Of course not, wouldn't suit the narrative

ha ... that expression these days, "the narrative", it sounds like it's some mythical creature ... "oh no, it's the narrative" ... "uh-oh, duck! it's the narrative!", "if you hear something behind you at night, it's the narrative"

I feel like the reason tags aren't working on Heeney, Warner & Gulden is because teams still haven't really figured out what it is that they want to stop with us.

Our midfield is Grundy, Heeney & Rowbottom. They are the contested core getting first use, clearances, possession, territory, all that jazz.

Our midfielders include, but are not limited to, Gulden & Warner. But they are really half forwards/outside runners who just start at centre bounces, and then do most of the damage in the forward half and on the scoreboard.

If you want to stop Gulden & Warner, then putting a tag on them at stoppages won't do much, as that's not where they're doing the most damage anyway. It would require a genuine defender playing on them when they're in the front half. Can't do that or you let our actual half forwards off the chain.

Stopping Grundy or Rowbottom would do more to kill us at the source, but it's hard to see a coach putting time into stopping these two when the other three are around.

We're literally a mind **** for opposition coaches.

to me, warner sits just off the contesting packs and makes himself available as a first receiver, almost a rugby-style set-up, but it's definitely as a midfielder ... he does frequently drift forward and is a very effective, even high-marking half forward

Huge upside left for the team.

The forwards Hydra whilst very effective still haven’t fully clicked. We saw signs from Joel on Sunday how dangerous that can be when it does. Imagine the 3 of them clunking big marks and converting in finals.

Mills/Parker - when fully fit are massive ins. Hard nuts, organisers, leaders and good tacklers / hard ball gets. Mills in defence might allow others to be unleashed more often. Blakey is like the Ferrari in the garage at times. Free the Liz, lol ! They can also be used potentially to support JJ with tagging:

Paps/wicks and Will. We’ve only just seen Paps get off the chain. their forward pressure is also building nicely.

Finally, they’ve been at times playing the rope a dope / Rocky Balboa style where everyone throws everything at them early then are gassed out by the second quarter. I expect them to start hard, build a massive lead and break other teams along the way.

Bullish !

This.

Our starts have also reminded me of the incomparable Muhammad Ali.

Just what caesar88 and I were chatting about late last year and hoping we would see more of with he and Gulden providing devastating entries. And now Heeney as well. Incredible.

So Warner, Gulden, Heeney and probably Blakey locks in the side at this stage, with watches on Hayward, Rowbottom and Grundy. Reckon Papley could start to nudge his way into contention too.

Paps would have to set the world on fire in the second half to make it. Hasn't been overly instrumental to our wins up until last weekend.

Media personalities select the AA side.

If someone writes a glowing article hyping up Ollie Florent (for example), it becomes a bandwagon & he’ll suddenly be “in the AA mix”.

It’s what’s happened with Rankine.

He was actually one that got mentioned as well.

I don't blame the ground for my negativity.
For me it is the realisation after many GF losses, that having to make our way to Melbourne on the Thursday for the parade & sleep in foreign accommodation for two nights, while full of anticipation, unfortunately must have an impact on how we come out for that game.
I won't stop believing this until I see a 50/50 split between interstate & Vic teams over a good sample of Grand Finals.
I say we ditch the parade (sorry to Melbourne based supporters, but it has always seemed pretty lame to me), and instead fly down day before, stay in a hotel near the MCG, and then do our traditional walk to the ground. Especially if we are playing a Melbourne based side.

Let’s have our own parade on our own terms!

I do get a smile when the comments after our Cats game is basically - 'Swans are giving away 4 goal leads for giggles now'

Haha I've made this joke to my wife the last few games, that we're so far in front that we're starting games slow on purpose just to add some interest for how far back we can come from.
