But are night finals matches counted as "Senior Matches (being either home and away or finals series matches)"?

Norwood played a bunch of them in the 70s, I think 8 in total

Of course I would be arguing to the AFL that they are based on the wording of the rule. They are senior matches, and they are in a finals series. It might be a technicality but I'd be looking into it
Nope - not finals series.

I wonder who our first father son to properly make it at AFL will spawn from? I'm surprised that in 30 years of being a club we haven't produced one that's made it into the best 22 yet.

I'm not sure it's that surprising given you need to disreagard the first 10 years. Do West coast have any father/sons?

A pair of Corneses if we didn't sack Graham for Robert Shaw until 1 year later.
Or even just appointed him as an honorary administrator for a year under the previous rules, as Graham had suggested to the club to ensure his sons' F/S eligibility

There's quite a few we could have had, if the Grandfather rule had come in earlier. Luke Darcy is the first who springs to mind.
And he might not have turned out such a w***er.

(A) Norwood Football Club;
(B) Glenelg Football Club;
(C) Sturt Football Club; or
(D) South Adelaide Football Club.

Not that it ultimately matters in the end, but does that mean Port got;

Port Adelaide
North Adelaide
West Adelaide
Central District
Woodville
West Torrens

6 clubs to 4?

I'd say Westies would be aligned to the Crows .....would be a North / South split

Yes I mentioned that earlier.

Sacking him was fine. He asked to take on an admin role the year before his son was eligible for the draft, so that his son won be eligible for F/S and we declined that offer.

Woodville & WT merged and I think Port may have lost their zones, with a re-zoning of all clubs' affiliated zones to make things somewhat equitable.

I remember Trigg saying a lesson he learnt from Bill Sanders about putting the club first, second and third or something like that. Who was in charge at the time and how was turning down Cornes offer putting the club first?

IIRC Graham offered to work for nothing so that his sons qualified.

yeah but seeing as SANFL f/s are only from pre-1990 when there were 10 clubs, I don't see how WWT merger and Port losing their SANFL zones today have anything to do with SANFL f/s divisions

But then again we got Borlase through NGA and him being at Sturt - so maybe it's line with that model too?

Ah, ok - wasn't thinking of that.

I'm not sure why we didn't get them anyway. Graham played 317 games between 1967 and 1982, surely that's enough even if you take out his PS games.

This is the exact rule as it is written in the 2021 AFL Rules

The Adelaide Football Club may include a person on its Primary List if that person’s father played 200 or more Senior Matches (being either home and away or finals series matches) at one of the following clubs prior to but not including, 1991:

(A) Norwood Football Club;
(B) Glenelg Football Club;
(C) Sturt Football Club; or
(D) South Adelaide Football Club.

So the question is do the night series matches count as "senior matches"?

Yes, Port get 6 clubs and a longer time frame

The Port Adelaide Football Club may include a person on its Primary List if that person’s father played 200 or more Senior Matches (being either home and away or finals series matches) at one of the following clubs prior to, but not including, 1997:

(A) Port Magpies Football Club;
(B) Woodville Football Club;
(C) West Torrens Football Club;
(D) North Adelaide Football Club;
(E) Central Districts Football Club; or
(F) West Adelaide Football Club.

I think it may have been considered that we got the 'good clubs' - Norwood, Sturt, Glenelg.

I think the original F-S rules for us were different back back in our earlier days ... much harder to qualify (and just as hard to gooble for a copy of them now it seems).

There was a clause where games only started in 1980 or something.
Had to be played in a 20-year window, from 1971-1990. The 1990 criteria still remains, but the 1971 criteria was removed after they did a review following the Gibbs fiasco (AKA the Grandfather rule).

Woodville and Central’s only played from 1964 - I remember when they redid the rule it worked out that the available fathers (those who met the qualification criteria)were pretty comparable between the 4 clubs aligned to Adelaide and the rest to Port
