So yes to Charlie Constable and Lachie Fogarty. No to SDK and Max Holmes. Got it!Come on Wells, no bolters please we already have enough speculative talent we need at least 1 top end youngster from this draft.
Which is funny given how skinny scarlo was as a kid. He wouldn't draft himself and would probably think he's a dropkick. We would never recruit a skinny guy like sdk
If Melb take Caddy then it seems almost certain that Curtin falls to us unless WC are prepared to trade their FF to GWS to secure him.
If they don’t offer that trade up (if they don’t offer it to GWS, they obviously won’t for us - unless GWS knock back the offer which I think would be unlikely) then we are faced with a choice of taking him or trading back with another team for a later pick plus FF you’d think.

Thr tale of the man who projected his own youthful deficiencies onto others is one that is well told in all eras and all placesWhich is funny given how skinny scarlo was as a kid. He wouldn't draft himself and would probably think he's a dropkick.
It was mentioned on gettable... the early pick teams would prefer to take the kid and get them into their system etc.... so it probably gets down to how much they like a particular player.. or how they rate WA talent next year V Curtin.
If he was there do we take him or trade the pick? Its a conundrum. Curtin could be "(Could)" ... be another Pavlich type ... and I lost count years ago how often I wished we had him in our side.....
Why would WC consider trading their Fr1? WC would have to be odds on to being 2024 P1. Have seen the talent next year and the first WA kid may be late R1.. and would trade it for a top WA kid? this year?
For us ... I wonder what happens if we did have it. it would make next years trade period interesting.
I like the idea of trading out but it's worth considering all 3 of your targets there were considered very late draft types until people started doing phantoms and realised that there wasn't anyone else.I am hoping we trade 8 out for a premium to adelaide.
If they want to trade up so bad we go 8 and 25 for 10, 14 and 20. Maybe swap our F2 for their F3 to make them feel like their not being completely shafted.
I would then chase the pair of tassie lads, our local boy and a couple of talls with hopes at least one comes good.
10 - Leake
14 - Schoenmaker
20 - Stevens
76 - Wil Dawson (Utility Fwd/Def/Ruck 200cm)
87 - Evan Smith (Raw Ruck/Fwd 201cm) or Vigo Visentini (Raw Ruck 204cm)
Elevate demp
Agreed here... Only seen a bit of him but I see him getting plenty of handball receives because he is a bit of a designated kicker.I like the idea of trading out but it's worth considering all 3 of your targets there were considered very late draft types until people started doing phantoms and realised that there wasn't anyone else.
I personally think Stevens will likely get found out for pace at senior level though I could be wrong. I'm also concerned that Schoenmaker is listed as KPD but I don't think I've really seen footage of him defending, just linking up at half back/wing. I also haven't looked that hard so maybe I've missed it. If you told someone in July you'd take Leake in the first round you'd get a bunch of blank looks as people try figure out who you're talking about.
I have prepared consensus power rankings for October based on Rookie Me, AFL (Cal Twomey), ESPN and HUN power rankings

With the reported trades that other clubs may be willing to offer WCE for pick 1, there's been a bit of discussion over the past day or so around having multiple picks in the teens & that it sounds better on paper than in practice

Maybe something for us to remember when proposing trades for multiple picks in the teens
If find that to be a lazy comparison, the situations of those teams isn't remotely compareable to where WC is now
So yes to Charlie Constable and Lachie Fogarty. No to SDK and Max Holmes. Got it!
I'm not sure they're trying to compare the situations between the two teams mentioned & WCE, but more a tale of caution (for all) that what may seem a good opportunity on paper doesn't necessarily work out that way
3 bites of the cherry sounds good, but it's also multiple opportunities to stuff it up

History repeating itself?Schoenmaker will be a bust.

Schoenmaker will be a bust.
Not convinced that Stevens will make it either.
When you look at the top contested players in the league, I reckon only Cripps was a known contest beast as a junior.
Often these players started as more explosive half forwards or mids, and then translated that into a contest when they matured at AFL level.
Even the great contest warrior, Joel Corey, was more a runner all round mid when he was drafted.
I have big doubts on these types in the draft.
The Swans Kennedy and Cripps would be the big exceptions off top of my head.

Disagree. Tom Green, Clay Oliver, Andy Brayshaw, Brad Crouch, Jack Viney, James Worpel, Josh Dunkley, Jack Steele, Luke Parker, Jack Ziebell, Ben Cunnington, Ollie Wines. There's tons of examples of draftees that were contested beasts that carried it into their AFL careers.
Green and Oliver went at very top of draft, as they were brilliant and dominant in all areas. Put Rowell in that category too. Viney was also a high class junior. That proves my point, to make it as a contest player in the AFL you have to be very very good.
That is the level required to make it in those roles and I don’t see Stevens being at that level.
Dunkley is also a freak athlete and can defend which has got him where he is.
