Darcy was dominant at VFL level ... and looked to be at an AFL level when they played.
I don't mind the idea of getting Lang back in the AFL side. It's a tough caper early in player's careers and if he's grown as a player and is now ready to take the next step, you'd think it would be clear to people inside the club if that's the case and could be a really smart move.

Swap Clark for Meek. Meek is a couple of months older than Darcy and likely stuck behind him for years. He's also a Victorian so coming home not dragging him away from home. If Freo want Clark then they can give us a player with time in the system and not a lottery ticket. Means Meek would want to move but I'd be going down that path rather than arguing over pick 25 or 27 when they have a four year deal on the table.

Had Meek as fantasy back up ruckman so watched him a bit really, really average player at this stage, Stanley a lot better.

In what sense? From other trying to get a game in the defence? Sort of an exclusive and excluding culture.?
Earlier in the year Atkins was saying how 'like working with the misfits' but Stewart corrected him a few times including him with the group. Was pretty impressed with that- I'm sure Stewart would be a great captain if given the opportunity after Joel retires.

This is 2016-2020 drafts

On viewing this 4 year old window it could be dominated by players who have been on the list less than two years and haven’t had the chance to be delisted yet. A window of starting from three to six seasons ago on the list my be a better window as we’d see some meaningful variation between the teams

When accounting for his time on ground, Clark was much better than other players in our team this year. His tackling numbers are good for a so called soft player

Look at Petracca in his early years and the talk of moving him on. Absolutely poor to move on a 20 year old high draft pick with talent for a nothing pick which will likely push out into the 30s.

Hold him to his contract and play him imo

The Clark experience for example but it was also a source of tension between coaches. Eg. Positional inflexibility with the likes of Blicavs and gameplan inflexibility not being able to mix up the back six.

To be honest, if the rumours are true that Scarlett said he refused to ever play Clark in ‘his’ backline, I don’t blame Clark for wanting out. That’s a disgraceful way to treat a talented young player IMO and reflects very poorly on Scarlett’s people management skills (note: if true, as we only have media scuttlebutt right now).

Clubs like Richmond and now Melbourne talk about creating loving, supportive environments where even players outside the best 22 feel valued and have a clear understanding of what they need to do to get into the team. If we have treated Clark the way has been reported, it’s couldn’t be any further from the way the recent flag winners operate.

It's interesting you bring the bolded up, as my partner always points out something funny during our finals games - and that's that the players never lock arms and always stand with their arms clasped behind their backs like they're at assembly.

While I didn't notice it at first, it's become much more apparent when every other team seems to lock arms, and in turn have more of a 'mateship' culture going on - see Dogs and Demons in the GF, and Richmond during their peak.

Again, very innocuous, but really does speak to the sort of environment that we've had - where some seniors players are preferenced despite form (Dahl, Atkins, Kolo, Hendo, Atkins, Sav etc.) and others are excluded (Clark, Kreuger, Narkle, Evans, Fort, Constable etc.)

Hopefully Hocking returning, along with Kel and resetting all our coaching staff and bringing in new people, will help bring everyone back together - because it has gotten a bit too insular (and turned into quite frankly a bit of a shitty environment when talking about Scarlett and his dealings as an example) in recent years - as evidenced by the whole Clark saga. Probably why Scott needs to go too - as he's endorsed this whole process/culture for far too long.

Lang looked good, calm and with time, but I did notice a few times that when it wasn’t a crucial ball to win, say mid field on the boundary line, he eased up. Perhaps sensible but he couldn’t do that at AFL level.

We did the same thing between 2007 - 2011, never locking arms. I always thought that was a good thing- no need to make some stupid symbolic gesture of unity. Indeed, during that period whenever I saw a team lock arms and put on a macho stare at us, I just thought they looked silly and intimidated.

It’s actually five drafts 2016-2020. That might be right about meaningful variation but most of the criticism levelled at Geelong has been in these recent years where this data clearly shows the concern isn’t valid.

Suns would be nuts to do that deal
Why. There is a clear best 4 this year. Pick 3 (#5) misses that. Go through history and see if you’d trade the player taken at 8 and 10 for the player taken at 5 and 21.

I’d rather be the Suns any day of the week. More margin for error. If it was the 2018 draft with a big 6 then fair enough but that isn’t the case this year and most years for that matter.

Do you have a link? Would love to see this!

Dockers are looking at trading 6, 8 and 27 to Suns for 3, 19 and 22. Then offering Cats 22 for Clark.

Also a chance to trade 6 and 8 to Adelaide for 4, 23 and something else and then offering 23 for Clark.

Suns would be nuts to do that from a value perspective its unders and besides it doesnt help them turn 3 picks into 2 which they need due to lack of list spots. Eg substitute 27 for freos future 2nd and maybe youre getting closer.

If they get those picks id want 19 not 22 as 19 will be a really valuable pick that teams will come for on the night with live trading..even if we have to send a later pick back with clark.

Still i think freos smartest play is to trade 27 and later points (they dont have these picks but they can get them) to the dogs for 17 and give us 17. I dont see how downgrading a top 10 pick is good for them.

Cant see the adelaide deal happening as 23 is needed for dawson.

For me it's kind of ironic, in that when Lang first came to the club I thought he was a Dahlhaus type of mid.
What was he missing before with us, and then with Carlton? Does he have the skills or speed now for the midfield? Can he be a direct replacement for Dahlhaus's current role?

Joel needs to hand over the captaincy if he is to go on.

If he doesn't and wants a record instead then he is not looking out for the team or the club.

Well colour me surprised that so many people think that Clark is worth higher than 27.

On the flipside, imagine how this forum would discuss giving up a higher pick than 30 for a player from another team who was continually overlooked for senior promotion.
You forgot that he’s contracted and that he has been offered a 4 year deal…pick 27 blows out to pick 31

I don’t blame the club for asking for a better pick
