Simple question - What players from other teams can you not help but love and what players just rub you up the wrong way?

For me -

Can't help but love - Toby Green
I appreciate that this guy is controversial and plays on the edge but I can't help but admire his passion and the way he plays on the edge. He's an outright star too. I'd love to have him on the Richmond List.

Can't help but loath -Brayden Maynard
Its probably the exact reason why Collingwood supporters love the bloke but his attitude and agro give me the sh.ites. He has such a punchable head too.
 
Can't help but love - Cripps
I can't stand the Blues normally (though atm, while they're struggling back up the ladder, they are a good watch) but I've always admired Cripps. Bull at the ball who drags his team to the line regardless of who hes facing. Just seems like a decent bloke. Just shame about the colours he wears.

Can't help but loath - Petrica
Just all about him and his 'brand.' When he just plays he's a star but as soon as he opens his mouth, his arrogance and self entitlement just pours out. If he could become more a team first players along with Olver, they would win another flag. Waste of talent and leadership potential.

I like both blokes you said + Sicily the most in the entire league for literally the same reason you don’t like Maynard 😆

I don’t loathe anyone except hacks who clog up our list.

I have every strong suspicion that is just internal leaking from the club when he wanted out, straight into the pens of willing mouthpieces like Barrett. Bet your bottom dollar it wasn't actually a factor, it's just a bit of shitty PR fed to friendly journos.

For mine... Steele Sidebottom. For a Collingwood player, he genuinely seems to be a decent bloke with no hair, a ****en hilarious name, and isn't a twat. Good work Steele.

Don’t particularly ‘hate’ anyone. Watson is a bit of a twit for appropriating one of the most well known nicknames of all time.

Have always really liked Jamie Elliott, agree with the Sidebottom call.

Obviously not playing anymore but liked Jack Riewoldt when he was playing even though he was fun to hang shit on.

Bontempelli and Liberatore I love watching and both play the way I would want to play if I was a footballer.
 
Steven May looks like he'd be a flog of the highest order.

The Wizard from Hawthorn gives me the shits but Murphy Reid thinks he's alright so I'll give him a pass.

Always liked Jamie Elliott. No nonsense, doesn’t carry on and does his job most weeks.

Bailey Smith is just an out and out flog.

Gawn - great shout.

Seems a ripping bloke, and doesn’t matter what garbage is going on with his club on or off field he just fronts up every week and does his job amazingly and you can tell it guts him when they play poorly. During the game against us when Danger put the afterburners on and it started to slip away from them there was a shot of Max in the bench and I thought he was about to cry because there was just no more he could do
 
Love any player who reminds me of Cyril: Kosi, Shai, Ryan, Rankine, Bobby Hill

Hate tends to be reserved for players involved in racism/homophobia. Tex, Finlayson, and that little dh from the Gold Coast.

Jeez, there is a lot of 'hate' here for Nick Watson.
The kid is just in his 2nd year of AFL football ffs.

If you hate him for the nickname, blame Cal Toomey. Watson didn't pick it himself.

If you hate him for drawing high tackles, then maybe just have a think about how often he gets to the ball first and draws the contact from men 30cm taller and 30kg heavier than he is. You might not like the Selwood action, but gee the kid is tough.
If you hate him for the goal celebrations, I get it, but players from every club celebrate goals. Get with the times.

For me, you've gotta love the blokes that lead from the front - Bont, Gawn, Cripps types.

Personally, I find it hard to 'hate' people I don't really know. But Balta is definitely up there.

To me the poster boy for a hawthorn team that is awfully happy with themselves after winning a solitary final. Too much hype.
