I wouldn’t mind our 2021 and 2022 first, and Melbourne’s 2022 first for JHF. I’d also want a gentlemen’s agreement that north don’t take Dawson in the PSD.

Really if you look at that overall it’s JHF and Dawson, for pick 4, 23 and next years first rounder.

Plus with Dawson and JHF I’d be confident of climbing out of the bottom 4 next year so our first rounder hopefully wouldn’t be so valuable

Really it could end up being do North take a Vic kid in Callaghan AND two 1sts 2022 over a SA kid?

If the situation was reversed, I would be pissed if we didnt take it.

I think Callaghan makes it to 4. Then there is the bounty from 2022 to add to it.

North may end up doing us a favour by rejecting it. I genuinely believe history wont be kind for them for knocking this back.
Callaghan only makes it to 4 if GWS and GC don't trade their picks. Otherwise which ever team trades up to 2 or 3 will take Callaghan.

Why exactly don't the GCS or GWS take Callaghan, he's pretty much a different type midfielder/winger to what both teams currently have?

North won't take Dawson in the PSD anyway. So we'd be giving up three first round picks for JHF including two likely top 4 picks. Too much.

Instead we should take Dawson in the PSD and pick up three quality players, and meanwhile back ourselves to lure JHF back in a few years when we're contending again.

I was speaking with a friend today who is within the industry but not the crows. He told me it is not a secret that Adelaide are preparing godfather offer 2.0 for pick 1. He also said that his gut told him that godfather 1.0 was pretty close to being successful.
This is unvarified but my friend is someone who might well know and is telling me what he has heard.
Interesting...

reckon if we didnt ask for their second back they would do it

Have posted this before but I reckon you should be able to trade Future 1st and a half round picks (and Future 2nd and a half round picks, Future 3rd and a half round picks... etc)

What I mean is that if you trade a 1st and a half rounder that means the pick range is 10-27 instead of 1-18.

If you finish bottom nine you keep your 1st round pick and they get your second (which is somewhere in the 19-27 range)

If you finish top nine they get your 1st round pick (which is somewhere in the 10-18 range).

What stops clubs trading Future picks often is the uncertainty of finishing positions 12 months out. This provides some insurance

Sounds like the NBA and protected picks.

In the NBA you can put a "protection" on a pick.

So, you could trade a Top 5 protected pick and if your pick lands in the top 5 you keep it for that year. The pick then moves to the next season.

However the next year it either becomes unprotected or the protection weakens. So it might move out to Top 15 etc.

It has its downsides, but I think it makes pick trading more attractive.

Would be funny if the Crows bid on Daicos if they got Pick 1. :$

I have no doubt we are actively trying to unsettle North, into giving us pick 1, last we heard North hadn't even spoken to JHF, we just need to keep playing up the South Australian card and we will constantly be around asking the question every time he comes out of contract which will force North to pay more to keep him each time a bit like us with Danger it won't just be us, Port will be sniffing too.

I don't have an issue with spending a shit load on him but I do have an issue with what expectations it would put on him and our club, for forever and day the media will be like "the crows could have had blah blah blah" If Horne doesn't become a superstar.

Like Sam Walsh is playing amazing footy but the media is still saying how good are the King's and Bailey Smith. JHF has to be prepared for all the shit he'll cop from the media and opposition players giving him shit

I reckon he's that good he will be fine

Only way we trade for pick 1 is if we get Dawson for free (I don't see that happening).

If you're trying to justify the pick 1 trade to yourself and you say JHF and Dawson for 3x first rounders...

They will be selling him already false propaganda about how they were est since 1870.

I think if North dont take a revised offer from us that doesnt include their future second, we can assume that they have no confidence Callaghan slips to 4. which then begs the question, are we better off splitting, or reaching for a kid at 4 who we might've gotten at 7?

Removing the 2nd as part of the equation tips the scales in their favour far too much, in my opinion.

That leaves us with pretty much nothing to deal wirh next year if luko or rankine want a trade home.. would ratger involve the pick 33 we have this year instead somehow..

Unless Mcrouch has a massive year next year and his value goes up and we can tell him to take a trade home and get a mid teens pick for him!..

If their isn’t some sort of uptick in their performances next year, particularly from Rankine, then they might not even be worth that much in terms of pick value. Neither are worth a 1st round draft pick at this stage

Our 2022 1st won't be a top 4 pick imo. It should be around 7 or 8. Let's face facts North are not giving up Horne. They did some serious tanking to get him and they didn't do it to hand him over no matter what we offer. If we really wanted Horne that bad we should have played more kids and took our 3 wins Let's get the Dawson deal done first and then focus on getting Callaghan if that's our man at 4. We are in a good position to get Horne if he comes home regardless of his affiliation with powaa when we are challenging in 3 or 4 years. The most we would give up then would be 2 first which would be a couple of picks in the teens. You don't give up 2 to 10 picks for any 18 year old. Horne is no certainty to be the best player out of this draft.

I will be very, very surprised if JH-F makes it to the Crows, just cannot see any team let alone Adelaide offering up what I see as an absolute ridiculous amount of draft collateral to give up on an unproven AFL player no matter how good vJH-F projects it's over the odds. That kind of collateral would bring in a high end proven AFL midfielder in the right age bracket for our rebuild.

Likosius is absolutely worth a 1st round pick on performance, Rankine not so much on performance. Lukosius is performing way better than Dawson was at the same age.
