Geelong vs pies final should not be at the mcg.

You lot have the biggest advantage so stop sooking. I actually want Geelong to one day get a home final at KP and stop playing all home games at MCG. The only way that's happening is with a bigger stadium. That way you lot won't be so comfortable with having two home grounds as you do right now mixing with both grounds. Right now Geelong have almost a whole season as a home ground. Hardly travel.

Tell me again about unfair advantage. Entitled supporter down over in Geelong. So delusional that you don't even know how big a advantage you lot have.

At least if Geelong had one venue as a home it would become slightly uncomfortable when you have to travel to the MCG not being so comfortable with it. Last team to be complaining of having a unfair advantage is Geelong.

So let me get this clear. The general point is Geelong have an advantage? And the advantage is comfort. Well I'd be the last person to complain about being comfortable, so I think that ends the debate.

Marvel Stadium size would be the requirement for finals. Just above 50k. 60k ideally is what's required.

Geelong are within 40 minutes of 100k capacity MCG and 50k capacity Marvel. They will never get a home final with a low small 36k capacity. It's not even close. Home finals is all to do with capacity of the grounds per state.

Swans SCG is 48k.
GWS home finals play at the SCG.
They would never be allowed to play at there rabble Manuka Oval for finals

Gabba is 42k but given they are in another state and that's the biggest venue up there. Isn't much they can do.
Suns home ground for finals is the Gabba not Metricon.

Its not that hard to understand. In future stadium builds the AFL will be looking at 60k as a minimum capacity and due to how much that would cost they would probally make the Bulldogs home to be included with Geelongs if a new stadium was ever built Geelongs way becoming a two team shared stadium
No they don't

Huh?

How come the NSW teams don't play at ANZ stadium with its 83k capacity?

Couldn't get the surface right with so many injuries. AFL declined it another contract and kept SCG. Also from what I gather Swans vs Kangas was the last final with a crap crowd.

Really enjoyed watching the 2016 Prelim, 2017 semi and 2019 elimination final from under my rock at the Sydney Showgrounds
Who cares about GWS. Rabble anyhow. Irrelevant.

If they could get decent crowds they be at SCG. Blight of the league GWS so yeah is completely understandable to forget what they have done in the past.

It will make a mockery of the competition if the clear competition leader is playing its home final in front of 75 thousand screaming pies fans at the ground the pies play 15 games at each season when the pies finished fourth.

we can not have a repeat of the ridiculous 2017 finals series.

surely the competition has moved beyond the amateurish of playing finals where crowds are highest at the expense of fairness. Other professional sports do not do this.

note the grand final is a little different because there are no home sides in a grand final and the crowds arent heavily biased to mcg tenants due to fans travelling and all the neutral fans. So please dont bring grand final arguments into this thread as its not equivalent.

play the game at either kardinia and if thats not possible (it is) then play at least docklands.

for the sake of the competition.
Have a stadium that fits more people then......or alternately have all 50K members turn up to the MCG and even the crown noise.

You realise I’m not sooking, I’m responding to the frankly teenage-masturbatory-level of whinging from you and others that the current situation is ‘the AFL handing everything to us.’

I’ll ask you again.

Start a petition to have 2 of your Optus Stadium home games moved to Adelaide or Melbourne or Sydney to be staged against tenants of those grounds if you think it’s such a great advantage.

What am I delusional about Einstein?

We play less games at home every year than every other team and get FORCED to host other teams at THEIR home ground.

Take your hand off it, soothe the rash and use some lube, and stop and think about what you are posting.

We don’t want extra MCG games.

If we are drawn to play an away match against Richmond, Hawthorn, Collingwood, whoever, fine. We play there. What most Geelong fans protest at, is tinsel eating excuse makers like yourself, telling us we should be grateful that our HOME games against those sides are some sort of gift when we have to stage them in another city.

So schedule the game to a venue that has hosted just 1 match since 2016? Logical decision. Extremely comparable to the MCG which hosts about 3 matches every week!

why would that matter? It's about getting the crowds in

Im prety sympathetic to geelongs case in this, but also think they should change their ground to be more representative of a traditional footy ground.

What's a traditional footy ground?

afl-ground.png

Anything from 135-185m in length x 110-155m in width

And here are the ground measurements of some VFL footy grounds:
Bendigo: 162 x 116
Box Hill: 154 x 142
Casey: 158 x 130
Coburg: 154 x 132 and Highgate reserve 163 x 139
Collingwood: 160 x 131
Frankston: 170 x 105
Geelong: 171 x 115
N.Ballarat: 159 x 137
N.Blues: 159 x 138
Port: 152 x 125
Sandy: 150 x 117
Werribee: 166 x 117
Willy: 155 x 128
Windy Hill: 152 x 125
Whitten Oval: 161 x 123

and for good measure..
MCG: 162 x 140

Considering Australian Football Fields have evolved from cricket grounds, they come in all shapes and sizes. The home team can use it to their advantage.

It's not unfair. Away wins are better. Getting a rare "home" MCG final like this week feels weird, almost dirty. Hopefully as many Pies fans who can't make it to the SCG get down on Friday to cheer the Lions.
I was being sarcastic in any case.

No club is ever going to get the ideal draw and every match is a balancing act.
On the whole I think the AFL have gotten most things of importance very right for the last 2 decades.

In reality the taxpayer, state or federal has paid for all the ground redevelopments around the country, with a Tassy Stadium to come so they are not really "home" grounds at all, just the closest "neutral" grounds.

Collingwood could demand to play at Victoria Park if they were crazy enough.

Did Geelong and their fans whine this much about a home final during their premiership run over the years in 2007, 2009 & 2011? HELL NO! It was something that was most likely raised but never realistic.

Then in 2013, as one of the two dominant team in the comp in a season they could have continued their pattern of premierships, they saw an opportunity for a home final against Freo. Didn't they make a song and dance about it too!

So much that it took the club's focus away from winning their finals and the whole bloody thing, and got ambushed by Freo in their KP QF. Losing that game put them onto Hawthorn's side of the finals draw and they lost the prelim to them by less than a kick, after beating Hawthorn in the 10 previous meetings! Winning the QF would've had them rested in Wk 2, pitted them against Sydney in the PF and most likely won it and played Hawthorn in a GF. Instead they had to needlessly play Port in a semi and got a rested Hawthorn in the PF who took care of Freo in the GF.

And with competitive team after competitive team since then, they still crap on about home finals and haven't won a premiership!

Focus on the important stuff Cats, not a bloody final in a 20k venue.

I think if you read through the thread, with one individual exception, most of the whining is being done by non cats fans furious that we get 9 home games at all

You and GWS played more games at the MCG this season than 3 Victorian clubs and the other 6 interstate sides. Quite an indictment on this joke of a league both of you had more games there than WB. They at least made the 8.
Wow, great use of selective stats. Port Adelaide has had 2 successful H&A seasons and deserved some games at the G, pity we sucked this year.

If I told you that Joel Selwood has played 100 H&A games at the MCG whilst David Mundy and Travis Boak are stuck in the 30's, might be a more relevant sample size.

We host 2 games at the G. Then we are the away team 2-3 times just like you are. Give us 11 at Kardinia and it’s evenly matched

Every final should be played at the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium in Pyongyang, North Korea. It seats 150k and is the biggest capacity stadium in the world. It's an absoloute joke that the tiny little cricket circle in Melbourne gets all the big finals.
Been there, can confirm it’s true.
