I know they're expected to bounce back this year, but it's looking like 2022 was their one shot at a flag. Very similar to the Connolly era where they had one shot at a flag in 2006 which was followed by mediocrity.

What little semblance we have of a game plan under JLo goes to water under pressure.
This extra handball around contest and refusal to kick incisive 45 degree inboard kicks goes against the trend of better teams and it shows.
The lack of clean ball handlers (Serong and Young aside) in the midfield is a big problem when you base your game on handball spread.

It’s really frustrating as a fan, some of the pieces are there, but not all - and when we’re bad, we’re really bad

It didn't help that 2 out of 3 A graders in the centre square in Young & Darcy were out leaving only Serong there, but I am 57 & am resigned to not seeing a Freo flag in my lifetime

Yeah. It was a bad day at the office. Add Bolton, Darcy and Young to any team and it'll look a lot better.

On the plus side, if JL does go, they'll have their pick of coaches with the squad they have.

2022 was a year we did better than expected but we then lost 4 experienced players at the trade table. With all our outs this week, we were the least experienced team on the weekend.

We have plenty of time to have a proper run at it over the next 5 years and losing to Geelong in Geelong in round 1 is definitely not panic stations.

2014 was the year for Freo.
To be honest they never seam to get many chances and slip in the window for a year and thats it.
2014 was the year.
Likeing what they are doing in 2025.
Kind of like Optus and they benifitted to the move from Subi more then west coast has.
Mixed bag of a club.
I call them the jack in the box depends on if they spring out or not thats the case.

West Coast won a flag in 2018, same year Optus first opened.

West Coast sucking at the moment has nothing to do with the move from Subi

Won't win one under JLo, but we fielded the most inexperienced team of any club in R1 - this squad hasn't even begun to peak yet, let alone blown its 'one shot'.

Just need a proper coach to lead them.

They should've worn their home strip in the 2013 grand final. They had all the neutral support, there was so much purple in the stands and everyone bar hawks fans were willing them to win.
Loser mentality really, I knew we'd win when they rocked up in that white kit.

The GF would have been even worse of a bloodbath, tbh.

Nah, 2013 was their chance. Stage fright. And having Ross as a coach doesn't send you into the match with an attacking mindset. In the four grand finals he's coached, his teams have gone in at half time with just a single goal in two of them.

Hawks had a great run - people forget they were mild underdogs in '13 to '15. But 2013 was as much about Freo losing it as anything.

But 2022? Don't make me laugh.

We weren’t allowed to wear our home kit. Hawks were the higher ranked team so had the choice & the AFL though poo brown & purple clash.

Not true, you were allowed to wear the top of your choosing
Our home kit consisted of a predominately purple jumper and purple shorts.

Wasn't really surprised they fell away after 2022, given the experienced role players they lost

They have plenty of young talent coming through as a core

Only one game, but looked like Longmuir over compensated a very defensive style and maybe took it too far the other way

I think he will find a better balance and they will achieve greater consistency as the year goes on

They are on the rise, this year or next
