Clark is a bust. Would have been nice to have Duursma. But these things are always easier in hindsight. Pretty happy with the other picks. Very happy with Holmes, SDK, Evans and Neale.

I've always felt that if players aren't best 22 elsewhere, then it's rare they become that for their second home.

Carlton an amazing reminder that picking players 23 - 26 from other clubs doesn't really work (ploughman, wiley, jaksch, picket, garlett, lobbe, kerridge, lang, smedts, fogarty, palmer, gorringe, lamb, sumner etc etc etc).

I think it can work for KPD or specific role players - mccarthy to brisbane. keays to adelaide. DFA's like hamling, membrey, lyons, henderson.
I don't think there would be any harm at all in offering rookie contracts or using a pick 52 to have a go at 1 or 2 of these types to fill needs and to bolster that depleted age bracket.

Yep another bloke who will get exposed in finals because he, like half our side, have not developed together for years on end knowing every individuals strength's and weaknesses.
By the time he is settled in, our team is cooked and sitting mid table. Yet another spot on the list which could have been given to a kid with 10 years of development ahead of them.

What about Jeremy Finlayson, I think available for a future 3rd pick. We could offer 30, 2022r2 for Finlayson and pick 13. If 13 is too high, we could get 21 instead if GWS swap 13 for 21,24 with hawthorn.

There are experienced defenders who usually assist where there are potential one on ones or pack situations. Henry and Stewart lead the way there.

This would allow SDK some leeway in learning to position himself ... not from a strongest man type of situation - but to be able to sit off a little and utilise his reach/athleticism to nullify or win a contest.

That some people don't get this basic premise (that not all back men need to be Mr Universe to play KPD) boggles the mind.

I’m sorry you misinterpreted it as me wanting Mr Universe in our backline. I can tell you, Talia who I think would be a fantastic fit, is by no means Mr Universe. He is however, an experienced, AA player. SDK has played one game at AFL level… one game! Even if he was Mr. Universe (again who you somehow interpreted I wanted through wanting Talia), that one game of experience is not enough to throw him in as our number one FB/CHB. Come finals, there is no leeway in learning the role. Against some of the best mature key forwards or even Naughton, he’s going to get monstered. I don’t care how much experience you have around him, and how much you claim defences aren’t one-on-one, individuals get exposed on the big stage… look at Henderson who had a bit of experience himself.

I would love to see SDK blooded and play 6-8 games and if he’s up to the level, hold Talia out of the side. But if he has rough patches, rather than him losing confidence and our side and squad depth being exposed, he can play reserves and master his craft there. Competition is healthy and so is squad depth to cover inevitable injuries.

I found it interesting listening to that interview and we’ve been in dialogue with the pies. But the pies and dogs haven’t spoken at all about Lipinski.

I think the deal for us will involve one of our 2nds for there future 2nd

I honestly thought we should have gone out and replaced Taylor, the problem is even more profound now we have Henderson retiring, needs to be addressed if we expect to compete with the best sides.

It was insane that we delisted Henderson with Taylor on his last legs, then scrambled to rookie Henderson only after Abbott left to the Saints. I'd love to know what that was all about.

We've seen that approach taken in 2016 when we faced a similar hole in the list and I'm not convinced it's the best way to go. Pretty soon you can add those players to the list of over 30s you have to nurse through the season.

And if you do this you have great youth and great veterans but no middle tier core to support them. You need to build all areas of the list.

I agree..talia is an option for that..or hartley maybe another? If we elevate close and atkins and delist oscar we will have 4 rookie slots so id be fairly happy to use 2 of them for a mature key defender and a mature backup ruck.

Gws wont downgrade 13 as fahey will get a bid somewhere around 30. You could do these type of pick swaps with other clubs in the 10-20, range though.

Correct, the two Kings, Hipwood, Brown and Dixon are all 200cm plus. You play a 192cm Henry on them and you are going to get slaughtered regardless of defensive structure.

Yep...people are not going to realise how much we miss hendo until next year when hes gone. Weve basically had 3 experienced big bodied kpds every year since 2007 and next year will be the first year we dont (until we trade someone in).

No we don't. We don't need anymore injured, washed up spuds that will just take games from a youngster. Rookie list a low to mid 20's tall defender if they want back up coverage.

Whether its mid 20s or 29 with talia we definitely need an experienced kpd.. blitz henry kolo and a green sdk is not enough. Cant believe people think it is.

Nah I didn't misinterpret - that was a broad sweeping statement to all and sundry - so apologies for that!

Come finals there are literally dozens of players per year that are new and inexperienced. Be they a little older and just never played before or ones that actually make it in their rookie season. Do you know what I want come finals? Not Menegola/Rohan or Blicavs ... I can tell you now that SDK even with as a freshly never played final before rookie ... he would do better than any of those three by virtue of just being on the ground.

Like I said elsewhere - I am not averse to Talia playing - he would be a good get ... but if not then I am all for SDK taking the role on.
