Karma. Although we copped injuries last year the club managed it to perfection, and for winning a premiership that nobody thought possible at the beginning of 2022 we are paying the price in 2023.

How else can you explain the bad luck?
Muscle injuries perhaps a sprinkling of age and preparation, everything else random circumstance. There's an untested theory I have that sides with substantial injury lists are more likely to incur further ones. Players coming in underdone or too many at once. Others not being rested at optimal times or pushing through niggles. Extra exertion when the side are struggling but in a state of less cohesion. Could all be nonsense or there could be something in it. So I guess "chain of bad events".
Everyone will interpret text on a footy forum in their own fashion. But I don't see anyone getting worked up over the injury communications from the club. Nobody's burning their memberships in protest. Nobody's proposing a march on the club to 'take back what is rightfully ours'.

All that is happening here is that some supporters remain bemused as to why every other club can have a go at decent injury reporting, while the Cats just don't even pretend to take the idea seriously. It is absolutely no more and no less than that.
Commendable though because I don't think I could stay actively and aggressively bemused about something for this long. It is passionate enough to come across as pure frustration and annoyance. Bemusement comes with a sense of wonder that can actually be quite enjoyable - so maybe the GFC are simply giving you an interesting puzzle to work on.

It's actually commendable that you have the imagination to see my outlook on this as aggressive. As I've explained every time you choose to mock my viewpoint on this, it doesn't keep me up at night nor have me afflicted by conniptions as I contemplate the horrendous injustice of it all.

It just seems incredibly silly that the club carries on obfuscating in this area, when every other club embraces the simple opportunity to provide a decent measure of timely and comprehensive information to their supporters. So I suppose I'll go on pointing that out, and you'll go on suggesting that I'm losing my mind over it all.

Should be fun.

Thanks man. Its mine and several others interpretation of those kind of posts and may be completely wrong! As long as everyone's having fun.

Cam Guthrie - the reigning joint Best and Fairest winner - so a rather important player one would suggest

I reckon there was a period of about 5 weeks where i didnt read one single thing re his situation - there was no news - there was absolutely nothing - did not have a clue what was happening
Foot injuries are the hardest to give an outlook on. I've had them myself. 1 month or 12 - surgery or not - resurgery? Career ending? It's all unclear. I'm not surprised at all with how it's unfolded, nor have I been with Jack Henry's issues.

FFS now a partially collapsed lung.

It's just not our year, I am struggling to think of a worse year injury-wise in recent memory. And the ageing list is only to blame in a very small way. Just been really unlucky.

But yeah - when was the most recent year with a worse injury run?
We have been unlucky but our top end list is still ageing.

The creme de le creme would be if someone created a thread for all and sundry to post vent number 143 on the club's awful communication, and then this thread simply to discuss what we know or don't know about players from the info we DO get (e.g Dangers rib injury).

A man can dream.
But any update on something like Danger's rib injury comes in amongst the club's ongoing awful communication around injuries. With the GFC, it appears you truly cannot have one without the other.

So this thread then becomes an entirely appropriate place to bring the whole glorious mess together.

I guess, but we found out it was broken ribs, he went to hospital and there were posts on how others have recovered from similar situations. Some have had insight to turf toe, other foot injuries (e.g the Henry situation) and how recoveries are after various surgeries. And we do still get what AFL.com.au offers us each week, or the club does update, or we have guys "in the know" rumours or otherwise.

I guess we can just repeat the same old rant but I'm only offering this off topic diatribe myself because it's taking over the thread. To the point where it out competes the type of stuff from the above paragraph.

I do think a thread to simply generally complain about club communication would be a useful solution.

That's one possible solution, I guess. But given the responsibility for the inane practice of such erratic club 'communication' clearly lies with the GFC, perhaps you could contact them directly to take up your concerns?

In the meantime, I'll probably just continue to leave my thoughts here.

Likewise. I reckon we can clog things up pretty nicely to end of season. Of course I remain steadfast in adding things I consider productive contributions as well.

Angry letters are a great alternative actually. Since it doesn't bother me, I won't, but your rants would probably get read if you sent something to the club. Maybe I can help you draft something and we get a few supporters to co-sign it?

Thanks for that. If I ever get around to composing a rant (about anything at all), I might get back to you.

In the meantime, the fact you apparently get so bothered by the presumption that I'm so bothered is more than enough for me.

Unofficial (of course) injury update on some of the younger blokes…

firstly key to our future Toby. (By the way he is huge. Has grown 5cm since drafted). good news is he has had an uninterrupted block of 6 weeks full on training. In really good shape. But they are going to persist with training to build him up. Best case if round 18 in VFL. Some chance they just keep training right through (although unlikely now that he is doing well)

tanner AC issue has been around since GWS. Not severe so isn‘t ruled out for next week (although in my mind if he couldnt get the ball after being re hit in that area surely they get it right first?)

hopeful Neale back next week

willis foot injury is who knows how long (could be back next week or…not) (that sounds more like an offical update sorry. I should have said short or medium term)

jyhe surgery last week I think. Back end of year at best. Maybe put on ice

flynn unlikely to get a crack

good news is that Dempsey and Knevitt and Whyte remain remarkably good shape! Murdoch looks robust. little oscar back from training block. Phoenix looks like over any issues

sorry if I have forgotten anyone

Classic. This is precisely what a meaningful injury update from the club would include. So the information is available. It's just apparently not worthy of being shared with the supporter base by the GFC.

What a brilliant way to exemplify what it is us 'crazies' are getting so 'worked up' about. Put this info out (which doesn't change anything about potential return dates for players, of course) and everyone would give the club a big tick.

As it is, what CHAWKTS has done here only underlines how shoddy the club is in reporting on injury issues with the playing group. Probably won't change, but absolutely should. It's really not that hard at all.

Thanks for those updates. I think ideally tanner needs a rest but he was actually very good in the 1st half and him going off allowed us to get overwhelmed in contested ball-with danger out i think we might need to keep him going as the next 2 weeks will decide our season (unless we take the risk and bring hardie straight in). What i wouldnt give for a fit menegola at present.
