Thought it would be interesting to look at our list and break it down into the different categories of kicking skills and compare it to the best teams in the league and see how they add up. Clear to me we have a dearth of ball users ahead of the ball.

Obviously, you can argue for and against some players being in the elite category vs average etc but I think for the most part that's close to an accurate list. Some half forwards aren't elite kicks in general but are very very good at delivering the ball inside 50 so I put them in the elite category.

The over riding inconvenient truth is the 2015-2019 generation have reached their limit. This list at its best is a 7th or 8th side. If the solutions were mono faceted it would be easy to change but they are not.

This is what I would do.
1. Cut the list hard this year for draft picks and some outside run and winning experience. Strongly consider trading out 1 star player for the right deal

2. Must get long term commitment from Sayers and Cook. If they bail end of next year, the conditional optional culture continues.

3. Replace Cripps with a do as I say captain, probably walsh.

4. Make a selection statement by dropping senior players. Maybe only 1. this week due to availability.

5. Rejig the assistant coaching for 2024

Voss has faults but Carlton changing senior coaches has been proven not to be our core issue.

The final point is we supporters need to stop comparing our club to the likes of Richmond 2016 and Stkilda this year. Those sides made finals and evidenced a winning committed culture pre their poor year. Losing is a systemic part of the Carlton Football Club. It will take a greater level of commitment and effort to change than we realise.

Cull the list hard? I’ll give it away if they ever do that again.

With our limited cap and an abundant of players not in the golden '23', some may want to look at other opportunities or more $$$ moving forward and may just leave.

We can already suspect;

Ed, Fogarty, Dow, Marchbank, Cunningham, Philp, Honey, Plowman may not be on the list next year.

Throw in TDK with a few huge offers, Sam Durdin could probably play in the 22 of some sides like North/GWS/GC so could be enticed to move on. Don't continue to play Kemp I'm sure someone else will give him a chance.

Then McGov don't think would be too impressed with a lowball deserved offer so could depart, as could Martin, and don't think we'll be looking at elevating Akuei or Mirkov.

That's 14 players right there who could possibly not be in our listed 46 next year.

So whether by design, intent or just from pure stubbornness to keep persisting with the same week in week out we may conceivably have a pretty decent list cull.

I’m going to be smashed to smithereens for mentioning this, because we are such a nice club…but Tarryn Thomas is exactly the type we should be looking at at HFF

He’d be cheap too, just saying

I don't know why people think 'mini rebuild' means we can't be competitive if we are good enough. I don't want to lose everyone but we have to be realistic about where we are at and what we need. I'm sure we thought we've been balanced in our list management in recent seasons but sometimes 'balanced' simply means you are not making the decisions you need to be making. There has been too much supplementing the list with 'more of the same' and us expecting a different result.

Can someone remind me what Swan's were asking for Papley back in 2019 and who we likely would've had to forgo drafting?

The pick we traded down for Kemp and Philp.

The issue was more that the Swans weren’t prepared to give him up until they secured Daniher from Essendon but that peanut Dodoro wanted 2 first rounders for Joe so the Swans held tight.

Papley is exactly the player we need however I think that ship has well and truly sailed given he re-signed with the Swans on a long term deal at the end of last year.

Yep Dodo ****ed us hard on that & then let Joe go for compo

Cunningham, marchbank, fogarty, dow, , Honey, ed curnow, obrien
Martin is lucky he is contracted to 2024
Try to Trade: Mcgovern, Fisher, De konig
At least 10 players or 25% of the list without
A) Trading a star for picks
B) considering Carrol or Kemp because we don't know if they can play.

Really? That's the reason you think people are going to object to Tarryn Thomas at Carlton? Because we're a nice club?

New half forward line is a must this off season, don't care how we get it done just need to find a way. You simply cannot play good footy in the modern game with half forwards who can barely find the ball when the midfield has about 200 possessions between them.
How many of our mids possessions resulted in dangerous forward movement of the ball?
Their numbers are padded with dinky kicks and handpasses sideways, backwards, anyway except forwards.

Carlton. Respects.

That would be a NO & surprised Norf haven't sacked him yet.

He's fat, doesn't train hard, doesn't turn up to the club and doesn't do the homework they set him.

That's ignoring the fact he's got a number of domestic violence, threats and now driving like a dickhead issues ongoing with vicpol.

Literally a waste of talent at this point

who Are you replacing with the new speedy/good users - retired players eg Ed curnow or are you delisting /trading some? If so who do think should go?

Will drag it here

There are enough players on our list to move on, without actually having to trade

A 1st round this year and a full book next year

Then a number of OOC and FA that have those attributes

If we decide to trade a player, for overs, so be it

Don't think a hard cull is necessary, but there will be a significant turnover

One or two players with actual value need to go
I'd go with TDK and Fisher at a minimum.

If we miss finals, a deepish turnover will definitely happen

Do you mean Cripps back to WA for pick 1 and another inside top 8 kind of deep??

What are you hearing??

On a playing personnel view: I'm not against it.

But I think it leaves us with a big dearth of leadership which is already a major problem

Not hearing anything that’s not around every trade time of year with Cripps. Just a matter of when and how much we’ll get for him. I think he stays for life! IMHO

As for any other player from WA, how many can we package to get an early pick!

Just get me a Cameron or Papley please Arr0w. Any goal kicking 3rd tall/small and we turn into a dangerous goal scoring machine…
