Part 6 is over there:

I found two blue tongue lizards today. One was big and fat shuffling around in a garden bed. My cat was curious so I helped him to hide under my back deck. The other was a small one in my shed. I heard they help keep snakes away but I don't know if that's true.
Urban myth that lizards keep snakes away. Also your fat blue tongue may have been pregnant it’s that time of year for them having babies.

Have landed a small consulting gig this week, hoping it can somehow take off as a side gig (ie slush fund)

Owners putting a brand new hot water system in.

But not til tomorrow. Lucky its not winter i guess.

Two years ago we scheduled the replacement of our gas hot water with a youbeaut heat pump system, prior to installing the solar panels. It was all going to be done the week after we got back from a month in NZ.

Eight days before flying out, the gas hot water shit itself.

All cold from then on. Fortunately I still had the factory so we could shower there.

I'm now on full electric at my place and I love it. Put a new got water system in at the start of this year (got 20 years out of the old one), it's an off peak system that shuts off during the day. Good investment

After installing the solar panels, ours is on a timer and heats up between 10am and 12pm when its pretty much guaranteed to use electricity from the roof. It'll switch on at other times if the mid-tank temp drops to 35deg, but it hasn't done it in two years and I'm pretty good at the long hot shower lark.

Edit: This is the crowd we got it through, and it uses a Reclaim heat pump. Bit more $ but Mrs Post is very green credentialled and we didn't mind supporting local industry:

whats your unit for hot water?
i was just doing some reading and when the call comes from my agent for my house, i think ill get a heat pump rather than electric instantaneous
Everhot. I hadn't heard of the brand before the plumber suggested it, manufactured by Rheem.

I went from electric instantaneous to gas instantaneous at my last place when the original unit packed it in and it was a game changer.

I am on board with reverse cycle heating/cooling but I'll be hoarding gas bottles if gas water heating and cooking ever gets phased out.

The Victorian government banned gas connections for new dwellings from January 1, 2024. I doubt they will phase it out for existing properties.

Nah, all my boss said was to keep the meetings out of work hours. It's a condition of the contract that I can't speak about my current employer anyway.

I think that's why I got asked, I have a lot of experience in a particular industry and my latest role is outside of that so I can speak fairly freely.

Can't light a ciggy off an electric hob.
Wouldn't that just be like lighting it off an old school cigarette lighter in a car?

Can report this went well, and wasn't a video call either so my attire of jacket and shirt with tracksuit pants and Asics wasn't required.

If the extra $$$$.
You open up your own ice cream shop ..😂.

im hoping they swap the instantaneous gas to an instantaneous electric. then i can forget about gas bottles

at my own house, which i have tenants in, i expect a call at any moment regarding the gas hot watersystem as its 10 years old. when it goes, i will tell plumber to replace with instantaneous electric and the house will no longer need gas for anything
At the house where I am currently renting/long term house sitting, my mate has brought and electric webber bbq and every steak, fish, burger, snag has come out being pretty ****ing elite.

Its consistent and no ****ing around.

Do miss the smokey taste of smoking meat though.

buy some liquid smoke to drop onto meat while cooking

An electric weber? Wasn't the point of the weber the fact it was a charcoal bbq?

On a similar note I just purchased my first spit and I'll be doing my first cook next weekend. Just ordered the lamb shoulder for it. Can't wait.

I might need to look into that.

I have been compensating with using stubbs BBQ sauce (goes really well on Kangaroo meat)
Marinade or just put it on afterwards?
Roo is great but if you screw it up it's leather. I use the mince as well.

Afterwards for burgers, marinade for chicken.

It is a very delicate dance with roo meat, I have yet to try Roo steaks and snags, confident with burgers though.
