Harry McKay + Jacob Weitering are expected to play on Sunday

Sam Docherty won't play despite being named in the squad

Surely Duncan comes back in this week. He’s experienced, a good ball user (practice games don’t count) and our best replacement for Miers. He’s also versatile. If there’s concern that’s he’s lost his pace have him as a sub.

I'm pretty sure the VFL is more than simply "practice" games...

I could understand if we bought him in against Melbourne a month ago, but maybe being 1-2 scared us a little from making that call - we could at least try to cover for him on a ground like KP

But watching his last 2 VFL games live, I don't see how he pushes into the senior 22/23 based on what he's shown in the VFL, and especially not at the MCG. While we still get the order glimpse of the player Duncan was for 290 odd games, those moments are being outnumbered by the moments that shows father time catches up with the best of them

I'd also argue that the player be currently is, really doesn't offer as much versatility as he did say 5 years ago. He's really been played as a halfback flanker that will push up the ground at times, but he's slow on transition back to defence, gets caught with the ball as his reactions and decisions slow etc - from the extended bench he'd be close to the worse Miers replacement as he really is the opposite type of player

Barring injury, the MC will do what they can to get him to 300, but that may take until the second half of the season

Hmm if Knevitt is out as well as Miers i would be tempted to debut both Wiltshire and Stevens.

I would leave Clark in the 2s till he has had at least 2-4 more games as a pure mid.
Let him build some form in the one position.

You might get your wish - still only at the squad stage, but we've updated to withdraw Knevitt with George added to the extended bench

We had 6 picks in the 2023 ND, 4 of them from pick 36 onwards and 2 of them in the last 4 selected

On Sunday afternoon we'll likely have 4 of those selections which includes 2 of the last 4 taken in the draft, running out in the seniors alongside each other for the first time

The work of Mackie, Wells and our recruitment team can't be understated in helping to keep us in a position of contending year on year

Henry with the good buff and polish to Scotty's car this week. Not form he's getting selected on.
He may well be doing what he's been asked to do, not what looks pleasing to our eyes.
Until we lose a game directly related to his form, to his direct opponent, OH should not be the focus of so much attention.

Someone posted yesterday about the day he went nuts as sub for Collingwood. I remember that, give us some of that action!

He's done the same for us as sub before - could be bit of a shake up for him to have to sit there and watch at least half a match, but then have an opportunity to unleash when he comes on

Clohesy surely doesn't play tomorrow and is the carry over emergency.

VFL is Sunday morning prior to the AFL

Do we want him was the carry over where there's another week of no to minimal playing or would he be better for 3/4s to a full match in the VFL?

Think we have made our preference clear. At his age ..we need to be pushing games into him ..especially as he has shown signs of him now becoming a contributor. Still only April so there is time for Duncan when the grounds soften… the only nervous component is him getting injured at the wrong time.

For a single role player OHenry needs to find a way to contribute when things are not going well for him or develop the ability to play multiple roles

Three ins and no Duncan means he's clearly a backup player only. He will get his 4 games to get to 300 (probably against wce and Richmond x2 and one other) but that's basically it. Clearly he's going to stay in the vfl apart from that
Agree on Henry, he is a great sharpshooter but he needs to contribute in other ways.
