Anyone care to discuss why we took Charlie Edwards at pick 21??? I mean this spud wasnt invited to the National Combine even though he had an amazing 2km time trial of 6:24 (only 13 seconds behind NED!).

Struggling to understanding the reasoning that all these draft experts have. I think the answer is that they know jack sh.......t, but waiting to confirm.

I don’t know , if it was me and not one club including the crows had given me a guarantee of being drafted I’d finish off the last 5 weeks of the season to get to combine ( especially as I’ve only been invited to state combine ) , PB not even needed . Just in reasonable shape and able to get somewhere close to prev results and look the part physically … like a guy that’s about to start a pre season next month

To me this summarises why the Vics and even allies ( due to academies ) are way more advanced than SA kids these days

JFC. This isn’t that difficult a concept. We aren’t comparing Tyler to the general population. We are comparing him to his peers, you know, the people he will be playing and judged against, having regard to the professional competition they all aspire to be playing in.

And his peers shit all over his time from a great height.

You’ve clearly never played football, or have any idea how badly fatigue affects skills level. No point being able to football if you’re too tired to be able to compete.

And he won’t be standing you or I - he’ll be standing players who can chew through the kms and will punish him.

It’s laughable that you think his times aren’t concerning from a fitness perspective. And it’s even more alarming that he would let himself get to this position before he’s even drafted while under our clubs umbrella all year - a huge red flag for his attitude.

Do I hope he gets it right? Absolutely. But he’ll be coming from a long way back, and there are now valid concerns about whether he’s committed enough to do so.

What a terrible take. What does a 2km time trial have to do with how a forward can succeed at AFL level.

Shit - we spent two high end draft picks on players with elite 2km time trials (Ned/Jones) and they both turned out to be absolute spuds.

1980s and 1990s VFL/AFL may as well be a different sport. He wouldn't get a kick in modern afl.

He quit school to focus on footy. So effectively full time.
How much of the AFL program he's done I'm not certain, but he had clearance to be in our sanfl side so presumably had access to full club program and resources.

If he hasn't then that would be disappointing.

He's a top notch talent. Kicks like a mule, good tackler, high level contested mark, knows when to lead, can play CHF and FF equally well and does things very few footballers can.
But that's not enough in the AFL. You need to be fit enough to make the above happen.

Right now Tyler is no where near it. Which is why he's in conversation of not getting drafted instead of being a top 10 selection which by his talent he should be.

Both Lockett and Dunstall, despite their big frames ....were extremely quick over the first 5 mtrs ....it gave them a distinct advantage in the day

It's a poor look. I'd be shocked if we are asked him to tank. It sets a fairly poor set of standards.

I think Tyler is in for a shock next year. He has known for a few years he will most likely drafted but in the AFL world that is only step one. As they always say from day 1 everyone is even. Your AFL career can be over quickly.

He has been with the team all year - surely any weight issues or attitude issues would be addressed by now?

Sure, but the assertion from combine sceptics always seems to be that Lockett, at the condition he was throughout his career, would still dominate. He absolutely wouldn't. He's a hell of a lot fitter now than when he was playing.

That's the discussion we are having here with Welsh. Supreme talent, but can't run.

Early 2023 he was running on top of the ground and looked a top 5 talent.
But he did his back in late that year and looked a completely different player.

I don't pay too much attention to times on wooden floorboards .....how many games are played in straight lines on floor boards

Grass is an entirely different surface ....I was really quick on floorboards / asphalt in runners

Besides, if he's being taken by the Crows, what has Welsh to prove .....except up the cost to the Crows
