bigman did you think peatling would be 4th or 5th (with rankine back) on the pecking order with what you had seen PS. Was very supprised today to see him down the order in the cba rotation

To the naked eye, I would’ve had Peatling in the top 3 for cba’s? Will be interesting to see some stats (if they exist)

Quite happy if Rankine spends extra time forward.
Going to need some pressure down there with our talls.
Rankine will play a good 50% on ball, which means both Dawson & Soligo play a bit more outside compared to today. We will play 1 less permanent wingman.

I don’t expect he would for selection and match day, but he would recruiting, list management, key appointments, the big stuff. Which ultimately impacts selection and match day if you help recruit and re-sign a useless coach.
Don’t think I have ever seen Roo on the team that goes and manages the national draft. Thats live on TV. Reid is the GM of List Management and Strategy. But Roo was on the panel that appointed the coach. Is that impacting selection and match day? Theoretically yes. But its a long bow to draw.
By the way AFC board members are volunteers. Other than expense reimbursements, they don’t get paid for that role.

The only reason people wanted to link Roo with negative selections and coaching strategies was to excuse Nicks in their blind hatred of Roo.

The order would be very flexible. If he is genuinely killing it, im sure his time will improve. But a midfield of Crouch, Rankine and Dawson as a starting one is going to be hard to shift from the outset. Obviously form dictates and that can change quarter to quarter. But its great for depth. Its not going to hurt us.

Agree. Tackling inside 50 has been an issue for us.

Swapping ANB for Murphy should help. ANB's pressure is elite. Last 4 years:

2021 - #1 for tackles inside 50. 19th in AFL for tackles with 111 for the season.
2022 - 31st in AFL for tackles with 105 tackles
2023 - 19th in the the AFL for tackles with 118 for the season.
2024 - 22nd in the AFL for tackles with 117 for the season.

We have so much goal kicking power down there. TT, FOG, Walker, Rachele and Rankine are all extremely dangerous forwards. Then you still have Josh Jenkins Ben Keays being a pest out the back.

Lol, don’t think I said Roo attends the draft. But as heading the list management committee you don’t think he’d have a say in how much we’d be prepared to pay players and recruits? If not he sure went into a lot of detail on MMM as to why we didn’t pay McGovern enough to keep him. Also why we let Greenwood go even getting into a Twitter argument.

Roo went and got Walsh.

Roo as the football director would have a big say in who we select as coach, football ops boss, head of recruitment etc. If he chooses poorly that does impact selection and team performance.

“By the way” Gees thanks for the insight, I didn’t know they weren’t paid, what a lightening bolt moment for me. By the way that’s irrelevant.

I think Roo has a lot to do with the coach hires. After that, I think it steadily decreases.

Is Rankine a pressure player though?? He'd be there for goals is imagine.

3.4 tackles (top 35%)/18.8 pressure acts (top 10%). Percentages indicate where Rankine is compared to small forwards.

Rankine has become a player that is fantastic at everything you want out of a small.

If only we could clone him and play as a permanent mid and the other as a permanent small forward.

That would be the dream, though I wouldn't sleep on Rachele as a permanent small forward (nor would I be worrying about Rash as a midfielder). Built nicely and is due a breakout campaign into the top tier of small forwards.

Thought I saw Peatling in there more than Soli, but had Crouch and Dawson for top 2.
Didn't realise Crouch had so many CBAs as he's less noticeable. Soligo had many CBAs in the first half and absolutely dominated. I didn't see him get many (if any) in the third quarter. Soligo was at the back of the square running through at the centre bounce in the third from what I recall.
