially Chugg, are so unknown I can’t have any opinion. Even our 2019/20 draftees remain in this group. Especially 2020. No footy for the Vic boys, Poulter only SA under 18 to go on and McCeery an overage with some SANFL form make the group a bit of an unknown. None have a really solid pedigree like say Grundy/BenKen and Broomy had, which was the last time we had a group picked out at a similar time in the draft to this group.

We have more than the normal need for trust in Hine for the coming season. If he nails 2020 it will give him massive longevity and a bit of a legend call to go so hard at the 2020 draft.

I voted Ginnivan because he seemed to have been rated by draft watchers + the others don't fill me up with much hope

Some Pre-2020 had him Possible top 20 Pick

I voted for Chugg. Mostly out of excitement for his training reviews. I do think guys who are obviously putting in are improved chances to make it. While we have depth in the role, if someone like Chugg pushes through it gives us the option to shift others on ball.

Wilson is interesting. I liked what he showed forward at the end of his first season. He attacked the footy. I wwas surprised we trained him wing and are now throwing him back. I wish we'd kept him forward.

Briskey is really interesting. Brisbane has no need for another key position player with their list profile. I think he could have been off the radar for a lot. He has some interesting attributes at his height, athleticism and marking ability.

That's it. My poll was for current rookie listed players who have played no more than a handful of games.

In retrospect I would have broadened it to any current or former rookie listed players.

The guys who started rookie, went onto the senior list and are contributing are where we want these next guys to get to.

Training reviews from BigFooty posters I assume? It might just be a bit early to buy in on that basis, IMO. I don’t know about others, but I’m wary of that sort of commentary with Gault’s 2016 pre-season still burnt into my brain. Having the option of taking an 8/10 def and trying to turn them into an 6-7/10 mid is not a comforting one. Like the calls of Howe forward I eagerly await the days we no longer hear suggestions of Maynard or Crisp further afield. With how we play they’d be wasted, IMO.

I don’t know what to think of the role changes with Wilson. I would like to think the club are looking at him as an alternative to WHE who I think is out of credits, but we won’t know for sure for another 6 weeks until the community game roles around.

Chugg did get talked up here (outside of BigFooty!): Where's your club at? Injuries, time trial king, pre-season star (afl.com.au)

FWIW, I'll never forgive myself for being convinced that Corey Gault really had arrived as a player in that pre-season!! Never again will the "February/March champions" con me!

Chugg was also mentioned in an AFL article:

It really wouldn't have added too many names to the discussion if you had done that, with Cox, Madgen and Mihocek the only other ones who started on our Rookie List (Lynch has been discussed). Thomas did spend time on that list, but doesn't really count, I suppose! Jack Crisp has been a huge success story for us as a player who was once on a Rookie List, but he wasn't on that list with us!
