Can somebody please make sense of the possibility of picking Duursma for me? If we hold picks 2 and 3,my ideal choices would be McKercher and Watson. At least Watson has the ability to apply that forward pressure we desperately lack, plays in a position of need for us and is just as much of a game breaker (imo) than Duursma is, if not more so.

Add to the fact we have Taz, Zurhaar, Sheezel, PC, Ford AND Brayden George that can play in his position and I just can't make any sense of it. Can somebody please explain?? I know he's talented but that can't just be it. Am I missing something?

Yep, he’s kicked 70 goals in his last 20 odd games of underage football going at almost 20 disposals a game in the process.

With all due respect to Zurhaar, PC, Ford - You are talking about a guy with as much natural talent as Sheezel and TT who has been spoken about in underage football for the last 4 years.

You don’t pass on goal kicking fwds/midfielders or midfielders with contest bursting pace.

No matter your list balance.

The melts are going to be massive on other club boards when we go small for the first two picks though 😂

I hate when people play the 'Am I missing something?' or 'happy to be proven wrong' card as if everyone else is crazy for seeing something that they can't.

Duursma is a flipping jet and we would be lucky to have him

I can only go by my own feelings and until now I've prob always judged him a bit on his brother.......but I've come around to just how bloody good he is. I think through realising that Curtin might actually slide a bit, going from media reports etc, so i watched Zane's highlights again. He's smooth AF and pretty flipping quick too.

Zane Duursma is a 189 centimetre half forward flanker. We have 100 of those. There is absolutely zero chance we take Mckercher and duursma. Zero chance.
If we keep 2 and 3 the Kerch/Duursma exacta would be favourites right now. If there is 'zero chance' as you say I am happy to put a 100 on it at 1000 to 1.

15 & 18 to Cats for 8
17 and F3 to GWS for 7 and Haynes

Bid on Walters
3. Curtain
4. Watson
Bid on Read
8. O' Sullivan
9. Caddy
?. Small defender with last pick

The only possible exception id make is McKercher for Watson.

We nail our 4 most required spots with players that are rated at the spots we take them. We don't need another high half forward. We have Zurhaar, Thomas, Sheezel, George, Ford, Curtis, Stephenson, Taylor and Harvey for those spots already with an expectation that Simpkin should also get ready to play there too... Because our midfield is also stacked. LDU, Wardlaw, Simpkin, Phillips, Powell, Thomas, Scott and we've just traded for Fisher and Stephens. Midfielders are available every year. We can nail our KPP at both ends in 1 draft with genuine prospects this year and also nab a game changing, x factor small forward we've been crying out for.

Imagine a team like this in 3 years

Zurhaar Larkey Watson
Thomas Caddy George
Scott Simpkin Stephens
Goater Curtin Sheezel
?? O'Sullivan Logue
Xerri LDU Wardlaw
Phillips Ford Powell Curtis

Stephenson Fisher Harvey Archer
2024 first- Top 5
2024 second- Top 25

Be nice if McDonald can refind that form as a decent BP but won't get my hopes up. Anyway that's my dream draft

3 and 7 gets us pick 1, if we want it, IMO....9 is drifting out of the WC range for me
Agree with that, just wanted to provide an example, if we use 7 then its Nick Watson, 8 is O'Sullivan

GWS @ 7 - Could be a part of a Hayes Salary Dump but not guaranteed
Gee @ 8 - Could be 15 & 18 - may get used to get Lord (Doubtful) but Gee have expressed the possibility of splitting, maybe to get Lord
* @ 9 - Could be used to get Duurssma? Excessive but Port may look to upgrade to Gee Pick?

And rangy, he must have a decent wingspan for his height because he clunks contested grabs all the time.

Quick
Skilled
Athletic
Strong
Kicks goals for fun.
Dominated pretty much every big game he's played in.

If we've already got Sausage, well, he's the Hamburger with the lot..

He’s so much better then his brother

I reckon with the 2024 draft supposedly midfield dominant, that the other clubs will cannibalise themselves trying to get early picks to spend on the the best midfielders whilst we smoke our pipe and pick the eyes out of all the best Key Position Players available..

I know you're not sold on Son of Kerch's skillset Duck, but gee his incredible pace coupled with a large tank would be a perfect fit with Wardlaw, LDU and now Fisher and Stephens.

His left peg doesn't look that bad on the run.

I don't think we can go wrong with two of Reid, Kerch, Duursma and Curtin..
Kerch cant kick mate. DGAF.

I don't think it would be worth the cost of upgrading to 7/8, if you look at the trade in isolation, if we didn't have the good picks we had, would we do that trade? It kind of cheapens the price we paid to get Port's future first imo if we hock it off so cheaply for an upgrade.

I think the only reason we would go for it is because West Coast want two top 10s for 1. Isn't there a big drop off from the first 6 to the next tier?

As much as I like Reid, I like our current hand. I wouldn't do anymore trades unless the next trade is a multi-club trade that includes 1 going to us. Port cashed in their future 1st for Rata and now Geelong said it isn't enough.

So if the club thinks this is the next 2009 draft and Reid is Dustin Martin then you would rather have Morabito, Rohan, Sheppard and Butcher? :stern look

We don't have a crystal ball, we kind of have to trust those at the club have a better understanding of how good the quality of this draft is.
Martin went 3, yeah? We have 3 currently.

I'm coming around to Duursma. Maybe it was his brother and or position (we don't need another mid/ forward) so I didn't look to hard into him.

Duursma looks like a gun. The marking, his balance and goal kicking are all elite. Don't mine the Burgoyne comparisons. If he can get the versatility that Burgoyne had (star in all 3 zones), Clarko would absolutely love him. I can see why the Hawks are unset.

Maybe because I’m interested in American sports I find the best available trope baffling. If you have a good quarterback and the top of the draft is full of quarterbacks you trade down to create value in a position of need. We will end up having 30 top 10 draft picks on our list that are all mids or half forward flankers. I would love north to manufacture a pick in the 6-10 range to get one of the key position backs. I wouldn’t mind trading 3 for 6 and 11 and take both key backs.

Yeah I think you are right. Just heard on the radio that Xavier burst onto the AFL scene and was tough and fast and super athletic but injuries have slowed him down. I might go and look at X’s pre draft vid, just to see the difference between him and his brother at same age.

Haven’t watched any of them this year, but i thoughts Duursma could hack it as an onballer against others his age this year (hence his slow start)? Don’t really want to spend a high pick on a HFF…

That’s an interesting call too. So you mean Curtin and Sully?
