Good evening Baggers.

I had the chance to pop into training today as I had to head in for work purposes, so I was able to see the squad running around for around 20 mins.

I would have stayed longer but after about the 20 mins mentioned, I had a Blues employee come up and ask who I was and what it was I was doing there, all very politely delivered by the way.
I mentioned why I was there and he asked if I could please wait inside as it was a closed session, I obviously had a smile and asked why as I'm not a spy.

He said that a few days ago they had "a bit of an issue" with people they didn't know hanging around training, I said no problem at all and headed in, watching a little from inside but a lot further away.
So, enough of the boring stuff, here's what I saw from my limited time in attendance, starting with the team related parts first. (Please remember this is off 20 mins viewing, only commenting what I saw today)

  1. I haven't seen that much focus and heat in the full game training sim like I saw today in a long time. They were treating it like a real game by tackling hard, cracking in, and spoiling with purpose, was great to see. Was a loud session as well with the talk, goal celebrations, and whole vibe.
  2. I was surprised how much more hardened we looked, boys growing into their bodies (even Samo looked bigger, even though he was just running laps) now maybe it was because I didn't see them last year but looked stronger for sure.
  3. They were playing with speed, lots of running, fast movement, and running in numbers. It felt like the whole ground was running in waves, not many slackers left on the other side of the ground when the ball was running down a wing.
  4. Play stopped and Teague or Bruce, not sure who as I was down near the other goals, went through them, could hear it reverberate around the whole ground. Was fired up (which matched the sim intensity) and gave someone a serve for losing their man.
Individual.

  1. Weitering is the boss down back, Doc maybe Capitan, but Weiters is the boss. He's one very big man is the bot, and the sim had him and Cas going head to head, he looked a step faster did Weiters, but it was his voice, dictating to others what to do, where to go, and when to do it. Was kicking pin-point lasers over 40 off one step, spoiling and positioning first class. Will take scalps with ease.
  2. Plow, again fast and strong, looks in great shape and was streaming out of defense with ball in hand and had the confidence to hit the target by foot. Looked great.
  3. TDK is our first ruck, played against Pitto, who by no stretch was bad, it's just TDK can jump over people and then looks so light on his feet when it hits the ground, it's almost like he's semi bouncing when running around looking to get into the next play. Really nimble and has certainly put on size, very broad across the shoulders.
  4. Fish was the most impressive for me but only because I couldn't take my eyes off him. Looked so effing quick and agile, maybe with the long hair but he was flying across the ground like he was gliding. Stops on a dime and then the acceleration after the stepping or stopping was a beautiful thing to see, good luck catching him!
  5. Gov, looked really fit, big long leads to the wing and jumping early like Waite used to do. With his hand out in front, so hard to stop. The best thing was that it wasn't once or twice, he was covering the ground.
  6. Walsh, I only really noticed a few times, but it was because he was running down the middle through the square kicking hard and long into 50, great to see.

Other.

  1. Cripps looked big.
  2. Marchbank is training. I didn't see him personally but was chatting with a staffer, the one who asked me to head inside and he told me he was.
  3. Samo running laps but again, look stronger.
  4. Harry on the sideline for the sim but out kicking goals between.
  5. Durdin wasn't training or dressed for the session as when I was leaving he came in wearing plain clothes, said good luck to him and seemed nice enough. Has stronger looking legs than I thought.
  6. Stocker looks trim.
  7. Dow cracked in hard, certainly doesn't hit the contest softly.
Apart from that, I can't really tell you too much more as I watched the ones that took my eyes instead of looking for certain numbers. Oh and somebody got stabbed at the Parkside Cafe.

Anyway, wish I could give more, but alas. Goodnight Baggers.

I wonder how Gibbo is training. Not much talk about the 36 gamer. Lock for best 22 and what he offers is invaluable.

The bloke is putting his hand up for more Mid minutes... Just not sure if he'll get them.

Would love to see him push his game to another level of consistency and kick a few more goals while he's at it...

Was running laps when I was there today.

Great stuff KC... enjoyed reading everything you covered, particularly the match sim standards, quick ball movement, cracking in hard and running in waves...
Fish is a class act, he’s going too light it up big time this year...Cheers 👍

Captains log stardate 47634.44 after a very rough and tumultuous month, we finally received garbled instructions from emperor Gil and were able to exit safely from this godforsaken galaxy.
After receiving our first report from Kreuz Control, a strange calmness has decended on the crew. Thankful for this we press on in hope of other Windows of opportunity.

you mean the kickup the cloaca

Setanta got a bit too excited, “You played for Collingwood? I hate them, I hate them, I HATE THEM!”, as every blow was landed.

Thanks for that - one quick one - what role was Cuningham playing? I know he is a tease but I just can't help but hope that going into his 6th year and with Fogarty, Fisher & Durdin able to fill the small forward tole we release him into the middle and he finally produces (like the bombers game this year).

That's great, thanks. Feel like we've desperately needed something like this here too!

windows1 pressure is on, bar has been set early. This from 20mins, I'm expecting a full page if you get to a full session!

I know you only got to see around 20 mins, but I'll ask anyway.

Great to hear about us running in waves when we had the ball, etc. We looked fantastic when we played like that.
But how did we look when the other side had the ball? Did you see anything new around how we tried to shut that down? Or were we not really trying to stifle it?

Great question - did we look great offensively simply because we were rubbish defensively?

Always a bit hard when we are playing ourselves - are we hoping for highly entertaining, attacking scoreless draw? ;)

so you're an assassin?

The pic above could be very misleading for numerous reasons, but in horse racing terms, Cottrell and O'Brien look like they are off the bit and Setters looks like he's still full of running. And Cottrell and O'Brien are machines, so looks like Setters is building into a machine athlete after, again in horse racing terms, not being a natural 2yo.

Bring on the Cox Plate for Setters.

And all from 1 pic. Isn't imagination grand. Sometimes it can be reality.

You're gonna stirrup conversation with that analysis....

I'm interested to know who the other two players are. Would guess one could be Ed, he's gonna be in that leading group somewhere.

Huge guess but I think Ed (solid biceps) is behind Setters and Walsh (hairstyle) is behind LOB.

s**t, I feel like a nerdy trainspotter.

Yeah Ed and Walsh usually round out the Top Group.

sh*t, I feel like a nerdy trainspotter.
Yeah, that'd be my guesses too. Do we know if there's anyone else along with Setters who's joined the #1 group? I think Jack has done a bit before, then there's Charlie and Marchbank who probably would be there if fully fit.

Observation from afar right now - a little concerned that the majority of our boys look leaner but also with less muscle tone. I hope we don't go too much down the "Cripps 2020 mindset' and lose too much body strength.

Happy for most of our boys to chase fitness over size.

Cripps needs to be big. Weiters needs to be big. Harry needs to be big. TDK needs size.

Everyone else needs to be able to run all day.

The drop to 75 interchanges does favour more endurance, although I do think some of our 3rd-5th year guys are lacking in the power/size department.

Fisher looks great.

I see Fogarty and Fisher being similar types. They are both small and quick and can play forward and midfield. Fogarty is probably a little harder at it perhaps but both are young developing players so where they take their games this season who knows. I think with the tools they both have, if they play with good physicality and intensity and their bodies hold up they could both fit into the team and both play some midfield and forward, it's just a matter of taking their games further. Betts will be around and Durdin is another one of these types to add to the list.
The exciting thing for me is the number of speedy medium smalls we now have that can push up and be used as outlets for our big bodied mids.

Inner ring in the middle of Cripps, Setters and Ed with the next tier out of Williams, Walsh and Martin and then the mosquito fleet around them to pressure and force the ball forward of Gibbons, Fisher, Fogarty, Betts, Murphy etc with Samo, Doc, Willo and Saad pushing from the other direction it gives us a good mix of power and speed to match it with other sides, especially come Rd1 against Richmond who love to push extra numbers through the middle to overwhelm the opposition, no more as we now have the cattle to fight back.

Look at Cotts shoulders. To me, he looks nice and relaxed and running within himself. LOB looks like he’s really pushing but yeah, Setters looks strong.

Kreuz Control Nice to read a first-up report and in particular, your observation that training was high intensity and Teague was emphasizing accountability in each way running.

The only thing I got out of the photographs was the ridiculousness of players wearing caps when they run - a lot of body heat generated escapes via the head - the last thing players should be doing is trying to keep the heat in their heads and cooking their brains ( literally) under hard load conditions.

You can't talk. I've never seen you without a black fedora on.....

:p
