Lots on First Crack about the Crows:

  • Leigh M thought it was our time and went thru additions and compared to late season team last year (10 changes - all positive). We are primed. Saw us play Lions in the PS. Mentioned our hard draw last year. Expects a big season and to get off to a flyer. Kingy mentioned our midfield looked complete different
  • Kingy mentioned TT is beast like and could have said he was like no other player in the competition (semi distracted when he was speaking) in terms of body size. Could kick 50 this year as our go to man with better supply coming in
  • Someone else said Tex now third fiddle. Someone also mentioned it’s time for Rachele to shine (comparing him to the extraordinary earlier 5 picks in 2021) and should play permanently forward and kick 40. Someone mentioned winning first 4 also

All bullish. Surprised we are still not favoured to make finals with betting agencies (10th fave but flag odds have come in from 34 to 21)

I hope so. It's a new year, he's had a good preseason.

Surely they can't give him the 2024 treatment again. Though I do conceed his body didn't appear to be right last year.

In fairness last year seemed about right. He had several issues pre season. This year just start him, try him in a couple of different roles until you find where he does the most damage

So the remaining questions are:
  • Milera in without any games in the 2nds?
  • fear that Draper won't get a debut?
  • Curtin not exploding in the pre-season game means he somehow isn't in line for a best 22 spot?
  • Nankervis one of our best performers every time he is asked a question, still not locked in?
At least we are not discussing how Smith or Murphy push out the 22.

1970crow squad above looks pretty decent ... as many have said, just swap out Milera for Nank and it's tick - tick - tick.

Laird. Murray. Max
Hinge. Keane. Worrell
Cumming. Soligo. Sholl
ROB. Dawson. Rankine
ANB. Tex. Keays
Rachele. TT. Fog
Nankervis. Crouch. Peatling. Curtin
Draper (sub)
Bond for Laird. We need someone that can lock down on a dangerous small forward rather than an unaccountable stat-padder.

It's good and we will win easily this week but I think pace will be the issue against teams like the Hawks and GWS .

I can see Hinge potentially dropping out of the back 7 just to allow for a better mix. Who knows though.there will probably be injuriea

Can the usual suspects just pump the brakes ln the "Nicks doesn't play new draftees early" drama.

Rd 1 2020 - Pick 6 Fisher McAsey debuts at home.
Rd 1 2021 - Pick 28 Sam Berry, Pick 38 James Rowe debut at home.
Rd 1 2022 - Pick 5 Josh Rachele, Pick 36 Jake Soligo debut at home.
Rd 1 2023 - Pick 17 Mad Max debuts away.
Rd 1 2024 - Pick 8 - 197cm Daniel Curtin doesn't debut.

6 round 1 debutants in 5 opening games is a pretty good track record.

Do you even math?

Just for everyone reading out there, it's not the Leigh M (atthews) you wanted to hear from.

Our team is so heavily structured in their units - defenders, midfielders, forwards.

Little silos working with their line coach.

All clubs are like this to a degree of course but I reckon we really buy in

A unicorn like Curtin is without a home.

Silos are definitely back in vogue in corporate idiot land right now too, so it checks out

Having watched the GWS Collingwood game, speed looks like a big commodity.

Ignore St Kilda's form against Port, GWS proved it means nothing.

Hopefully this is the game where we realise that Crouch and Laird aren't going to cut it for much longer after seeing how slow and ineffective 45M blind kicks to nobody and backward handballs to guys under pressure are.

We should have enough to win with St Kilda's injuries (and they play awful, awful football here).

Draper HAS to play, Curtin should be the sub for his versatility. I'd like to see Pedlar play well but know we have...Murphy ready to go.

We simply have to start the season 3-0 against teams that we should be beating.
Laird is past it and virtually useless now, But there's still a spot for Crouch, he's a ball winning Maschine with quick hands and gets the ball going our way. He at the very least gives us midfield depth and has been very good since coming back last year.

Milera still has to get through two training sessions and run through the banner

Chances are he'll break down at some point
Yeah such a shame that, Milera on potential is in our best team every week.

I just know things will be going bad if we see Berry, Murphy, Smith or Jones back in the team. Ya can chuck Laird in with that Lott too.

Finally, selection Thursday - muted excitement for the extended team.

Tomorrow arvo when the final team is announced will be the big test.

Draper, Curtin, Milera, Nank, Laird - how will the chips fall?

Dumb thing to say about Sid. Worry about your own place.
Its what the club message is

They knew he was being interviewed and knew a Draper question would come up

I mean, Tex had a different message the day before, who the **** knows. Main training isn’t until today anyway, this seems like mostly pointless speculation until that happens.

I think he will be sub, just my gut feeling.
