I don't mind Nicks. Tough gig to come into.

Would see where we're at by the end of 2024 before making a call imo.
I think we will know whether Nicks will stay or go before the end of the season. We need to win games. If we get to rd 11 and we are 2 wins then I think he will be moved on. But if we have say 7 wins then Nicks might be with us in 2024. I think we now have the nucleus of youngsters to be successful. Personally I do believe that we need a strong experienced coach with a decent game plan and not a inexperienced coach. Perhaps Buckley.

Whoever it ends up being they need to be a strong alpha presence or at least held previous leadership positions in football clubs, I’m sick of having beta leaders like Sando, Pyke and Nicks who have all been foot soldiers trying to wear big boy pants and have had a very little commanding presence as people and leaders to those of us peering in from the outside.

As an interest person in the subject Adem Yze would be a great fit.

I'm not sold on him. There has to be a reason why he keeps getting overlooked for senior gigs, his resume would read fine unless he doesn't interview well.

Strong words, I agree. I thought I was alone in this line of thinking in 2023.

Aside from obvious ability and skillset, having a strong alpha presense is IMO paramount to taking a Club to a flag.

Its not just about coaching a team, its being a leader of a Club.

Yes that's a good point but how long have McRae and Kingsley hanging around are doing well .
I have no idea who I want, but I am afraid Sundays game proved to me that Nicks and Van Berlo have to go.

Can we at least get rid of van Berlo?

Our centre bounce set ups are the same s**t as Campo had us doing. Even with peak Jacobs, Danger, Thommo, etc we used to concede too many easy clearances to the opposition.

quantity has been fine during and since those days. Quality differential always disastrous.

Nick's is on record as saying he was a believer in hard work over talent, until recently.

He's also said that he's slowly started to understand that you do need these types as well.

I think this is the right direction, but it explains plenty about how he's gone about it. Possibly a bit late though.

I think it will be Goodwin and I think he will fortunately inherit a list that will be ready to go

Just quickly though - what big moves did Kingsley make to turn the game around?

Ward in to the centre was massive. Green was cooked but Cogs was still flying. Ward is only 185cm, 85kg in his 16th season but seemed about the fittest on field. Ben Keays to the centre move could have been tried as the young guys tired. Would at least have made Coniglio work for his clearances.

He said that but then he picked Tyler Brown (actions louder than words and all that...)

just a totally flawed belief, but no wonder he got the gig. Aligns brilliantly with existing club philosophy. He's pure AFC, but is now finding his way out the door. It's the overarching philosophies of the club that needs to change. We keep employing the same coach.

Lets face it, Nicks days are numbered. the crows next coach cant be an untried coach. we need an experienced coach, but who? Do we need to throw big $$ at a coach already coaching? Bevo? Buckley? Leppitch? do we hold off until Simon Goodwin is out of contract? i am sick of getting a soft c**k coach and we have had a few of them..
throw some names about, who will it be, who should it be?
Goodwin, Hardwick, Yze, Buckley. Simpson will probably be sacked so he may be available as well.

I've asked the exact same question when we've turned around a deficit. You'll hear the crickets that I heard. People assume change in fortunes equals coaching moves or believe it to fit a narrative that Nix isn't the usual game day dunce that we're used to. A lot of the time it's purely a change to the amount of effort that players are putting in.

I believe that motivation is predominantly the senior coach's responsibility, as well as each player's.

Spot on.

With the game on the line - Nicks brought on our substitute to use him primarily as a tagger on Coniglio and it was a terrible terrible move.

Laird went head to head with Green and got absolutely smashed. Berry was absolutely invisible. Yet he kept them both in the midfield almost all game whilst our #2 clearance player from last year (keays) was kept out of the midfield. Blind Freddy could see that we needed to get our hands on the ball in the 2nd half.

sure, but that's different to saying that turned fortunes proves Nix made in-game moves, so isn't like previous coaches in that regard. People actually posted that and stuck by it even though they couldn't identify the positional changes.

So Ward went in due to Perryman hamstring- and even that was in first few minutes and we smashed them for the first half.

My point being Kingsley did nothing to turn the game. His Blue chip midfield did

I'm not sure if you really know what Pyke was like if you think he's a "beta".
No chance Buckley coaches us. Not even worth talking about.

Simpson or Goodwin could be a chance if they were happy to he in Adelaide but Bassett would be my choice. I would of given him the job ahead of Nicks.
I don't think Bassett is ever getting a head coaching gig in the AFL.
