Tigers Ben Miller UFA. A good cheap option that fills a need

Staying with my previous posts, we can't continue to retain the collective tall/3rd tall players that are either unbalanced, under developed and or injury prone. I see Miller playing as the stopping KPD, shifting Young to be the intercept tall. So, the way I see it, Miller would replace a Parks/Omac on the list, even if you want to retain the talented Marchbank and Gov despite both still have on-going injuries.

Of course OMac might be given the all clear for future back concerns, but if there are any doubts, we need to make tough calls

We would still need to go to the draft for these types, so we continue to rejuvenate and or having developing types. I wouldn't be drafting Foster or a predominant KPF that can ruck, I want a ruckman that can be a threat forward
Still see Miller as a good option considering he is a UFA, can play anywhere down the spine

Tell me this isn't a premiership side in 2023:

Gov Young Stocker
Marchy Weits Saad

Williams Doc Fisher
Pitto/TDK Cripps Hewett

Martin McKay Walsh
Silvagni Curnow Durdin/Motlop/Owies/Honey

Cerra Kennedy Options/Options

Better off targeting a FA like Goldstein for a year or two and let TDK develop.

But agreed, a component ‘ready to go’ ruckman would be beneficial.

Other than that I’d look at hitting the draft. Need more quality youth.
We would be mad not to ask the question to Goldstein, if he was on our list now, he would be our number one ruckman and we would be pretty happy about it.

Still too early for the final names, but this in May

Only predictions at this stage, will get a better idea in the 2nd half of the year

Josh HoneyRetain
Lachlan FogartyDelist
Lewis YoungRetain
Liam StockerRetain
Lochie O'BrienMight get a contract based on triggers

As for possible trades, any number of viable options

We have a desperate need for a ruckman that can take a mark like Gawn and Jackson. Pitto just does not do that. Big body, yes but minimal presence around the ground.

We’ve probably got him already and his name is Tom De Koning.

We’ve all forgot the player Gawn was in his first 5 seasons.

I’d venture to say at this stage of his career TDK is ahead of him.

I’m certainly not guaranteeing he’ll get to that level but it’s worth pursuing.

People seem to sway their thoughts heavily in a direction, due to a moment, a game, maybe 2-3.

I also understand that people make emotive statements, even over the top melts, but imagine if the clubs was that fickle to send the like of McKay to the VFL and or the trade table.

TDK hasn't even entered a stage where he would be deemed as consistent, let alone where his peak will start. Mirkov will probably get to the point of being more ready back half of next year, but no guarantees. While I like Jsos doing some stints in the ruck, I don't like it to continue on a regular basis
2 years till he’s consistent 4 years till he peaks I think he will be worth the wait

We've had 21 games this season and I'm yet to see a game where TDK has shown he is untouchable. If there's a market there we've gotta explore it. It's not the most essential position to have an A-grader. Would rather 2x top 20 picks and nail both of them on a mid and KPF and get by with role player level rucks

TDK hasn't even entered his peak years, picks don't equal better players unless you are trading. Even then nothing is guaranteed

He was drafted with a 2nd round pick. Turning him into 2 firsts is a win. Sure we could burn those picks. But there's still uncertainty if TDK is actually going to be a good player let alone a great like everyone assumes he will just be

I don't think he will be a great, just a very good modern day ruck/forward

Anyway, let's see how it plays out

I don’t necessarily disagree 2 x 1sts would be a good result, but you’re looking at it in entirely the wrong way.

He’s not a stock. In the discussion of what we get for him, where he was drafted initially is completely irrelevant.

He is a stock. All listed players are until they are free agents. If a club was crazy enough to offer us something like that it would be too good to refuse.

Haven't done the exercise but wouldn't have thought his numbers at 23 are way above the absolute top shelf rucks like Grundy, NicNat and Gawn produced. Or even someone like Tim English at 23 had shown more and I reckon the Dogs would have taken 2 firsts for him

No. Crocker is a VFL footballer and nothing more unfortunately.
There’s a couple of very good players in the VFL squad who would be potential rookie picks (maybe not for us) … Cincotta, Trudgeon, Moschetti, Leui could develop further.
Crocker has been found wanting at AFL previously and Maher has a great burst but not much skill.

No, he is not a stock. He is a footballer.

It makes zero sense to determine the success of a trade based on where somebody was drafted X years earlier.

If Charlie Curnow wins the Coleman this year and come trade week we move him on for pick 11 in the draft, have we won that trade just because we drafted him with pick 12?

It's a ridiculous way of looking at things.

How do we get Scholl from Adelaide - do we have to trade or does he just walk to PSD ?

I'd be inclined to think the Jones compensation (3rd round) would suffice.

I think he has shown more than enough to suggest he will be a very good player, but in the end I have no idea.. More importantly, people at the Club with far more understanding/awareness than I believe he will be.

However, no-one is 'untradeable' but it would need to be heavily weighted in our favour in my opinion..
