The Eagles want to be able to pick up McKercher and Curtin.

Potential four-way trade:

WCE
Out: 1, 23, Future 2nd
In: 2, 8

North
Out: 2, 3, 17, 18
In: 1, 6, 11

Melbourne
Out: 6, 11
In: 3, 18

Geelong
Out: 8
In: 17, 23, WCE Future 2nd
I don’t think we’d want to part with that much tbh, also we’d want 6 instead of 8 to get Curtin.

I don’t see how this happens though with Leake and Windsor pushing up clubs draft boards. Twomey mentioned we packaged 2 of the teens picks and didn’t get any bites, I can’t see us getting another top 10 tbh.
Have been saying for a while now a top 10 pick will be difficult to get out hands on. I still think Swans 12 and Saints 13 could come into play however I suspect this is more likely to happen on draft night if we've still got 15, 17 & 18.

Very interesting interview!! Get a great insight into Watto's drive and a reason l reckon Clarko would want him. Then you have Harley and very pogniant about his home life...and there's a special mention to a certain North player - great interview and if we get Harley, we get Watto;).

So Watto likes the jumper numbers 1,5,7, and Reid 4,6,9.. So Watto get 7 it would be inhumane to give him 1 and Reid get 10 as all others are taken if both players end up at North..

How is Leigh Montagna the smartest man in the room
He’s not. He’s as stupid as the rest of you. He says our list is at a stage where we can target 1 player. Then seconds later he says WC need multiple first round picks to plug up holes in their list. News flash… we have got ****ing holes!

We have lost half our back line.
We don’t know if we got a ruck.
We don’t know if we got a chf.
We have no small pressure forward.

If Philips and Powell don’t work out we are pretty much skinny at every position on the field except for medium forward.

GWS has a list where they can narrow in on one player
Melbourne has a list where they can narrow in on one player.

We are nowhere near it.

2 weeks left to discuss these picks swaps before closed til draft night where i doubt they make a trade 30seconds before reading out their pick

they really should reduce it as 2 more weeks is unnecessary
Disagree, the AFL would love a bid when we're on the clock. I reckon "IF" a deal was struck the AFL would ask us to keep quiet until draft night.

100%

Need those teens picks to help plug them

Not trade them all away for a one pick upgrade

Anyone know why the **** we haven't gone after Fergus Greene? It's probably been touched on already but the man can move, and had some decent games this year. Seems a no brainer if Comben's getting thrown in defence

I don’t think you’d want to blindside your fans at the last minute

Before nov 10 makes more sense

Time to digest and evaluate options

Don't get me started on the 'points value' of trades.
The points value system is okay. I just think it's flawed when discounts are involved.

Give clubs access to their academy players across the board in any round, no problem, but make them pay extra point value at say +30% in round one, +20% round two etc etc.

Clubs shouldn't have both 'access' and 'discount' associated with players.

No points deficit pushing into the following season - period.

GC will get Walter, Rogers & Edwards arguably at 2, 9 & 14 or a points value of 5417 add the discount and they essentially get pick 16-17 credited points value. That's rubbish.

Adding a cost of early access means they need to fork out pick 7-8 in points value & trade accordingly.

As an example, we have pick 2,3 and Sanders is a solid prospect as our academy investment. If say Essendon bid on him at 9 we would have the ability to match the bid +30% or picks 17 and 18 in this years draft but gain another 'top 10' player, albeit at a cost.

I'd be more than happy with a Curtin, McKercher, Sanders + whoever.

Nobody wants to trade out of the top 10 at this point. There might be an opportunity for a live trade if someone sees their target has been taken but that it won't happen before the night.

If 15, 17 and 23 gets you pick 7 or 8 - so does 15, 17 and 18.

If we engineer a third top 10 pick - we use it.

We'd have 3 top 10 picks and the Eagles would have one.

Why would we give that unbelievable competitive advantage away to move up one spot in the draft?
Only if we see or feel that the top pick is worth 2 top 10 picks?

At this stage in our rebuild (IMO), taking someone like H.Reid is worth 2 x top 10 picks if we can get that and keep a 15/17/18, as the pressure to succeed at NM is far less than it will at WC as he is complimenting the talent with have drafted in 3 years.

At NM, he'll walk in as the no.1 pick but there won't be that amount of pressure from our fanbase like it would at WC thank in part to Sheez and Wardlaw's stellar 1st year which is now at such a high bar that the Sheez has set for a 1st year player. Conversely, he'll walk into WC with the expectation of a whole club and a rebuild just starting.
Calling it now.

Reid never develops the fitness to play full time midfield.
He's never going to be a 100% midfielder plus he can develop that during the course of his career..his strength will always be is versitility either 40% mid, 30% fwd or 30% back or wherever they need him.

I couldn't agree more with this. I can't understand the constant claims that West Coast need extra picks and we should be giving them some of our picks. We will never get five early picks again and we have 7 list spaces available so why give most of the picks to West Coast- after all it is only a few weeks since they beat us. Perhaps I am still put off by what happened the last time we used pick 1 for a "generational player"!

Greene is only 186cm, he aint a key forward. He offers nothing we don't have with Zuurhar, George, Curtis and probably Duursma.

Genuinely shocked to see he's that short. He plays like someone 5-6cm taller. Puts paid to that then. CCJ, come on down 😑

I wonder where he starts.

HB and move Sheezel forward? Play them both off Hb?

Maybe forward?

Agree (not that I like the academy system full stop) but at least this is fair. Also prevents other clubs from false bidding - they won't be so keen to do so knowing that the academy club might not see the same value in them, would encourage true value bidding IMO.

Is someone selling bags of ice cut with crushed up bits of light bulb?

LIKE I TOLD YOU Paul Maley's son and we're pre-listIng Sanders

Pick 11 PP in 2021 & GWS taking a dump and giving us Haynes.

He had some info early days on al clarko and seriously has had zero, zip and zilch since. Absolute donuts, but them crazy BFers hang on his every word.

I like the lad though, makes me laugh.

Looks like Ethan Phillips is heading to the Hawks instead.

AFL Hawks hope for departing Borough backman

Paul Amy

Port Melbourne’s Ethan Phillips is switching VFL clubs, in an attempt to win an AFL spot and keep alive a remarkable streak for Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal winners, writes PAUL AMY.

The VFL’s 2022 Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal winner, Ethan Phillips, is switching clubs in an attempt to win an AFL listing.
Phillips, 24, has signed with Box Hill Hawks and will train with Hawthorn during the pre-season.

The 197cm defender finished fifth in Port’s best and fairest this year, averaging 17.6 disposals and 8.6 marks from 18 matches.
He was runner-up in the Port vote count last year, when he took 147 marks at an average of 9.8 a game and became the Borough’s fourth Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medallist.

Every medal recipient from 2006 to 2021 graduated to AFL ranks but clubs overlooked Phillips at the 2022 drafts.
He said today it was “really disappointing’’ but he hadn’t given up hope of extending the medal run.

“I’m not going to let that rest,’’ Phillips said.

“I’m going to make sure the streak doesn’t stop with me. I want to keep it going. I’ll give it my all in the next couple of years. I’m coming to some peak years. I’ve really matured. I’m really looking forward to what my footy has to hold.’’

Phillips signed with Hawthorn-aligned Box Hill last Friday and informed Port Melbourne officials on Monday.

He said it was difficult to leave Port, which he joined in 2019 after coming out of the Oakleigh Chargers.

Phillips said the Borough were a “bloody good club with some rich history, but I had to make a selfish decision in the end, to do what’s best for me’’.

“Pretty excited to get stuck into the Box Hill program,’’ he said.

“I think it’s a good move. I think it’s going to take me to another level as a player.

“There’s a little opportunity to have the exposure to the AFL over the pre-season and that’s good to have that there. But I’m more excited with the Box Hill component. They’ve got a really good program there.’’

Phillips assessed his 2023 season as superior to his recognition-filled 2022.

“Statistically it wasn’t as good as last year but when I spoke to ‘Skrob’ (Port Melbourne coach Adam Skrobalak), we thought I’d become a better player.

“I played a different role. I was playing on the No.1 forward every week, whereas last year we were more trying to free me up for intercepting.

“But my intercepts were only slightly down compared to last year. I definitely thought I was a better player this year.’’
Phillips may not be the only key Borough leaving the club.

Because he's a medium forward, about the only thing we don't need. Plus he's already not worked at two clubs, thats gotta say something.
