Not much for me to report because my boy was acting like a real sideswipe!

- They stepped up the competitiveness from last week and the intent seemed to be territory from contest. Nothing clean and it was real match scenario training. The experienced guys pretty much ran the show.

- Aside from his size McGuane did not look out of place for a kid 6 months shy of 18. I’d love him to find another couple of inches, but I don’t think it’ll be an issue if he’s willing to put the work in like a Neale or Jaicos.

- I don’t love how Ryan trains. It may be nothing, but he comes across as taking the mickey like Steele or Markov the thing is Steele has a 15 year body of work behind him compared to Ryan’s 15 minutes and that’s Markov’s shtick.

No Reef that I saw, but the numbers are good from what I’ve heard v the rest of the league with Mitchell, HH and JDG obviously the other concerns. Naicos looked to be at the same point as Jaicos and JDG from last week so my guess would be he’s in full training next week.

Reef was on my side, the aami park side for a while. Did some running, then went inside mid way through. Hopefully he isn't having symptoms. But I'll see if he is there tomorrow

Yeah, I'm not concerned about Mcguane either. He'll add to his size, but it doesn't let him worry him. Fitted in well with the boys.

I think most of us are surprised it’s taken so long to try him on the backline; the position he may be most comfortable playing.
I thought he was looking promising in the forwardline to be honest - we just never gave him a full game of it. He'd often come on as sub late and kick a couple, or kick a few and then get subbed off.

Agree, but from what Ive seen so far, this backline move may look even better. Sometimes its easier to see the play in front of you and the ability to set up the attack from defence.

There's another renegade apostrophe - "father-son's".

Great to hear...Absolute gun and a fit DeGoat can take us along way to getting back to the ultimate prize....🐐🏆⚫⚪⚫⚪🏆
Keeping him fit is another thing. I can't recall the last time he played a full season

Pre-season training. - January 29
9:30am.

Pretty much a full squad this morning minus mitchell.

  • Pendles came late, and did his warm up by himself, did some run throughs with Reef before joining the main squad
  • Reef did some running for about 45 mins before going inside. Hopefully he is there tomorrow and is able to do more.

There was focus on pressure, tackling drills. Fundamental stuff. Line groups as they did some fight 1v1 drills, then their own specific focus drills they do.
In the last part of the session there was full ground and then half ground match sim type things. Also senarios where fly would yell out "1 goal down with 20 seconds to go."

+ Josh is back in full training. With the half backs. It seems people don't believe this is what is happening. I do think there will be a fair amount of players that will rotate positions, probably just to make things unpredictable for the opposition and give the team greater flexibility.

+ Jordy said he would be spending time in the midfield and forward, which is what we assumed would happen when he was coming back from that injury.

+ I thought Oscar Steene was quite impressive today. You can tell the size he has put on and how it's aiding him. He looks stronger, not just in the air and in the contest, but also in the ruck duels with DC. Fingers crossed he can keep healthy this year, as he did lose a year of development in 2024.

+ Nick was involved in most of the drills, even part of the match senario before going inside. He seems fine, and they are just easing him back into more loads as he is able to handle. I don't think it'll be too long before he too is in full training.

+ Jordy too was pretty much full training before he left the track. I suspect come tomorrow and friday, he'll resume.

+ West - For someone his size, he is very agile at ground level. Just scopes up the ball like a small forward, and moves so easily around players. Has a lot of attributes this kid.

+ Hayes - Kid keeps impressive with his ability to go into the contest, and then know what to do with the ball when he wings on the inside. Isn't seem afraid given his size.

+Cochrane, I've been impressed with his running ability, pressure and makes good decisions.

+ McGuane - He certainly doesn't look out of place. While Nick played at half back before going into the midfield, Tommy will be the opposite end. He'll play half forward with his knack of being able to impact the scoreboard. Its where he has been training this week. No way are they putting a 17 year old in the midfield. Had a couple shots on goal, one didn't come off his boot as he would have liked, but the other was from a stoppage as he moved to create space for himself and snapped it with his left foot. Two more sessions left for him before he goes back to school on Monday.
