Which is a large portion of them.

It was a stupid thing to do, theres no other way to paint it.

But he didnt deserve to be dropped for it.

Nah, i had no problems with it. It was funny, port players were asked to feign outrage and they held back smirks. No one took it seriously, Port just used it to get under our skin and it worked because we are weak minded. Port have done and said a lot of stupid shit to us every showdown and not once has a player been suspended for the stupid shit they say.

Would love to puff my chest out but truth is I was watching from the car with air con on full blast. ;)

Can’t do the same at Elizabeth or Richmond though. One of those days at centrals was pushing 40, fun times.

Training started at 8:45 and finished slightly earlier than usual, about 11.
Do you use binoculars? Genuine question.

Nankervis is in that blindspot level of experience/runs on the board that our club just never sees. We always get amnesia over summer with these players and send them back to square one, usually in favour of a player who has runs on the board, but whose form was very poor the previous season. We then take 6 weeks before we realise the error.
I personally love what Nank brings, but to be fair the players he is competing against are all valid selection options that can justifiably win a spot.

How can that go wrong?

Can a player get negative CBA's? If they can and you can bet on it for round 1 then I am going to be a millionaire.

Edit - just saw the clip. Interesting to hear he isn't going to stop celebrations after kicking goals. Be very interesting if he gets suspended for it again early in the season.
He didn’t really get suspended for celebrating a goal as such. More like the type of celebration….

You had no problem with it because you're not a Port fan. The last thing you want to do is give your oppo any sort of motivation, first rule any coach will tell you

If we are so weak minded we wouldnt be beating them more often than not. I'd say its the mob down the road who are weak minded, theres plenty of evidence to suggest it.

What was clear was that Nicks and the Leadership group tried to get ahead of any potential backlash over Racheles showdown antics in the face of the loss and decided to throw him under the bus after the loss as the main reason. The fan backlash I think caught them all by surprise. They clearly thought fans would buy the bullshit like they normally do.

So in the face of the backlash I would be surprised if the board didnt have a very strong word to the leadership group and Nicks that they need to grow a set of balls and stay together as a team. Dont throw players under the bus for a loss. It was pathetic and im sure some of Dawsons and Lairds statements are something they truly wish they didnt make.
The board doesn’t get involved in on field stuff. Unless the board member also has a football department role.
The board's responsibilities are to: 1. Establish a governance framework, including a compliance framework to ensure the organisation meets its obligations. 2. Set the strategic direction to help the organisation achieve its purpose. 3. Oversee financial performance of the organisation.

Good players find a way at lower levels.

Given his relative lack of footy experience before he joined us, he was an intriguing prospect and theres still a little bit of time. He would want to start ripping games to bit though.
Weird. The post you’re quoting says it was written by me but it wasn’t. I’m not sure which player is even being discussed.

The club claimed it was a series of incidents regarding his "team-first values and standards" and then weeks later awarded him a top 10 finish in the B&F

He also gained 30% of his B&F votes after round 16, so there was no drop off in how the coaches rated him on game day. The club basically said Rachele wasn't upholding standards, then weeks later confirmed he actually was upholding standards.

Complete and utter lie to suggest it wasn't related to the celebration

The club definitely weren't on the same page when explaining to the media why he was dropped.

You had the coach saying it wasn't because of the celebrations.
Then you had Dawson saying stirring up the opposition fans doesn't help the team win games of football and Laird saying Rachele 'carried on with it' after the interview.

Of the 3 only Dawson was moderately acceptable.

He can say what he said, but not to the media.

Justifiable if you are Nicks. I'm not so sure.
Laird is questionable, but sure, I'd give him first crack based on his history. If he plays there like he did last season then he's gone real quick though.
Milera? Not a F'ing chance. I wouldn't even consider him until he's played half a season in the SANFL and is in peak form.
Smith? Should not even be on the list.

Outside of that I guess it depends on how you structure the team. Cummins? Hinge? Dawson? Do they play back or wing?

It's tough, but I think Nank offers something a bit special and it would be detrimental to our future to hold him back now.

Possibly, yeah.

They did a good job of all getting on the same page. If it was a lie, it was the same thing said by everyone involved.

I didn't love the public statements and felt it should have been kept in house - but Rachele seems to have taken another step forward with his professionalism and preparation this off season, so whatever you believe happened it doesn't seem to have done anything negative to him.

Sure they did. Fantastic job.

Cummins plays cricket I believe.

Milera appears to be close, you've also got Jones and Sholl. Sholl in particular had a pretty strong year last year.

So which is it?

He got suspended for a celebration. He has now said that he isn't going to stop his goal scoring celebrations.

Has Nicks realized he was an idiot for dropping him for a celebration and the club has acknowledged that they handled the whole situation terribly?
Again, don’t be facetious

There was a very specific reason he was dropped, that being a very specific celebration. It was a bullshit reason and he shouldn’t have ever been dropped for it, but there was a reason

Lyon likes to give the impression he knows a lot, but obviously doesn’t

People give Kane/King shit for their terrible takes, but at least they somewhat do their research
I don't know.... I mean, isn't it actually worse if people actually do their research, gather the facts and evidence etc, and then STILL produce those sh*t takes? At least ignorance is an excuse 😛

Seems to highlight the shortcomings of our list management when we have such vast depth in some areas and absolutely none in others. Maybe we can give Nank a go in the ruck.

So why won't it happen again? Do you think he has to get his celebrations pre approved?

What happens if he does a Ginnivan style celebration (not aimed at fans, but definitely very self focused and not team oriented).

I think they do it deliberately to get reactions. No longer convinced they believe anything they say.

If we are winning and he kicks 40 goals and regularly gets 15+ possessions, I don't think it will be mentioned

We don't have vast depth in some areas and absolutely none in others. Its actually looking pretty even as far as lists go.

And to be honest - we don't really know if we have depth.

The positive for 2025 is that we have a pretty clear Best 21 and I very much doubt any posters would disagree that these players should be / will be in the starting lineup for Rd 1.

B Max - Murray - Worrell
HB: Hinge - Keane - Cumming
C: Peatling - Dawson - Soligo
HF: Rachele - Walker - Fog
F: Keays - TT - ANB
R: ROB - Crouch, Rankine

IC- Laird, Sholl, Milera

That leaves us with 2 spots to fill out of hopefuls: Nank, Curtin, Draper, Jones, Murphy, Berry, Schoenberg, Smith, Butts, Cook, Taylor, Dowling and Bond.

For the first time in a long time - we have a clearly defined top 20 players. A couple of additions and youngsters to come on and a real push for a flag in 2026 is anything but unreasonable.

Ahhh makes sense. Should be pretty easy.

Kick 40 goals (which only 18 players did last year) and get 15+ possessions regularly.

So as long as he is Toby Greene (44 goals - 15 of the 24 games were 15+ possessions) he can avoid scrutiny.

Good lucky Josh.
