Depends how the tweet is interpreted.

It's just an all round weird exchange.

Cleary trying to make it sound like Sydney got a sweet return on a spud player, Kane taking it a step further and trying to make it seem like we gave a ridiculous contract to a spud player.

Sydney were never delisting Hewett, they simply elected not to offer him a contract to force him to exercise his free agency rights, and only then because they knew they couldn't afford to pay him what he's worth.

Them getting a pick in the late 30s back is hardly a "great bonus". It's probably less than they'd have got if they'd traded him as a non-free agent.

Anyone else think it looks a bit like Hewett wears a wig? He kinda looks like a lego person that could just click on and off different hairstyles... Novak Djokavic style.

#Bluemour. Hewett is a lego person.

In my opinion, I can't see him going back..

Stripping a list, rebuilding and the hard decisions that come with it are SOS's strength.. He is focused and uncompromising.
Consultative leadership, people management and delegation etc maybe not so much..
I reckon there are reasons he is plying his trade with shitty shows like Trade Radio and not back in Clubland in some capacity.

Doesn’t take away from his legacy at the Blues in my opinion, true Carlton legend and deserves to be remembered and respected as one, but as with everyone involved in the game at the highest level, he has had his day.

His legacy as a Carlton player is without question.

His legacy as a list manager is questionable. Some hits and misses in drafting and trading.

I think he looks like Plowman - if they wear similar numbers and play near each other I might have issues telling them apart.

Every Hewett action does not directly lead to an opposition goal - that’s how you can tell them apart.

Hewett has played pretty much every game for Sydney since his debut in 2016. The only exception being last year due to injury. Point is he's clearly been best 22 for them over the last 6 years.

We've heard talk of Sydney still being under salary cap pressure...so given their situation, Hewett open to moving and the compo they get, yes they're probably OK with it. But that doesn't mean he's a player 'they never really wanted to keep'...it's more like they couldn't keep him and are just making the best of their situation.

Im still amazed people want SOS back. He has no idea about how future first trading works and doesn’t know much about Lipinski. Frightening

no idea? he literally did the first trade that involved a future pick with Geelong and then traded that pick to GWS for the pick we used on Harry Mckay.

He also did one of the first live draft trades with future pick in 2018 for Liam Stocker.

SOS like all recruiters make mistakes but he was ahead of all other recruiters when it came to future picks, live trading and salary cap dumps.
Spent time learning from US sport organisations.

Jesus.

My job revolves around analytics and numbers and for some reason I struggle with the 9 times table but not other things way more complex. Suppose I should resign tomorrow? Knock SOS all you like for things you think he didn't do well, but give me a break on this bs.

not that we needed another reminder that Twitter is most definitely not the place toeither seek or dispense nuance, but my read is;

Sydney really like Hewett as a player and a person. With their list and cap the way it is, he was a player they felt they could more easily compensate for on field with cheaper kids and the 450-500 he would have commanded as a salary is a significant relief to have off the books given how stretched they are.

You know you are a BF Blues addict when...

... Your club has just signed a new CEO, new coach, had Cerra nominate, Hewett join and you're still checking a dozen times a day to see if the Bluemours No Discussion thread has been updated.

Basically means we could have got him on a 2 or 3 year contract (in his opinion)

There would be a fair chance that the Swans would match if we did as it would have meant that they would have received less compensation.

Fine balancing act for them, balancing the books whilst maximising their return.

Twitter got its name from the fact most of its contributors are twits and/or twats.

Pretty sure...

A 4 year contract for George Hewett is an extremely safe investment compared to a 4 year contract for Mitch McGovern, for example. Intrinsically motivated and driven player coming into his prime, sweet.

There's no doubt that SOS is a polarising figure, as evidenced in this place, as well as within the CFC. But to suggest that anyone who has demonstrated - at worst, competence and at best, excellence - in everything they've tried their hand in, can in some way have "had their day" at the age of 54, is patently absurd.

The only way SOS has "had his day" is if he's decided that he's had enough.

He's one of those individuals who will do the relevant research, hone the appropriate skills and gather the requisite knowledge for whatever role they choose. And if he decided to direct his energies back into a football club in some capacity, then I have no doubt he would again demonstrate his competence.

He's not some doddering old fool.

Who said anything about being a doddering old fool? He is far from a fool.
Being 54 is irrelevant.
If SOS 's time as an club recruiter is over, it won't be due to how many candles he blows out on his birthday cake!

Don’t worry about Cornes, he has no idea and Cleary should stick to facts and breaking news. I’d suggest that they definitely would have loved to keep Dawson and Hewett, but on reduced terms contractually. Pretty sure Harley gave that vibe off. Cornes should start thinking about how his team has lost 3 prelims of late and are targeting types of players that their list already has a lot of. Gotta love the media

He isn't perfect

2015 spectacular

2016-2020, not ****ing up Walsh has been his only success

Carlton, Sydney and Hewett would’ve had discussions weeks ago, if not months ago regarding this.

Hewett likely looking for more time as an attacking midfielder.

Sydney need to shed space due to the Buddy deal. They have promising youth in similar positions as Hewett who can play his role for less than what Hewett commands in the open market.

Carlton need a hard edge in the midfield, as well as depth.

Hewett, probably a 3 year deal type player rather than someone you’d give 4. Carlton know this, but to avoid a trade and lose valuable draft capital we offer terms that hit a late 2nd round compo band (4 years over X amount)

Effectively, Sydney shed salary cap space and gain a draft pick. Carlton retain their 2nd rounder which, arguably is/should’ve been Hewett’s value and add a hard nosed midfielder with clean hands to their midfield rotation.

Suddenly, in one off season we add a B grade and an A grade mid to our on ball rotation, all for Pick 6 and some change. Our midfield in 2022 looks like:
Walsh, Cripps, Cerra, Kennedy, Dow, Hewett, Cuningham

With Martin, Williams, Fisher and probably Stocker all playing cameo roles.
Hewett can go in when Kennedy cannot, Kennedy can rest forward, Cripps can rotate more often and play anaerobically as suited to his huge frame and Cerra adds class, precision and speed to our midfield.

If Crippa returns to his best, we literally go from a bottom 6 midfield to a top 3 (behind Dees and probably the Dogs)

You've just described every single list manager in the history of the game. Well done.

2016-2020 weren’t anything amazing but I’d say SOS did well to select TDK, live trade and selection of Stocker, live trade and drafting of Kemp, rookied Honey as well as taking Walsh when some experts were calling for Lukosius or Rankine.
