Meh. First pick would've been absorbed by Jamarra compo, 2nd by Darcy compo and we wouldn't have had Dunkley for 2 finals tilts. Better this way

I don’t think we get to complain about both Brisbane failing to meet Dunkleys value and Freo’s unwillingness to accomodate a Lobb trade while he’s under contract.

Freo are within their rights to name their price or refuse a trade altogether. If we get it over the line, good. If not we stick with what we’ve got and back Bruce in to find his feet again as he did in 2021.

Lipinski isn’t cut out for being a pure midfielder at AFL level. Can’t handle the rough stuff. He’d be on the fringes with or without Dunkley.

Just for context regarding a couple of recent trades our board has been up in arms about:

GRUNDY: Went for pick 27. Pies only contributing 600k across the next 5 years. So the Dees are still stumping up what amounts to be approximately 950k a year for him given he is still owed in the vicinity of 5.5million.

HOPPER: Was owed 850k next year. GWS were happy to let Richmond pay that. He’s a good player but 850k? C’mon.

Looking at the numbers above let’s get some perspective. Yes, the Taranto and Hopper trades set the price precedent at around F1 + pick 21 but there’s always context depending on the trading and receiving club. Yes, Grundy would have been nice but FURK THAT SALARY. We can find other solutions. Would have killed us when bevo sat him on the pine for 50% of games anyways.

Doesn’t chase and cannot tackle. To watch him live off the ball is revealing.

I watched Lipinski closely this year (he was in my SuperCoach). He makes great decisions but lacks intensity, speed and never tackles. I reckon I saw him lay 1 tackle in the 7-8 weeks I had him in my team. He is a good supporting mid and can play forward but he's not a starting mid in any AFL midfield IMO.

Dunkley is 3 times the player he is.

I know he cops a lot of shit on here but swapping Dunks for Chad & Lobb would make us a hell of a lot better next year IMO (plus the draft picks)

I would be seriously interested in that, he would fit in really well in our forward line

We have won 3 finals since we kept Dunkley, and made a Grand Final. Essendon zero.
Let's not worry so much about winning trade week when we have the opportunity to win actual games of football.

They also never offered us two firsts for Dunkley. Dodoro was hellbent on trying to rip us off and get it done for one first rounder, then tried to manipulate the Treloar situation to his advantage. As usual, he was more focused on winning trade week than ponying up for a gun player with two years left on a contract. We absolutely, unequivocally made the right decision to hold him to his contract.

For some reason, no one rates Dunks highly enough to want to pay much for him.

They must have some serious cap space? If we’re paying some of his contract then I’d be wanting something half decent back from Melb tbh.

Getting anything for a package of Schach & Hunter would be a win though (so long as we get Lobb otherwise I’d keep Schache)

Then we could start to say we’ve really cleaned house this off-season
