Collingwood are anything but shoe-ins, are they in trouble?

You know that they're competing against other athletes also not sleeping in their bed right?
Correct, but for a large number of Olympic events are individual events, and competing athletes are able to break personal bests when sleeping in hotels.

Surely if sleeping in a hotel had a negative impact on performance you wouldn't get people setting personal bests at Olympic games, they would be set when back at home during training when they are in their own bed.

Are you daft? The poster said I was unsure that none of Richards, LDU and Rowell would go to Collingwood, I said no, I’m not unsure.

Which generally doesn't happen.
They’ll only need one or two of those 30+ crew to really drop off or be injured for them to fall away, like they did in 2024.

And if Hawthorn lost a couple of its older players it too would struggle.

So your point applies to all teams. Not just Collingwood.

No, it applies to Collingwood more in the context of them being the oldest team in the comp and ignoring the draft. I’m not sure why you continually ignore the risk of a team looking like it’s too old for a potential candidate to risk jumping to a side whose window is either already closed or closing very soon.

They desperately need to play finals this year or their strategy to top up will blow up in their face.

They have 1 top 10 draftee on their list under 28 who is obviously a top end talent, but where are the others? Where’s the exposed talent to replace Pendlebury, Steele, Mitchell, Howe, Elliot, Cox, Mihocek, Crisp?

I saw a Collingwood poster name Ned Long earlier as a Penldebury replacement. 😂

The chance of them being able to attract top end young talent via trade or FA(LDU, Rowell or Richards) if they are an even older list and not playing finals is slim to none compared to a bunch of side who’s window will either still be opening due to the age of their list.

Hard to imagine the biggest club in the land with the league's most magical player not being able to attract talent, it's a fantasy

And generally speaking host nations generally see a significant bump in the medal tally compared to others

You might get some lesser lights like Lipinski, but if I was a top line player looking to jump to side in the premiership window, I’d want to see more than a reliance on a single “magical player”, because if he goes down, then what?

Misty clubs need to play finals otherwise their strategy isn’t really working.
More so for the oldest list in the league, looking to show potential recruits that they’re not about to fall off a cliff.

Pretty basic logic, I would’ve thought.

Hang on, weren’t you chasing him just a few posts ago?

Somethings not adding up here…
I don’t know exactly what the Pies are doing obviously, but I’d bet on us picking up one of those three or someone better using the coin from any retirees at the end of the season.

If Matt Rowell is being truthful about not leaving, then I’d wager that we’ve spoken to him and told him we likely aren’t willing/able to meet GCS’s trade demands.

Lol. Rowell wants to go to Collingwood but he has to stay at the Suns coz the Pies won't stump up. You think thats more likely than Rowell just being happy on the Gold Coast?

Nah we'll keep getting top line players like Houston and Perryman, this is Collingwood [emoji106] permanent contention

This is some next level delusion.

Rowell could take his pick of the Melbourne clubs but because Collingwood spent their trade capital on Houston, he's suddenly happy at GC?
Maybe his interest wasn’t necessarily about returning to Melbourne but playing for Collingwood specifically?

Well, he's met with Chris Scott, so there was definite interest in moving to Geelong.

I'm unaware of him meeting anyone from Collingwood and the only expressed interest there is from Collingwood's side, as reported over the summer.

My concern for them is that you simply can't get enough talent in via FA and trades to flesh out your best 22, because those traded in will invariably cost more in draft capital than you could get at the draft.

They're probably attempting to stay contending like Geelong have had but the difference for Geelong is that they continued to draft and nailed many late picks.

Collingwood are about to have a mass exodus of senior players and simply don't have the young talent pool to do what Geelong have done.

I get the idea of why they've done it but the base they're starting from will be their downfall, IMO.
oh well.

Maybe it gives the Eagles a chance to finish 12th over the next 5 years.

None of those players have quality AFL exposed form. Hasn't Jiath only played one game?

It's very shallow at the pies, evidenced by their horror VFL season last year.

I like the aggressive approach to winning it this year, but I think it will fall apart due to injuries.
I'm sure you have a handful of kids that would love the opportunity to play in black and white stripes....

You clearly are not, so you have little to no clue what a top line player (and his manager) hopes to see at a club.
Collingwood are always contending, so the chances are, if you play for the Pies, you will play finals.

Now for the uneducated, there is life after football and the more informed players are well aware of that.
Playing for a club like Collingwood, has its benefits in this regard.

You seem to enjoy constantly pushing your guesswork as fact, when in reality you are just somebody with a keyboard trying to deathride a club, with the hope that you will be right.
Hey even somebody that picked Richmond to win in every game last year was right twice.
Your "I think" and "I thought" comments may eventually get something right but lets be honest.
You dont really know anything and your thoughts are a guesstimate at best.
