Just go GA and find a seat. Wherever you fancy on the top or bottom level. MCG holds 100k and there will be 50k there so near enough to 50k seats to choose from (ignoring AFL and mcc members)

Only star Simon Black (322) has reached the mark for the Lions and if Zorko can play 23 times in 2025, he will join the three-time premiership player and Brownlow and Norm Smith Medal winner in that club.

Not able to read the article but note Zorko on 277 with Neale on 272,
Footywire agrees with those numbers. So, they are Home and Away games

Maybe the HS are looking at the 300 club which is different to playing 300 games.
That might be how they get Neale to 300.

I get as far as the 3rd paragraph before I crack the sh!ts.

Fair dinkum, they should be "equity" and "fairness", not to mention "transparency".

Every season, at the end of week 17 (which I believe is now week 18), the average NFL fan sitting on their couch at home immediately knows exactly who their team will be playing next year. And I think they even know where as well. The "when" is obviously determined later but genuinely you can barely get more transparent than that.

That's a benchmark we can only dream of here while we are still mired in this desperate quest for "viewership and attendance" instead. It's backwater bush league stuff.

Case in point. The dust has only barely settled in the 2024 regular season, with the playoffs kicking off next week, and already every team knows it's schedule, home and away, for next season.

This is the pinnacle of transparency in world sport, and what we should be aspiring to here in Australia.

With shortened pre-season, players still coming back from injury, Big O may not be available early in the season - we may have a 2024 type home and away run here. Loss/Loss/Win/Win/Loss/Win/Win/Win. If we get to 5-3 after round 8, that'll be par in my opinion. But Collingwood beat us both times last season and they're comfortable playing Gabba so we could drop that one too - putting us at 4-4. Pessimistic run would be a 2-6, with us only winning against West Coast and Richmond.


In the second block of 7 games I'm hoping the list has settled and we are closer to everyone available and hitting some form. I hope a Win/Win/Loss/Win/Win/Win/Loss might be a realistic outcome. 5-2 optimistic, but if we drop both Adelaide away and GWS home then its a 3-4 return. Leaves the season at either 10-5 (5-3,5-2) or a 7-8 (3-4,4-4).


Last block - if we truly hit our straps it'll be a 8-0 run (yay!). Or we go on a Win/Loss/Win/Win/Loss/Win/Loss/Loss 4-4 run placing us somewhere around the 14-9 or 15-8 (if we beat the Pies) mark for the season.

We could end up in the same situation as 2024, finishing in bottom half and see where we go from there.

I got this from the club:

"Regarding opening round. Our tickets will go on sale In February. You will receive an email notifying you of this. On your lion’s app you will be able to go to the events section and swap your tickets for select seats."

There was a small release in December for public that I could see but only a few sections.

I have no idea who the HS predicted the loss to.
However, the Lions have lost 4 opening rounds in the last 5 years so maybe it's the Cats.
We need to rectify this losing start to the year, but the Cats will be a hard game to win.

I would be happy with a 5-1 start to the season even if it was a loss to Eagles or Tigers.

Not that I follow these things closely but say if a betting company were in a tipping comp, are they winning it by a margin or have about as much a chance as any half decent tipster?

Maybe join the Lions or BigFooty footytips competition and pick the bookie favourites?

Some more models have come online at Squiggle and so we have some updated forecasts. The most notable change from our point of view is that we are now forecast to lose to Hawthorn in Melbourne. Which I think is far more in line with general expectations!



Overall our expected wins have fallen from 15.3 to 14.7. While I would like to think this means even the number crunchers are trying to write us off already, that doesn't quite look to be the case; the expected wins for all the top 4 teams have reduced, being apportioned primarily across the teams outside the top 8:



Despite that extra loss in absolute terms, the models now have us with the most expected wins out of all teams, with Hawthorn sliding from 14.8 wins (1st) to 13.0 wins (4th), despite an increase in their expected % (and ours as well).

Elsewhere, Collingwood's extra 0.5 wins moves them from 9th to 5th, and similarly Carlton's extra 0.6 wins moves them from 11th to 8th.

On the flipside, Port lose 0.5 wins to move from 5th to 12th (!), while GWS slide out of the 8 despite not losing any expected wins (still 12.2 as they were at the last update).

Those are the only expected changes to the top 8 at this stage. Frankly I think I preferred the previous top 8.

Further down the ladder, Melbourne rise from 14th to 10th with 1.2 extra wins. Not too much other change of note to ladder positions at this stage.

I find these predictions interesting, i don’t understand how they work though. However just generally thinking about teams strengths and weaknesses, I can’t see GWS falling out of the eight. Arguably the best defence in the league, very good mid field group, number of dangerous both tall and smalls forwards and plenty to prove after last seasons finals campaign. Glad we only meet them once at the Gabba.

I think i will just take the 2 losses and 21 wins as my guide from that
On a serious note, i usually have looked at our likely win/loss record but have not done that yet.
A lot will depend on our ACL group getting games and playing well even though we have good depth except for CHF.

Last year i had us winning enough games to make us finish around the 4-6th mark as i thought the top 8 sides were evening up a bit. Could be more of the same this year so we don't want to have unexpected losses to the bottom 6 sides.
