Mature age recruits seem to slot in better as the development had been done elsewhere

None of them are stars and half the names listed are not likely to make it. We seem to have particular difficulty developing high pick talent into stars

Your point wasn’t about stars it was about development and every single player on that list has developed and though I do agree about developing top end talent maybe it’s a recruiting problem for that talent because we seem to absolutely dominate 2nd round onwards

Some of them could still develop into stars. Henry has been great this year.

Name the half that aren't likely to make it.

Simpson was playing very well last year but has been held back this year by injury. Would be hard to make a call on him based on that.

Many players were better at junior level, when they were playing against juniors. Some never make the step up to AFL level.

I agree that Clark has lost some confidence. Is development the problem? We have no way of knowing.

Recruiting ready-made players from other clubs clearly limits the ability of young players to get regular AFL games.

Depends what you define as 'depth'. O'Connor is clear best 22. Miers has been until now but he needs to get back to his best.

Being held out of a side by very good players in a top 2 team can still keep a players worth reasonably high. Coming in and not being able to perform doesn’t help. I think Clark is probably worth an early 2nd round pick. Maybe something like this could be worked out:
Freo Get Clark and Cats 3rd round pick
Cats get Meek and Freo 2nd round pick
We could probably use a couple of 2nd round picks to move back into the first round anyway.

No reflection on the players themselves but you'd do well to find any opposition supporters that rate them. They weren't high draft picks so they aren't players that are rated by opposition supporters.

Fair enough, I don’t rate him that highly and I don’t see how Freo would give up pick 10-12 for a player who was picked later than that and hasn’t proved anything at AFL level.

Wont happen unless we give them a mid second round pick which I would do if he wants to move on.
He is worth a pick in the 20s

Hard to judge but I think Close is better than just a forward pocket. When he gets a shot on ball we will know more.

Henry has come along so far. His first year on the list as a Rookie he was well short of it... yet he was not rushed in.

Hard to judge but I think Close is better than just a forward pocket. When he gets a shot on ball we will know more.

This has been something i was going to ask. Do people see close as having a potential mid-field role?

His clean hands, field vision and ability to create make me think he could potentially. Does need to put on some muscle though. Still a bit scrawny. Not that it effects him much though. He’s pretty tough in the contest and tackles well.

He will likely win their B&F. It would be good loot if we good steal him for that. Not convinced it’s in play.
