Actually our only small defender. How can this happen?

So a full time AFL journalist seems to think we missed finals this year? Wow.It was Jay Clarke who wrote it. He also said on Triple M about half an hour ago that Luke Beveridge simply can’t miss the finals next year because “missing the finals two years in a row would be unacceptable with our spine” (which included Liam Jones, Rory Lobb and Sam Darcy).
I’d take the podgy idiots views with a grain of salt, although I do feel not progressing further with our entire team is unacceptable.

It happens everywhere man.I'm not saying they haven't been handy players. But it's a bit sus that we recruit so many of Bevo's ex-hawks mates. The Tim O'Brien one was certainly a strange recruitment.
Incredible. JB corrected him quickly. So a full time AFL journalist seems to think we missed finals this year? Wow.
This is what pisses me off the most too, and by the sounds of things the players too if you look at what guys departing have said.I personally think our structure would be better with Darcy forward and Naughton back. From the 2 games, Darcy struggled to keep his man locked down. But all good if the coaches think this structure is best. What would kill me is if we train all summer with Darcy back and JUH/Naughts/Lobb forward, then in Round 1, Bevo decides that the forward line isn’t working and Darcy doesn’t have a match up, so he swings the magnets….

“The Dockers are keen to keep him, with the 26-year-old reportedly offered a two-year deal valued between $200,000 and $300,000 per year, according to The West Australian.
The outlet reports Carlton have offered a three-year deal valued around $350,000 per year, and lead North Melbourne and Geelong in the race for a player who has flourished down the flanks this campaign.”
If Acres can really be had for 350k/3 why are we not in on this? We’ve struggled on the wings for years to the point of running the likes of Scott, McNeil, McComb through there all year. He’d be a massive upgrade on that and someone who can add some running ability to get up & down, a marking target and a booming kick. We’re constantly trying to find that tall winger with the likes of Jong, Hannan running through there too.
Seems a no brainer?
Fremantle has indicated it does not want to lose both talls Rory Lobb and Griffin Logue in this year’s exchange period.
What’s the plan for Bruce?..
Personally I would use Naughton in defence. That would make a significant difference.
If Logue leaves and Freo refuses Lobb a trade, what is our plan B?
Even if so, that’s 2 of however many, in the 7th off season of an 8 year period at the club. And both were last minute inclusions due to vacating assistants during pre season.
We don't do plan B's. We want all our players to be flexible, then when the crunch comes, we don't utilise that flexibility. Esava Rategolea come on down.....If Logue leaves and Freo refuses Lobb a trade, what is our plan B?
It happens everywhere man.
McStay to Pies is orchestrated by Leppitsch.
Hodge went to Brisbane because of the Fagan link and then Birchall the same.
Heck even Dawson followed Ross to Fremantle.
Plenty of examples.
But will Naughton be happy with that? I think he loves the glory of being a forward. Not sure. I certainly don’t seem him regaining his 2021 form. 30 years old, recovering from an ACL, plus that was his standout year across his whole career. Probably depth at this stage.
I’ve been adamant to keep Naughts forward, but can see that it would solve a lot of issues sending him back, and considering the tall talent we’ll most likely have up fwd going in to next season, it’s a decision I’d be happy with if the club went down that path.

We're they the best candidates for those roles? Doubt it. That's the point. Decisions like that need to be made above the coach by a footy manager that has the guts to say 'this is the way it's going to be - end of story'. The coach is a cog in the wheel. Anyway, I've made my point...on with trades.

Don't show this to the Fremantle supporters on the draft and trading board who are trying to suggest that pick 11 should be included in any Lobb trade. The Dogs will have to pull-off a trade deal with the Dockers to secure Lobb and could offer a future second-round draft pick to begin talks with Fremantle.

I'm like you though, i was adamant he should stay forward, and i still think so, but i also think he could be a dominant swingman if bloody Bevo would move him around on match day if we are struggling. I remember a bloke called Adam Hunter at West Coast that used to tear us a new one every time as a swingman - i think Naughton should be that guy for us. If hes kicking a bag we are usually winning so leave him forward, but in games like the ELim final where he couldnt get near it, he should have been swung to defence
Yea trading pick 11 for Lobb is not going to happenDon't show this to the Fremantle supporters on the draft and trading board who are trying to suggest that pick 11 should be included in any Lobb trade.
They're trading pick 13 back.Yea trading pick 11 for Lobb is not going to happen
