We need Worpel next year.... Yes we won, but besides the Mids that are playing, we unfortunately don't have much midfield depth..
Worpel is a easily upgraded on Bruhn

I do agree we need that type of player (and I would prefer worpel to oliver) so long as we don't have to trade for him. Of they match I would walk.

I want Reid to be playing for us in 26
Not sure we have enough to get him in 26 west cost will hold him to contract, they really don't have a choice if he chooses Geelong end of 26 balls more in our court. If we don't have Rowell or Butters on lock then roll the dice on the kid, we had a long run of success and could extend it if he lives up to the hype. 3 picks that end up in the 20s for Reid probably to good to pass up, we do our best work late anyway.

This is a really interesting read on Oliver, even though info coming from McLure, claims Oliver is still pissed about not getting to us. He would be seeing what Bailey is doing with us and thinking it should also be him i reckon. His actual numbers this year are pretty good, 27 possessions, 7 clearances and 5 tackles per game.

You really think that?

We've lost a lot of very good to GOAT players in the past few years and have still managed to contend deep into finals while bringing in young players who look likely from a mix of backgrounds.

The rebuild has already been happening for some years, and it doesn't look to me like failing.
7 players tonight on less than 30 games. 11 on less than 100

It's a solid foundation

God no.

I'm not exagerrating when I say Smith has been 10x as influential as Oliver this season. He has every attribute Oliver lacks.

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in the numbers. He's the definition of liability on field.

Gotta look deeper than the stat sheet here I think, hurt factor is near enough to zero and he doesn't defend, think theres options cheaper that are better.

Smith the difference again last night. Can’t get over how valuable he has been. Not posting to say, “I told you so.” Just super happy as a fan.

Also, didn’t watch the Eagles game because of the time slot clash but this is why Geelong are chasing him hard this year.

He has checked out. We keep talking about him being in contract but with how he’s playing and carrying on and all the negativity, if he comes and says he wants to leave, which I’m predicting will be leaked that he will after the bye… will they want to force him to stay a year? Honestly, what is the point if there’s no hope of convincing him to stay?

It’s a crazy situation. And can’t help but think the Yeo injury is hurting them so badly, he was the only player who could take the load off for him a little bit.

Port are really struggling this year. Outside of Butters they look like a mess. Still think 2026 FA and I’m confident if it comes to it we will be ahead of Bulldogs in spite of what Jay Clark is saying - albeit he is saying we are in the race - I just believe we lead it.

But man, what a win last night. And the talk about the umpires is laughable. Lyon and David King in particular embarrassed himself badly tonight going after them. Of all the games and all incidences he chooses to isolate an incident that was objectively a trip. Anyway, happy days at least until next weekend.

I should further add, without watching the game, I can’t say for certain on Reid’s performance. But my mate who is a West Coast fan and a good eye for football genuinely believes Reid isn’t best 22 at the moment. This is startling to me. And if it continues and festers and they have to make a decisions whether they drop him or not, it makes you wonder what move they’ll make with it. Or if he will become “managed”. Again, my point is, with how bad it is already, how can this possibly drag on through 2026?

Harsh call, he’s 20 and copping run with players most weeks (Viney last night I read), awfully difficult task in a poor team. Next to no chance of succeeding. Wherever he ends up the Eagles fans are not going to be happy with his career trajectory I’m tipping (hope it is us😁).

Could we have gotten Smith AND Oliver last year? Clearly the aim was Smith and we are currently seeing why, but a midfield of Smith, Holmes and Oliver with Mannagh/Atkins/Bowes would be ridiculous this year.
Not 2025 Clayton Oliver. 2021 Oliver, sure. But there isn't an airport big enough for that baggage.

And look, Baz Smith... it's like adding salt to a dish. A decent helping makes it taste vastly better - but a bit at a time, let the group adjust, see where you sit. He's a unique and fairly large personality - we don't need to throw Oliver into that too.
