This is an interesting article about population growth and its relation to the environment, but it also has other implications.

If this eventuates - and it is happening - then maybe low unemployment is permanent and maybe this is how some of the transfer of wealth from boomers flows to younger generations? Workforce scarcity is going to become permanent and put pressure on wages, and boomers and who ever follows is going to have to pay for the services they expect. Maybe this is how the wealth boomers have accumulated will be returned?

The obvious alternative is the government will pay for them - as usual - but that is not sustainable. Younger generations simply will not be willing to pay for it and we are already seeing those younger generations are now in control of the political debate.

the population time bomb has never been real.

  • there are more resources on the planet, as the grade of resources declines. This is the law of resource economics.
  • if we educate women and empower them through paid work, the opportunity cost of having babies gets larger. thus women stop breeding.
  • there is always more work than there is human resources. unemployment is a social construct.

The neoliberal capitalism model requires continuous growth or it fails…
Population has to increase.

Unemployment is used by the same neoliberals to keep wages down.

But population growth is going to fall. It is already happening on mass in China, Japan, Europe, it is approaching zero in the USA. It is going to happen.

More people are choosing to either have no family or smaller families for any number of reasons.

Population is never to stabilize around 11 billion I believe.

as grades of resources decline there are more resources

ie how many tonnes of iron exist at 80%, 60% and 30%? as each % the grade declines there is more and more resource available.
