Reserve your judgement until the final 2 rounds, pies fans. I know we played like the Broady 3rd's tonight, but it's not all doom and gloom.

The games against Sydney and Adelaide will give a true indication of where we are. Both of these sides are in finals contention, and we have beaten them both already (impressively too).

If we can win these games it will give us the momentum we'll need in the elimination finals (forget top 4). Lose both and its curtains.

Do you agree? Discuss.

PS: The Melbourne game will be a tight hard contest as well, the dees will wanna win for Neita's 300th

hate to say it ..but we are sliding downwards along with the confidence.

and getting worse by the week .

i'll be keeping my betting money firmly in my pocket - if we played like we did 3 months ago then Adelaide, Sydney,Hawthorn, Brisbane even West Coast i would've looked forward to playing and have plenty of hope as well.
not now, nope.

we just lost against the bottom team ..in fact got smashed ! ..next week we play a team which ,for some reason..seem to beat us far to often , no matter how low they are on the ladder ! ..infact - i think we've already lost that game already .
we are struggling to stay in the 8 , let alone to beat the top 3 teams !
mate , it's curtains !

like i've always thought ..the final 8 should be scrapped ! ..and introduce the top 6 !

5 would be even better , but we have 16 teams these days & not an odd number

It's only a small consolation though, because really by playing finals, all we're playing for now is finals experience. It's been proven time and again, you need to be in the top four to be a contender.

With our percentage, and our form, we will not be in the top four, we will be making up the numbers. That's why we're disappointed.

ABSOLUTELY

This is the real disappointment of the night. Top four spots are hard to get and that is where flags are won from. Next year we all start even again dont assume it will just happen for us in the next couple of years.

To blow a golden opportunity against the bottom side is what hurts.

Lets not forget, at the end of the day they had won 1 game all year. We have now lost to Melbourne AND the Tigers in one season when we were fighting for the 4. Not satisfactory by far!

sorry i dont agree if we cant beat the bottom team whether or not they were fired up  its disgrasful when you start to need results to go our way you know your in trouble like West Coast losing to the roos and hawthorn losing to brisbane both can happen but they shouldnt have to

Yeah not happy. I had a bad feeling about tonight and it started when I saw the team sheet last night.

One thing that I was thinking about today and it was confirmed tonight was the fact that our season hasn't been that convincing and maybe we were just making up the numbers in the 8 all season.

I was reading the topic about Mike Sheehan and someone said we need to murder teams like Geelong do to get the respect of Mike and thats when I thought geez, we've haven't actually done it this season.

We've played good opposition and won narrowly and got applause for it but the next week we play poor opposition and again win narrowly (bar the Melbourne, Richmond and Brisbane games where we actually lost).

The much touted run home included Brisbane (thrashing) and Richmond (embarrassing loss). I don't fancy us on form against the Swans. Melbourne have a better group of mids then us. Adelaide may or may not come to play. Finals is no certainty.

Good points, and believe me when I say I'm as bitter as anyone.

Getting beaten by the bottom team that's 1/16 is hardly the kind of form needed this time of year. In fact the last 3 weeks have been terrible. :(

But is the top 4 really out of reach?

I had these teams losing 2 more games.
WCE (Kang, StK both at TD)
PA (Haw in Tas, Geel at SS)
Syd (Bris at Gabba, Coll at the 'G)

According to the Ladder predictor, this would place us 4th behind Geelong, Kangaroos and Hawthorn. One game clear of 5th.

Now I know our form is horrible at the moment, but if we can (somehow) reverse the slump and win the final 3 games, the top 4 is a shot.

Its a big ask, but where there is life, there's hope :thumbsu:

One day a team outside the 4 will get up...I'd like that to be a Collingwood team...where there is light there is hope...and beside there is nothing wrong with finals experience...hell of a lot better than the other option.

It sucks that Nathan Buckley is coming back into a team that threw our premiership shot away already. :(

QFT

The man has struggled all year to get up and nearly plays tonight, only to sit on the sidelines to watch us get thumped. My heart goes out to him.

i suppose raveneyes ...anything is possible....but the fact that we are relying on other teams results is just not good enough....bitterly disappointed...our inability to string 2 or 3 games together has really been a huge worry for the 2nd half of the year...and we have lost to some low strung sides....shame....

Consistency is a huge problem for us, we haven't won 2 in a row since round 10 (correct me if I'm wrong).

Summing up, my points are

1. We have been ordinary for the last 3 weeks, we need to pull out of the slump NOW.
2. Find consistency and WIN the final 3 games.
3. Check the ladder on Sunday Sept 2nd and hope for 4th.

At the very least I expect 5th-8th and a finals win, I'm sure we are all tired of the end of season fadeouts.
