He was always known as a flight risk before the draft and I firmly believe North did the right thing by their club not drafting him (and Phillips is going to be an elite player in about another season or two)

A top ten pick and maybe one of Freo's kids that is not untouchable seems like a fair deal to me, plus maybe a potential swap of future 2nd rounders.

This year's draft is the best since the Sam Walsh Superdraft, so the Swans could still get a decent return if he goes.

He is exactly hope Freo needs and I hope they get him (really like Longmuir and what he is building there)

I mean i have no idea where you could gather he is very likely to return home, we have no information suggesting it one way or the other.

The main point though is on his value

If he kicks 35+goals as a second year key forward and leads the Swans to a deep finals run, he is absolutely worth two top 10 picks.

If he struggles to crack the best 22 all year he is worth no where near that.

For a key forward who has literally played 1 season speculating on his value is pointless, the sample size is just way too small to know his worth.
I don’t disagree but that’s boring, I’d have to find a new way to waste time.

The fact he played 7 games in 2021 and in 4 of those games kicked 2 or more goals is promising.

You can tell his body is not yet ready because after 5 games in a row last year he was looking pretty spent, but that will come with time.

If there was one WA Key forward poached it would be naughton IMO with both Darcy and JUH in the wings.

Could go, but doubt it.
Naughton is contracted until 2024, has just joined the leadership group, and actively wanted to go to Victoria prior to being drafted. Probably one of the least likely Key Forwards to end up back in WA

If he choses to leave (and I am almost certain he will at this point) Freo are a much more appealing trading partner for The Swans than The Eagles imo.

Bell is a pretty fair dealer (perhaps to the detriment of Freo at times) and would give the Swans decent compo.

I dont think Gold Coast agrees with you there on Bell trading fair btw. ;)

IMO Freo will finsh higher than the Eagles this season. So in a very rare year the Eagles may well have better picks to trade plus they already hold Ports 2nd rounder.

But they do tend to gain additional picks from players leaving, something the Eagles rarely have.

Depends where West Coast and Freo finish. Top10 pick probably gets its done if you are low enough to wave the PSD

It depends on the pick and who is below you.

Say Eagle end up with pick 6 and Freo pick 9.

Is any other non WA team going to risk pick 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 on a now confirmed flight risk? In a really strong draft?

North already answered that question.

So the Eagles offer pick 6 plus a 3rd rounder to be nice cos thats what they do.

If Swans say na. Well they use pick 6 on draft day, get their man and save the 3rd rounder.

And visa versa if Freo held pick 6.

So the idea of DEMANDING two top 10 picks is pretty weak. Swans have little to no leverage. He is not worth that and neither team needs to pay that.

Collingwood monitoring his situation extremely closely...
The club players supported as a kid rarely make any difference in who they pick if they move. It would seem really weird to me for him to leave Swans after two years for any reason other than going home. I'm not sure that has ever happened before (leaving a club early in their career NOT to go back to their home state)

Do you negotiate? Can guarantee that that is exactly where the swans should start IF he does want to leave.

No noise at all in regards to him wanting to leave.

Wouldn't be surprised if Kennedy retires, and West Coast throw a significant portion of his contract at McDonalds manager.

Kennedy will retire this year, has been darn good but the writing is on the wall.

Oscar is the heir apparent at the Eagles, but with Jackie being off with the “fairies”, maybe he will need an infusion of quality talent.

Is the answer Logan, or will the cost analysis not be a positive for the Eagles heirachy ?.

Pretty much what I said? This two R1 picks for a kid is rubbish to be honest, especially if he has only played a handful of games.

Not signing early is a sign.

Considering we re-signed Gulden a little over a week and a bit ago.

Stephens, former pick 5, signed last year in sept for us.

Not sure can see it as a "sign".

If I was in Logan's managers shoes, either way of wanting to stay or go, in a no lose position comtractually. Play well means more money. Do not play much/well, no real lose as will likely be desireable offers.

Again, heard no noise about him wanting to leave. Last contract stuff is opened discussions last Oct, same time as Gulden.

Swans can start with three top 10 picks. That doesnt change anything people have said. He isnt a Judd nor a Dangerfield. Which is pretty bloody obvious and wont changein the next 12 months.

Do you seriously beleive this 7 gamer is worth what Judd went for? More than Dangerfield?

Open the other eye mate.

And in any negotiations that is exactly what the Swans will hear when they start with two top 10 picks.

A KPP and high pick I would presume would want to hold longer before signing to see how he goes in 2022 impacting value. Doesn't that show confidence in his own ability (a good sign) and no indication of wanting to leave at all. No mail about him wanting out

Kennedy retiring has been coming for a while, his salary would already be allocated elsewhere.Kelly, McGovern, Oscar Allen.

What may free up decent cash is Shuey retiring this season due to his hamstrings and Darling. Shuey would be on $700k and Darling will end up on 25% of the base AFL salary if he doesnt get jabbed. Then either sacked or even traded at year end. Even if Jack takes a hair cut for half a season that could free up $250k,, add Shueys $700k and you have $1m freed up that was not planned or expected.

The market will force up McDonald's contract value. Wonder if old man Buddy will go round again?

So I assume you do not negotiate, because if you did, you would know that the starting requirement would be two good first round pick.

Never said what I would actually value him at. I feel you should open the other eye and actually read what I said.

You seem very vocal on this topic. Why? I dont know, as there is no indication that Logan is leaving.
out of interest, what do you think Logan is worth in a trade (apologies if you've already said this)
Logan was taken at p4 (many recruiters ranked him higher than that). He's achieved everything that has been asked/expected of him. He'll have two years development (very important/valuable for a KPP), and quality development at that.

So what do you reckon is fair for a tall forward, taken at p4, with 2 years development, who's has achieved everything he was supposed to?

If he wants to go to WA then fair won't really come into it. Swans would get an OK not great offer and the WA clubs don't bid against each other.

My question is hypothetical and considers all things are equal (which they're not)
What is a p4 KPF, who has achieved all of what was expected, and has 2 years development worth?

ps. there is no indication that he wants to go to WA

Probably somewhere between pick 5 and pick 10. Which makes no sense but that's AFL trading.

With steady improvement ( not J Cameron 60 goal 2nd season) If we hold a top 10 pick it would be that plus a 3rd or a B+ player the Swans want and is happy to go. (Within reason).

If more is needed swap the 3rd with one of the two 2nds we hold.

Im expecting the Eagles to have a pick around 7 or 8. This season.

Anyway it could be a moot point. ;) Eagles just unleached Barrass forward in the practice game and he was very, very good. Train on Keitell also did well and marked strongly, Id like Keitell given a chance. 196cm kp FF.
