In this thread, ploz provide sauces for anything you claim as fact. It can be specific such as an article link or Neale's sisters cousins hairdresser or vague such as "own sauces" but ploz avoid blanket statements with no reference point, it makes people antsy.

How about this.
We go to North. You gives us 1 & 20 and we’ll give 84 and promise not to make a deal for Cerra.
Genuine ? Would that be against any draft rules?

What you're describing is similar to the infamous "Veale deal".

Jade Rawlings wanted to leave the Hawks and go play with his brother at North.
Hawks weren't happy with North's offer.
Dog were offering pick 6, but Rawlings didn't want to go there.
The dogs also had pick 1 in the PSD, so they worked out deal to trade pick 6 for Lochlan Veale (who was pick 65 the previous year and hadn't played a game), and the Hawks wouldn't trade Rawlings anywhere forcing him into the PSD where the dogs picked him up.

Rawlings kicked 7.4 in his first game for the dogs, but only managed to play another 30 games.
Hawks traded pick 6 for Danny Jacobs and he only played 45 games for them.
The bombers used pick 6 on Kepler Bradley, he played 49 games for them until they delisted him.
North used the pick 9 they were trying to trade on David Trotter who only played 7 games.
The Dogs also traded pick 19 for Steven Koops and he only played 11 more games.
Fremantle used pick 19 on some kid called David Mundy

CATS NEVER TOLD FREO 'GIVE US PICK 8 FOR CLARK'

Geelong head of recruiting Stephen Wells says discussions with Fremantle over Jordan Clark are "going well".

Responding to criticism over the club's reported pitch for the Dockers' pick 8, Wells denied the Cats had asked for the top-10 selection.

"It's been reported about pick 8. I can confidently say that we've never just said, 'Give us pick 8 for Jordan Clark'. Were not like that, we are realistic", he told SEN.

"That's never been on the table, but we do expect that given hes contracted well try and organise a deal that is fair for everybody.

"In that sort of trade, there would have been an understanding that if pick 8 came our way, something else will go with Jordan. That's not going to happen now.

"Both clubs and Jordan need to be happy with the outcome. All I know is there has been good, constructive discussions between us and Fremantle.

"Once a good concrete proposal has been put forward the decision could be made straight away."

Wells said both all parties are on the same page when it comes to the potential trade.

"Out of respect for Jordan's position and his request, we are talking to Fremantle," Wells said.

"Andrew Mackie from here and David Walls from Fremantle have had plenty of conversations about all of this.

"There's still a lot to work through. Jordan understands that hes a contracted player and it would have to be a good deal for us to let him go.

"But that's all being worked through at the moment, quite realistically I reckon."
Lol, Stephen, short of you giving pick 9 with Clark, there is no reasonable situation we include pick 8 in the trade

What the actual? Have we been lied to by the media?

Can't believe I'm reading this.
Disagree, there is no reasonable situation we include pick 8 for Clark, which they knew when they asked, regardless of what they send back

Yeah he was talking shit. For an upgrade from 30ish to 8 you would have to pay a huge premium.
It would be like valuing Clark at pick 10

I suspect the conversation between Mackie and Walls is a lot more civil and professional than is being made out in the media and how it is being discussed on BigFooty etc.

If the roles were reversed I would somewhat expect us to cheekily suggest #8 as an option as well. I don't believe for one second that was the only option on the table from Geelong's end. I suspect it would have also discussed them using their picks in the 30s to pry a first round pick from Pies/Dogs or someone.

I'm feeling confident this will get done now for a pick in the 20s.

Something about this whole situation tells me we're going to give up a very valuable draft pick, on an unproven player (yes I know the irony of that statement, but I said it anyway!)

Thanks-great video. I was being slightly tongue in cheek.
That whole episode really highlights the fact that the draft is against the Trade Practices Act. I am surprised no player has every challenged it in Court.

Did Wells just make Clarks request official?

Everyone forgets about the Freo trades where we make out like bandits.

Hawks traded Lachie Neale (pick) for Jarrad Bouman because he looked like Buddy.

Spoiler - He was not Buddy

I actually agree that it was likely pick 8 was poorly reported.
Geelong would’ve knocked back 27. Asked about 8. Freo would’ve said in no way will pick 8 form per of this deal.
Simple really.
Doesn’t mean Geelong wanted pick 8 for Clark directly.

Gold Coast: Here Collingwood take all our picks for some meaningless future picks.

GWS: Here Port take Jeremy Finlayson for a future 3rd

Gold Coast: You want a pick for your future 2nd Freo? A pick in the late 40s seems fair.

GWS: You want Cam McCarthy Freo? Two first rounders seems about right.

Why are GC and GWS the currency exchange kiosk that have easily the best rates for everyone except Freo?

I think we used the currency exchange kiosk pretty well in 2017...

Pick 8 for Clarke & Cameron?
Remember that lots of more mediocre talent doesn't equate to one player at the appropriate talent level for the pick.

This whole Geelong thing is ridiculous. A trade for Patrick Lipinski (23 and played more often and with greater impact than Clark) is being floated at pick 58 (admittedly by the suitor). And yet we're stuck with the pick for Clark apparently needing to be a late first rounder!

Gosh, guys, I’ve been mainly lurking the last few years - but fair effort on all
the draft threads! TLDR everything as it will take hours, but is someone game enough to summarise who we have in our sights to come in and who (apart from Cez - I know about that) is going to be traded out?

and can someone explain to me why we are going on this Clark guy if he can’t get a game in Dad’s Army?

Clark to Freo
Lobb trying to move but has got close to no chance
Neale will head back to Freo sometime in the next few years
Cogs salary dump rumours - looks like going nowhere
Tucker to re-sign
Will Brodie coming to Freo from GC in some way
