If English is to go then we will probably need Ladhams. Would we settle for Ladhams, 2022 picks, and points for Darcy?

Something like: English, pick 45, pick 52, 2022 3rd rounder for Pick 19, Pick 22, 2022 2nd rounder

Then Pick 19 for Ladhams and 2022 3rd rounder.

That would give us:
* Points for a Darcy bid at 2 using only 3 list spots.
* A plug in replacement for English
* A really strong 2022 draft hand with an extra 2nd round pick.
Ugh that’s shocking

I'm disappointed at the overall lack of melting given the possible English departure. However given the way the AFL landscape has been trending in recent years, I guess we've all become more pragmatic, and possibly immune, to the idea of losing, if not a top liner, at least one seen as a key player movind forward. Coupled with the travails all have endured to varying degrees over past 18 months, I for one, am relatively reconciled with what happened on 25th September, and barring any other surprise rumours, if English leaves, well life goes on, doesn't it? Hopefully we just get to see some damn live footy next season, and support whoever actually runs out in RWB.

Hope you're all safe and well, for some reason I'm feeling a bit down today, and posting on here at times is almost therapeutic. So far, today is one of those days.

Go Dogs. :bulldogs:

Signing for Freo for 5 years is career suicide. Literally spending the peak of your career in the wilderness.
Not that I think English is leaving but why is that career suicide? He gets a massive secure 5 year contract to move home and be closer to his partner in the short term.

Is he further away from a flag at Freo? Absolutely but one could argue that given Freo have a dominant number 1 ruckman and that he’ll be able to play in his ideal role, he may flourish as a player. He might be further away from team success but as an individual player it’s not a bad situation at all.

Has the scorched earth, year zero coaching and trade strategy that Hawthorn seem to be employing ever actually worked in an AFL context?

Carlton are the club that immediately come to mind who tried it and they are still struggling to get out from under this tragic part of their history.

McEvoy and Sicily for Bailey Smith.
Gives us a 2-3 year flag window with Big Boy covering the ruck. And yes, clearly Bailey Smith is a up and coming superstar. That’s why the deal would work.
Id want a better ruck option and a player not coming back from an ACL if I was giving up a generational player like Smith.

Neither McEvoy or Sicily would guarantee us a flag.

Melbourne about 12-15 years ago?
Losing Joel McDonald set them back 5+ years at least

If anyone hates afl trade radio but wants good trade chatter - I know he usually sucks but Edmunds chats with Gary and Tim in the morning are pretty good and Riley Beveridge with Whately also good. Mitch clearys interviews are good too.

Nah. I like the idea but McEvoy's age of 32 makes that trade clear unders for us. If it was a 28-year-old McEvoy then it would be an interesting proposition.

I am a HUGE fan of English and it'd be a disaster to lose him BUT with WA' strict border rules and English coming out of contract next year it might be worth spitballing now.

If we could wrangle a high pick and Meek, depending on what Power could do with the pick, I'd consider it.

Trading Tim English for someone named Meek would be peak irony.

If that is the best example then Im not sure that its great template for Hawthorn to follow.

Most of the clubs that have had success prior to Melbourne this year have done it on the back of the draft and trading in role fillers.

Chin up, we will be top four next year, with a team of angry players.

Trent Dumont as depth? Free swing...

Trent Dumont as depth? Free swing...

I'd say he'd be behind our already growing list of midfielders, plus Garcia and West.

To save me scanning 50 pages back, can someone fill me in on the latest with English?

Is he open to trade back to Perth?

No word from the English camp. Fremantle have suggested if they trade Lobb they may be looking for a replacement.

That's it.

And some believe Freo have a contract for English already
