For some reason I was never confident aye. I believe alot in what the media types have been saying this week. Especially on the "can't trust them to win games" side of the discussion. The fact that we were playing the best footy I have seen us play for quite a while for a quarter and a half is what made the pain of the collapse linger a little longer.
Half way through the 2nd quarter I was thinking we were going to get a percentage boosting win, nearly came on here to post a fat lady singing.
When we win no one cares.Part of me wants to stop reading this thread but I can't help myself.
Even some of the games we won this year you could see many cracks. When we win no one cares.
When we lose there's constant traffic.
It's hard to stop yourself.

Even though we kept taking our 'learnings' out of prior years the drop off in our experienced players hasn't been comparably offset by improvement in younger players.Even some of the games we won this year you could see many cracks.
For a team that been top 4 three years in a row.. You feel we starting to slip backwards.
We should be more mentally on now then 2019. Although sometimes I feel the 2019/2020 Lions better then 2021/2022 team
A few of our players not what they used to be Zorko, Lyons, Robbo, Andrews and even Rich and Adams dropped off.
I think the club thought Bailey, Rayner, Clugga, Berry and hoped Cockatoo come alongEven though we kept taking our 'learnings' out of prior years the drop off in our experienced players hasn't been comparably offset by improvement in younger players.
We do have some good young players coming through and we need to trim our list of any older excess needs to reset.
With talls I do wonder how many playing injuredSorry, on the bolded, many were saying in the week leading up to this game that we are mad if we play Fort as sub - so there is no hindsight attached to it whatsoever even as a footy numpty like me. It was obvious. You have minimum two guys coming off soft tissue injuries, Zorko and Coleman, on a cold day in Melbourne against a fast Richmond. Surely the club new all of this yet it plays Fort in the event ONE player gets injured whereas a mid / utility can cover 21 players with a shuffling of the decks
That makes sense if that was the case but if so it would've been smarter to have Payne as the sub. At least he can run around a bit and replace a tall forward or back. And provide a tall option on the wings with McStay rucking on the remote chance that Oscar went down. With talls I do wonder how many playing injured
Andrews looks like he cannot jump and change directions. Wonder how bad his knees are.
Oscar could be carrying something etc
So maybe Fort was there for them more then Coleman or Zorko
Eric's press conference today was a lot like some of Fagan's post match interviews including Richmond haven't been getting enough credit and are a good team, there were positives out of the game and the kicker that the ladder doesn't represent where the Lions are at and the tough stretch of games coming up is the perfect way to prepare for September. I didn't by any of it.
But……. Will it?
I look forward to seeing the same post after we get knocked out of finals
You forgot to say.... in your opinion.ML with respect I completely disagree. I've seen many teams capable of turning it on for a half especially if the opposition was as poor as Richmond was then. You need strength , mental application and a proper team defence strategy to win games against top sides.
Dominating opposition teams for a half is useless if you can't protect your domination when you're not going so hot.
I'd give it up on Fort . He was ok against GC against lesser opposition. Flogging a dead horse there.

That goes without saying. You forgot to say.... in your opinion.![]()
Harris Andrews has been insipid for a couple of years. He refuses to fly and go for his marks and does not put his body on the line. His refuses to body spoil and often just reaches over and waves his arm at the ball without impacting the contest. His body language is also sooo negative, continually looks defeated which must have a negative impact on his team mates.Watching parts of the 2nd half makes me want to claw my eyes out. Cam Rayner has no future in the midfield if he isn't willing to defend. He was bad, actually worse than bad... Atrocious at any sort of defensive plays. Just no desire to defend and always hang off the pack on the attacking side. Unsure if this is a coaching thing or if players make their own decisions.
Richmond also shut off the corridor which once again we showed we have no in game plan b. They hit packs harder, they came in aggressive from both D50 and F50 from centre bounces, we plodded in. We were deep in D50 as well. Bolton took off multiple times and got in the gap between midfield and Defence which drew us forward and left harris 1v1.
This was very much an effort loss, probably over confident with the score line being such a margin.
Harris also looks cooked. You can be slow and still look like you're putting in effort running, but he jogs....
Big offseason needed for Kiddy with his Tank. Will be a massive asset to our team next year if he can run out the entire match
Haven't heard it . Got a text from a PP with significant knowledge in the game who said if that's what they think we've got no hope. Who is feeding them this stuff ?Eric's press conference today was a lot like some of Fagan's post match interviews including Richmond haven't been getting enough credit and are a good team, there were positives out of the game and the kicker that the ladder doesn't represent where the Lions are at and the tough stretch of games coming up is the perfect way to prepare for September. My only observation is why put a young guy in this situation. Just let them play and leave the insights into how we're going to those who are paid to be the face of the club.
Small correction but I believe he was saying the ladder wasn’t representative of where Richmond are at as a team (not us).Eric's press conference today was a lot like some of Fagan's post match interviews including Richmond haven't been getting enough credit and are a good team, there were positives out of the game and the kicker that the ladder doesn't represent where the Lions are at and the tough stretch of games coming up is the perfect way to prepare for September. Past player.Excuse my ignorance but whats a PP?
I agree with the bolded.Harris Andrews has been insipid for a couple of years. He refuses to fly and go for his marks and does not put his body on the line. If his name wasn't Harris Andrews, he'd have been dropped a long time ago.
Time to give Payne a go in his place.
