To be fair to Britzoon he's been very consistent in what he's said all along over the last couple of years and (to me ) he wasn't melting ,just giving the impression he's always had re our ball movement.

Once the real games start we'll see whether we've been able to effect any meaningful changes. From what Fages said in his interview there's no doubt we're going to be trying to.

I don't think practice matches mean jack tbh but getting different perspectives is always welcome. No one knows everything . In fact in the words of JP Getty in most aspects of life no one knows nuthin'.

I don't know why some people seem totally unable to disagree with someone without denigrating them personally as if their opinion is worthless. Seems to be a constant theme.

Not that i want to share. I've only met him a couple of times but I know some of his past through friends & I draw my conclusions from them. Disagree with the way you describe him but everyone has an opinion and thats fine....I'm just voicing mine.

There are still quite a few players under injury clouds, although many are due back in the next fortnight. Former skipper Dayne Zorko (hamstring) is running strongly and hopeful of playing Geelong on March 2, while Darcy Gardiner (shoulder) and Noah Answerth (shoulder) are both expected to be available around the same time after off-season surgeries. Veteran defender Ryan Lester is still recovering from a hamstring injury and is three to four weeks away.

Who's flying
It's hard to look past No.2 draft pick Will Ashcroft for making a big impression. Chris Fagan has described him as the "most professional 18-year-old" he's seen, with the midfielder taking the Lions' match simulation sessions by storm. Zac Bailey has become a better runner and is in great playing nick, while second-year energiser Darcy Wilmot has also impressed.

Well, this is new
After playing most of his 87 career games as a forward, with a genuine dose of midfield minutes in 2022, former No.1 draft pick Cam Rayner has been stationed in defence much of the pre-season. The Lions like his ability to intercept mark and distribute the ball with his penetrating kicking. There's no guarantee he'll stay there for the home and away season, but something to keep an eye on over the practice matches.

Practice match: Thursday, March 2 v Geelong @ Brighton Homes Arena, 7.10pm AEST

Veterans Dayne Zorko and Daniel Rich must have made it a goal to see who could trim down the most during the off-season. Zorko, who recently turned 34, lost in excess of 5kg as he got through months of uninterrupted training for the first time in years before the recent hamstring setback. Rich, 32, took to a mountain of yoga and pilates in his off-season break. - Michael Whiting

I honestly thought Lyons was unlucky to not be AA in 2021 (or was it 2020 the memory is going?), But the game has shifted significantly in the past couple of years and the Lyons of those past years is not going to break through the current best midfield in my opinion. What he could provide is an exceptional super-sub option, to come on in the last 10-15mins of a game and replace someone who has dropped off.

Ahh the old “a friend of a friend said he has a shady past” sprinkled with some vaguely threatening implications.

All I know is that I would much rather have Whiting up here than most of the other footy journos around, who range from morons (Gabelich, Browne etc) to inflammatory shock jockeys (Caro, Cornes).

Viicing an opinion on who is or isn’t a decent journalist is totally fine and the sort of discussion you’d expect in a forum like this. Vague, negative allusions to “some of his past” told to you by friends is pretty low I reckon. He’s not here to defend himself and you’re impugning him as a person without any context. I’m not a narc but does a moderator have a view on this?

What about from his work though, isn't that what we are talking about, not his 'past'? What has he written / said that's led you to that conclusion? I am genuinely curious - journalism is very subjective so of course people will have different views. For example he is a bit predictable but i don't hate kane cornes. there i said it!

Incidentally I am not a huge Whiting fan, i think he is decent. But i find it strange that he is being targeted by a few people on here - he is very measured in any criticism of the lions, so much so i wish he could actually stop sitting on the fence most of the time.

We had Fagan blow up when Whiting called the Lions sub par v essendon last year - what was he supposed to say, oh great effort boys shame about the injuries? We were terrible that day and it was several senior players that cost us, along with the lead feet of the coaching staff (midfield getting smashed, Adams hobbling on one leg, Mathieson just watching on as sub - just baffling).

I just feel that Fages new the significance of the loss in relation to top 4 that year and would have been annoyed himself about the weeks events and Whitings comments flicked the switch for a temporary second.
Pretty sure that Fages would have realised that that situation was all on him.
