Ok so let eagles come to us about trading pick 1 now, we’ve made our intention clear we want it but aren’t giving up anything ridiculous. Balls in their court to work a compromise otherwise things remain as they are which is fine

Focus should be on getting gws pick 7 or cats pick 8 this week and next

I really don't think either of those picks is on the table until live trading on draft night. Once each club knows what's available to them at their pick, the phones will be ringing. And likewise, we can decide how many of our picks are worth trading for the player that we can select with 7 or 8.

We aren't trading next year's first, so can drop that from discussions I reckon.
The only way I’d entertain it is if the eagles f1 is on the table.
could help them in regards to assistance next year, they couldn’t be accused of tanking without their 1st pick next year.

Ralph's information is clearly fed. It's either a message to our supporters not to get their hopes up, or a desperate negotiating tactic. My guess is the former. With our relationship with the Eagles I'd be surprised if we resorted to trying to spook them via wreck it Ralph.

Once it became clear that the Eagles wanted McKercher, the entire idea became a lot less enticing. I wouldn't be shocked if that's also how we felt internally. I supported the trade on here, but we were always in a can't lose position.

I've stated before that McKercher will be the best first year player next year. If you try to list attributes that make a player transition to AFL quickly, then McKercher basically has all of them. It makes a Reid trade interesting as the other party knows that they have to deal with the immediate backlash of a McKercher rising star campaign. In the long run trading for Reid may work out, but giving up a king's ransom for Reid only for McKercher to win the rising star could get Rawlings fired before that ever eventuates.

Reid will probably be decent early, but with his tank and repeated niggles will probably produce something closer to JHF's first year, as opposed to the otherworldly years that we've seen from top picks like Walsh, Daicos, Ashcroft, and Sheezel.

Hence the reason why we shouldn't squander picks 15, 17 and 18 in any deal with WC before draft night.

I can already see Fremantle coming hard for one of those picks to get ahead of WC for Collard or one of the other WA kids floating around that range.

Agree, but nevertheless could shake the tree a little and force WCE to the table to actually say what (if anything) is acceptable. My understanding is they haven't flat out rejected earlier offer of 2 and 2 teens picks for 1 and 23. If we start talking with other clubs re another top 10 pick can at least pressure them to negotiate beyond the "give us all your picks" for 1.

I'm intrigued. What can Fremantle offer us?

Over 200 here, granted know only half of that number. I'm still the only one from those I've met, majority are Geelong, Collingwood, Richmond and Carlton. Thankfully the only Ess supporter here; retired and thank * for that 🤣 Still wear NM merch to work most days to fly the flag as a F U
I was wearing my NM lanyard with my work pass around my neck until it broke, spent a bit of time working near the Gabba during covid and got to know a few of the lions boys pretty well.....not a day went by without a bit of gentle heckling..."tough year for the roos mate, why don't you buy a Lions membership"

Well if WC do go for McKercher, less pressure on Reid to perform like a P1 JHF and have the same amount of pressure as a Sheez or Wardlaw...and if this duo back up their second year who cares if McKercher gets rising star..hell have to beat at Watto after he kicks 30+ goals for us (l'm worst than Nostra on Watto):p

Yep, armed with 3 x 1st rounders next year, Freo could easily give up Collingwoods F1 for pick 17 or 18 if they wanted to nab any of the top WA boys aside from Curtin, before WC pick

yeah i reckon they try trade collingwoods future first for our pick 18

still gives them 2 firsts next year for mcdonald

I don't understand to be honest why we would trade out pick 19 to GC for pick 18 (17?) this year and then trade it straight back into 2024 for likely pick 18.

The first trade ceased the 'review' of the priority picks. We might decide on draft night if we like who is left and/or someone else makes an offer (it need not be Freo).

Gives another pick in the top 20 next year? Instead of 2 & 22 we would have 2,18 & 22 in 2024 (using current standings).

Reckon both teams won't be aiming to be contenders next year, so how the new draftees perform next season isn't that important.

Will be nice if there is instant performance but not the end of the world.

And I think both teams are better served going with what they've got at the top end of the draft - with possibly trying to upgrade lower picks if targeted players slip down the order.

They'd have to give up 34 this year imo if its Pies or Port F1's.
