Imagine how this conversation would go down whilst you're visiting a family member in hospital who is being treated for cancer or is possibly dieing of cancer ...

"Oh sorry, you've been here for two hours and are now required to leave because Premier Marshmallow and that idiot who thought you could catch covid off a pizza box or a football say if you stay in this room any longer than two hours you'll increase your chances of transmitting the virus. By the way, the fact that everyone in this room is vaccinated and in fact 90% of people in the whole state are vaccinated doesn't matter at all."

THIS. IS. NOT. SCIENCE.
If they were following the science then the response to unvaccinated visitors would be "Go away, get jabbed and then come back."

What they're instead doing is going for as small a risk of exposure as they can. Wrap an unvaxxed person up in PPE and limit the amount of time they're increasing the exposure risk.

Everyone needs to be bubble wrapped, have you not heard it’s the vaccinated spreading the virus here ?

Explain ? Vaccinated are highly contagious too, do the unvaxed spread a different form of virus ? Or is it punishment ?

Being vaccinated significantly reduces the risk of transmission, reduces the hospitalisation and death numbers.

Massively.

As has been stated numerous times in this thread from statistics across the world.

That's fact mate.

Not sure what you mean by "punishment"

Our workplace just mandated double vaccination by January, good on them, evidently only one complaint among over 500 :thumbsu:

Other similar businesses now following suit.

You do realise that you have to question science, it’s how it’s done.

Yes, you should ask questions. That is how knowledge is gained, shared and grown.

But social media platforms are echo chambers. Not the place where you will those questions answered with facts in a nuanced and balanced way.

When some anonymous person with a piano playing cat avatar on twitter, facebook or, the Big Footy Forum says they have done 'research' what they really mean is they found a video which they watched with little or no objectivity.

They came across something in their algorithm manipulated feed, something that spiked their implicit emotional biases and they then subconsciously applied their emotional filters and ended up with a predetermined one paragraph answer which they called 'proof'.

And that is how rhetorical statements, with little or no basis in fact becomes the scientific 'proof' that is shared amongst hundreds of thousands of like minded souls on the Internet.

And how we end up with thousands of otherwise normal people marching alongside brain dead gormless fooks with 'Elect Trump 2024' banners and red ensigns claiming that they 'want their freedoms back'.

This article, written by 2 immunology researchers in relatively easy to understand language might help provide answers to your question/statement:

It's almost as if getw0ditederver doesn't understand transmission rates and modelling. Even if it was a 10-15% drop in remissibility via vaccination, that's a big big difference when considering the exponential nature of disease spread.

He does not understand s**t. I dont know why people continue to try to converse with him and educate him. Its a waste of time.

No s**t, lots of this hasn't been. We have people believing masks are a Talisman and unvaccinated people don't spread the virus etc and policies made based on this, on what feels right because it's sciency right? It's like the rest of the world hasn't been through this 12months ago..

Covid science is very hard to distinguish from covid politics. It's also important to listen to actual infectious disease specialists rather than general doctors weighing in on areas outside their expertise.

For example, the head of the AMA in WA has told the government not to open until 5-11 year olds have been vaccinated. What's this man's area of expertise you ask? He's a plastic surgeon. Dr Nick Coatsworth, an actual infectious diseases physician, disagrees.

The Grey Cloud is a Paediatrician, 6 years practicing in a hospital before becoming a Lecturer and then Bureaucrat.

Because they are not just debating another anon soul on the Internet but refuting statements of misinformation with facts.

Replacing misinformation with facts is never a bad idea IMHO.

I admire your commitment in trying.

Except it's not, really, when considering the endemic nature of this virus, its extreme infectivity and the number of breakthrough infections occurring mere months after vaccination.

Like, this experiment has already been run overseas. Why do we think we will be any different from Britain, Europe and the United States etc, where the virus is still freely circulating despite high vaccination rates? Do we have some magical Oceanic pfitzer spray that prevents the blatant full-vaxx transmission that has been seen everywhere else?

Honestly the ironing of people lecturing others about 'understanding the science'TM whilst simultaneously utterly failing to grasp the reality that these vaccines will never provide us with sterilising immunity, and that it doesn't matter how many draconian exclusions we place on the unvaccinated, Covid is not going to disappear.

Pretty much everybody is going to end up catching SARS-CoV-2 at some point. You have more risk of contracting coronavirus from a fully vaccinated family member/work colleague than an N95 wearing unvaccinated stranger. Sewing stars onto their shirt sleeves will not change this, nor will denying them basic medical care or access to public life.

If you cannot understand or embrace these basic premises then you have no grounds lecturing others on 'following the science'.

It's pretty simple. The less people who simultaneously have the virus, the better. It's never going away as you say. This is where vaccines help. It's got to pass through, but it needs to pass through in a controlled way. Between Papa G's "let er' rip" strategy and the fear mongers "CLOSE THE BORDERS *IN!" there is a balance.

NSW have achieved the balance. 92.8% of 16+ population fully vaccinated and the virus is barely causing a ripple. It would be great to get 100% but realistically we can afford 5-10% of idiots to not get vaccinated and it will still all be ok.

At this point, the small broke states like SA and WA are obviously just scared their already on the brink hospital systems will collapse under the weight of a relatively small number of covid patients at any one time. That is really clear.

The SA government are going to get a pretty solid public backlash if double vaxxed people are getting put into quarantine all the time, especially over Christmas.

What they should have done is opened the borders on Monday December 20th. More time to get the vaccination rates up, but still let people in for Christmas. Ensure that we probably have a handful at most of cases before Christmas so you haven't ruined it.

If you've got double vaxxed people who have done everything right up until now who end up in a 7 day quarantine over Christmas, they simply won't comply, and who can blame them?
