How the crows are umpired. Half a dozen players grab Cumberland around the throat but don't give away a free. Seems legit.

I commented on this last night. Happy for the free to be paid against Cumberland in this scenario, even if it is a little bit soft to reverse a shot on goal. But how can the umpires then justify that they allowed a player to be contacted high and thrown to the ground by his gurnsey without another reversal? The actions of the crows players here are significantly worse than Cumberland. Is it in the rules to allow open slather on a player who has given away a free kick?

Well Hinkley was last man standing, outside Walsh our assistants are second class. Both sides have had a small anomaly in good assistants but overall it’s poor.

People say we’d love Yze, Hardwick, history says they’re unlikely to come.

The fact Keays, Hinge and Keane are such crucial parts of their system but were bargain basement recycleds says a fair bit about their drafting in itself.

I don’t know what magical feats the likes of Jones and McHenry pulled off to be drafted ahead of Butters, Caldwell, Quaynor, Clark; and Duursma, Rowbottom, Sparrow; respectively, but yikes.

You don’t need to be a grizzled old scout to quickly surmise neither passes the eye test as anything more than a late-round/rookie pick at best.

It’s hard to properly gauge this thanks to the Donut dynasty. We’ve just been out of the market for so long.

But before Ken we stuffed up the opportunities to get both Hardwick and Chris Scott. Voss was here for ages though, Richardson was decent too.

Schofield and Monty came and went because they didn’t mesh with the Donut King, which probably explains in part how we’ve arrived at our current roster of uninspiring assistants.

Anyway my point is that the “SA factor” is not insurmountable and our jobs for the boys is a symptom of the siege mentality that’s gripped the place more than anything else.
