Yep. We should be looking forward to watching the Riolis, Gulden, Warner having blinders or to old Jack and Bud turning back the clock.

Instead the folk in green will be the central figures. Each will make 20 or so decisions and the game will be stop start like it is caught in traffic gridlock. Players and fans alike will be mystified.

It used to be the best umpiring was almost invisible, the game flowed and skills could shine. Not now.

URRKKH... wrote this two days ago. 60 frees, many from the lucky dip.

Despite the umps there was some wonderful play from both Clubs.

Bad luck Tiges.

Nothing in the Buddy incident. Just a couple of aggressive pushes.

Shouldn't be seen that way, and I'll explain why.

MRO has made a ruling thay ANY head contact is medium impact, not low. Refer to Pickett bump - Moore gets straight up and isn't concussed but it's graded as reckless, high contact and medium impact.

If the MRO has any integrity Buddy's smack will be graded intentional, high contact, medium impact. Simply can't do that crap anymore.

Funny how Stevic had the situation explained to him, all the time in the world and blamed crowd noise.
We’ve had 50s with crowd noise paid last 2 weeks. No common sense rule applied. That’s not a rule we’ve been told.
Anyway. We didn’t deserve to win.
The legit 50s we gave away were more costly. Too much whistle the whole game, again. Hard to watch.
Was a good contest otherwise.

It's just another case of inconsistancy, Fremantle got the 50 after the siren earlier in the year, that sets the standard.
It was perfectly consistent.

The umpires made a subjective decision based on the circumstances.

People want objective decisions based on subjective situations.

Common sense argument is absolute bullshit. That is never used in games when it is too loud for players to hear, it’s still paid against. To ask the higher ups to make the call aswell is bullshit, too; it should set a precedent for every time a player kicks it away after a free kick for it to be given to the 3rd umpire to make the “common sense” call.
Richmond were not disadvantaged by the ball being kicked away.

The rules state….

A 50 cannot be payed after the siren.
A similar situation happened earlier in the year to the pies and the ump was heard to say on the mic “I wish I could but the rules say I can’t!”

So as soon as the siren went….no 50 can be paid.

No point going at the umps.
How about we direct the vitriol to the AFL?!?

Bolton gave away 2 50's last week for taking shots at goal after Jack Riewoldt gave away frees. Bolton didn't hear the whistle due to crowd noise. What is the difference? The umpire cannot pick and choose when to apply common sense because that opens a whole can of worms in regards to interpretation.
Umpire must have thought Bolton heard it, as other players around stopped. A bit different to this one, he obviously didn't hear it.

Why did the umpire argue that he couldn’t have heard the whistle?

it clearly went before the siren. If we are saying that the umpire assumes he didn’t hear it solely due to a loud crowd, then we can never have a 50m of that type paid ever again.

Yet there were 70+ thousand at Dreamtime, loud crowd and Bolton gets pinged for not hearing a whistle and taking shots at goal. Also, the whistle was clear before the siren. Should have given the ball straight back to Prestia according to rules.

Yes, we choked a massive lead in a game we should not have lost, but this is literally a game where an umpiring decision has influenced the potential outcome of a game.
