Great pick up. Also unlike Jones who everyone wanted he has already proved he can transition from being a small mid to a small forward.

Hopefully with a couple of really big bodies around him he can rotate through midfield as he has spectacular hands and a very good footy iq.
What’s the knock on him then that would explain him not being taken earlier

That’s not a bad thing though

We’ve historically had issues shoehorning mids into a HHF role that they simply weren’t suited to - Partington, O’Neill, West, Winder, Masten, Priddis etc etc

At least this guy has played that role with some success so he can play as a half forward until, and if, he develops physically enough to run through the midfield more regularly

100% this.

I daresay the injury was a blessing in disguise. He was the second last player drafted, would he have even been drafted at all as a midget inside mid? Who knows, but I reckon the proven track record to play small forward clinched it for him.

To my mind the ability to pinch hit in the guts is now a bonus. Could be the perfect Willie replacement in that sense.

Agree! A forward pocket with natural endurance rotating through the midfield should have very few stints on the bench to rest. If he comes good, he could be a very important player

I think he did so well they might develop him as a small forward given how well he did. Still it's pretty great to have the potential to do both.

A midfielder with forward potential!

Wow.....how the Eagles recruiting team has evolved.

Hopefully he kicks two of every GOAL
Very churlish of me but part of me hopes he averages 2 goals a game while rioli does something daft again and port cant just sack him because they didnt put conditions on him so they are trapped in a contract with a non contributor.

Willi still get his coin - port get barried no lube

Watched a bit of his champs game vs Vic Metro last night, as I was a little hazy on him but recalled thinking he was quite decent. He really pushes up into the midfield as a small forward and helps out and pushes back inside 50 to be an option of crumb. I think we've got one here.

Very clean, evasive and good footy IQ.

Reminds me of Zac Butters for some reason - which is not bad at all
M.Abletts comparison to Caleb Serong wasn't a bad one. As far as size goes he's a touch lighter but the inside dynamism, touch and creativity seems on face value to be there.

They should've got Peter Matera to present his top, he lives up in Echuca now.
