Lets just brand this for what it is. The worst loss this century, against a team of kids. Not only did we lose, we shat ourselves against them and made it look like they were men and we were boys. Our use of the ball was appalling in the second half, so much so that it looked like we broke out the balls for training about a week ago. Teams like Richmond and Hawthorn see their weaknesses and act for the future. We sit there and pin all our hopes on a list that is just not up to it. The coach is not up to it either. FFS we could have had Adam Kingsley but we got sucked into the Voss name. I'm going to cop so much shit at work today but after 25 years , i am used to it.

The new coaching game has surpassed Voss and his team...they are now rendered obsolete in all facets by the crap we witnessed last night! From Match committee to recruiting to performance and to coaching....with a loss like that, 2025 should start being a salvage operation...unless Voss is a magician and plucks a fluffy white rabbit out from you know where.......unfortunatley another heartbreaking year in toe, buckle up peeps it's going to be a long and miserable Winter!

Must have been a tough day at the office but it’s only round 1

Also, what the hell was up with us slipping all game? I've never seen anything like it before.

When you’re on the ground you’re out of the contest … don’t have to chase etc etc.
It’s always been the “safest” place on the ground for weak conditional footballers of which we have many …

I'm not disagreeing with what you said, and this is a genuine question, but given it happens so often, isn't that on the coaches to fix it / inspire better performances?

Maybe, but I'd say it's a 90/10 split. There's only so much the coaches can do to fix situational lapses. The players looked much better in training, they looked much better in the practice match against GWS, they looked much better in the first quarter....and then suddenly they didn't. How does a coach "inspire" players to stop missing targets that they can hit 9 times out of 10 any other day of the week?

My real concern is this isn’t a one off

The way we finished last year was the same. Lack of effort, bombing it long, sides picking us apart and too many mistakes

My fear is nothing has changed
It’s definitely a worrying sign for sure. I’ve mentioned a couple of times my worry is we fall in a hole right before Tasmania come in and I just can’t shake the feeling I’m going to be right unfortunately.

Harry gave zero and he has been on my watch list for years. Drops his head and is weak in so many aspects.

I can only hope that last nights game was our Collingwood vs West Coast from 2022 moment, heavily favoured to win but end up losing. Because if that is just who we are as a team, this will be a very long year.

Is there an actual game plan ???
I don't see it...unless it is the same old "bomb it long and hope" thing all over again.....
We still can't kick out of defence...unless it is "bomb it long and hope" again"...

I know now....the whole game plan is : "bomb it long and hope".......
.... again....

Hoping it was 1st game getting ahead of themselves.
BUT bottom 6 type players are everywhere.
Hewitt
Acres
Evans
Cottrell
Cowan
Cerra
Fogarty
Kemp
There's only so many you can carry in a game

Geez what a way to start the season…we just fell apart with the slightest amount of pressure

Where’s the will to compete, to hunt the footy and the ball carrier?

Absolutely zero forward pressure…Motlop was ultra disappointing and selfish ditto Cotts…Evans…depth at best not best 22

Midfielders looked a million dollars in the first half but got obliterated by plodders who wanted it more.

Richmond Kids showing composure in spades while we had 32 year old slipping and fumbling.

McGovern did not want to face any contact whatsoever….WTF is this kick off the going bullshit and hack kicks that go 40m in air out of defence.

Forward entries in the second half were abysmal….i hope the media goes to town on us as we deserve every single moment
If the MCG had a roof it would have caved in with the amount of times the ball would have hit it!!!

Just bad bad bad

It was a bad sign when Williams toe kicked that goal and carried on so much afterwards... instead of just getting ready for the next centre bounce...

They thought it was all going to be easy...

Like I said...groundhog day again...

We are all just so gutted....at least I won't cop it so much in Qld...
I feel for my fellow members down there who will be laughed at all week...

Chin up my friends...

Starting to think Owies was kicking goals despite of the game plan rather than because of it. Always positioned & created his own space. The arrogance to trade him away in the hope the others would start to show us something.

We don’t have a single small forward who understands the craft.

Haynes is a shadow of the player he was 3 years ago. His recruitment has unbalanced the defensive structure.

Cripps in the ruck makes me angry. What a stupid move exhausting our best midfielder.

Cerra and Walsh are bog average players at the moment

The team that put in the most effort and didn’t panic under pressure won the game simples.

By The Way Harry McKay - one of the worst forwards in history - how does he keep getting a game ??

Starting to think he’s just not that good.

All the physical attributes in the world, but lacks footy IQ, aggression and still battles with the mental side of things.

It’s a shame.

Motlop is not going to be what we hoped he would be....

I understand now why people want some good crumbing forwards....

I thought we had enough but I now realise that ours are rubbish....

Unless Fanta can be our saviour...and that's asking a lot from someone who is constantly injured...

We are doomed......

Wish people would stop saying Match Day. He's just a poor coach full stop. He doesn't train fundamentals. Says there's not enough time. Then we see no skill in game and wonder why. Like hitting targets is just supposed to happen? We see Harry still unable to kick - fix it.

Get the ****ing fundamentals right. I screamed it all last season. Shocking shocking shocking coach.
Next week Mitchell (who.i rate as the smartest coach in the comp) will go to the dunny during the game, that will bamboozle the f*** out of vossy.

Nah. Players falling over left, right and centre, dropping uncontested marks, fumbling ground balls, missing easy targets by hand and foot, missing tackles - players who have all shown they can execute, just last night they didn't. That's on the players, 100%. They weren't switched on, or they were and then they switched off, and once the rot set in the panic spread. Cripps was about the only one-touch player on the night - the only one who walks the talk when it comes to standards.

Have said it before and will say it again - no coach is directing their players to ignore a lead and just dump the kick as far as possible. And even if in some bizarro world they are, no player who has made the top grade should be listening to that direction.
Well said. It's shared responsibility

Coaches will need to take responsibility for many aspects, such as structure, rotations or starting positions, etc

Players missing easy marks, targets, tackles or a lack of intent has nothing to do with coaching

We were completely disconnected as a team

Yes my thoughts too...

Voss must have really not liked him to get rid of him...

He loved positioning himself, especially when Charlie had the ball
