It wasn’t a mark……… because he got bloody tackled and dragged to the ground. Literally to the ground.

How hard is it to adjudicate that?

What was the Suns defender supposed to do? Just let Rankine mark it uncontested? He was trying to stop him from marking it.

Neale Bullen lost that for the Crows. Had the ball with enough time to get a kick inside 50. Instead tried to draw a high free by collapsing his legs for no reason and got caught htb.

Crows fans should be livid at that passage.
Indeed. Wrong colored gurnsey for that type of thing. No point trying

Tackling in a marking contest? Sure no worries.
As an ex-FB, these type of comments bewilder me. You mean a spoil attempt? The defender is allowed to make a play on the ball. If Rankine took that in his hands as opposed to on his chest, the Crows win.

Tackling someone in a marking contest is an illegal move
Robbie Gray in literally every contest in his career. Lets talk about Walkers failure in the dying moments.

Or the game saving smother

What was the Suns defender supposed to do? Just stand there and let him mark it uncontested?

So when you don’t think you can impact a marking contest just tackle the opposition to the ground

Either rankin was in possession of the football and it’s a mark. Or he wasn’t and he tackled to the ground in a marking contest.

It’s not even debatable.

It was a free.

The biggest problem is that the umpires put the whistle away for 2 Crows marks/frees but were happy to blow it for the Suns.

Whatever way you look at it that was an absurdity and the AFL would be loving it. Gold Coast get the win, established club gets an honourable loss and all they have to do is apologise midweek
But also, the Crows had an opportunity in the end to win/draw it, but their forward decides to chip it into the contested pocket, instead of having a shot, that was such a poor decision when the team is behind and there's barely any time left. It would only be ideal if the player was uncontested.
