You do know if West Coast finish last, GWS are likely to trade up for Harley Reid using the pick you gave them for Hopper ...

No one is trading pick 1 this year.

None of that has anything to do with the question.
It does actually, they didn’t want to be there and now have 7 year contracts where they wanted to be. So no they don’t regret it.
As an added bonus we don’t regret it either.
But I’m sorry my answer didn’t reach to your standards. Honest. Disappointed in myself.

No if you look at it financially. They both are getting decent salary with long-term contracts. GWS had salary cap issues and a lot of midfield talent while Geelong and Collingwood were probably not going to offer either the salary/contract length that we offered them.

From a success perspective, Geelong and Collingwood would’ve probably been better options for them, but that was probably already clear when they were making that decision. Looks like their priority was financial security, which actually makes sense in this current economy. Richmond probably was attractive because there was a possibility of on-field success as well given our recent history.
Geelong was in to Hopper but wouldn’t match what Richmond offered

It's got nothing to do with the Giants, the whole point of the question is whether or not they chose the right club to move to.

Sure but the future 1st for Hopper is a worry. If it turns into a top 6 pick then it hasn't been worth it. Taranto's trade was fine
We will never know who we may have picked with the Hopper first rounder nor how they would have gone at our club, so best to judge it on how Hopper plays for Richmond over the life of his contract.

I have never rated guys like Taranto, Hopper, Shiel and so fourth. Always thought they were massive downhill skiers who only avoided criticism because they were up at GWS.

GWS has a history of producing really poor midfielders who don't stand up in the important games so if I would avoid trading for any of them.

You'd certainly know all about downhill skiers.

If WC get pick one I doubt they’ll risk drafting Harley Reid for him to want to go home after 2 years. It’s just not worth it anymore, not after the JHF debacle. Personally, if I was drafted to WC I’d be stoked. What a club to land at, but kids don’t think that way and they are a flight risk which you’ve got to mitigate.

The AFL needs them locked in for 5 years. 18-23. Your best years are 24-29 most likely anyway, by then you can go where you want got the coin you want.

That tells me why it was good for them.
Doesnt say why it was good for richmond though.

Tigers are going to need replacements for Cotchin, Prestia and Martin. They’ve got two mature bodies to do that. They’ve also got some decent KP replacements. Those two will be getting a fairly good wage. Win for both. Richmond will drop but that’s inevitable.

What KP replacements?
